    Glare from dials

Like I said proper geezer.. scratch the surface and the answers come.. I’ll be careful and mask it all off and a quick blast only just like I did spraying motors for a living.. many moons ago. shiny ain’t it and only metal polished it once in 3 years and 6000 mls of all seasons driving .. secret to that is canuba wax if anyone is interested (yawn) a friend that works on non military aircraft said just keep it clean and use the best wax you can afford that’s what we do to keep those holiday jets nice and shiny at all altitudes ...I settled on canuba type wax.. expensive but worth it. Glare from dials

    * stridey could be the winner.. tried it on a piece of glass and bingo it looks ok ..sorry Jonathan I did look at your hair products but they are far too expensive from the non reflective film price (which could still be in the running).. do love those simple fixes. what made you think of that stridey?

    Glare from dials

Thanks for that but I’m totally bald now.. but I know someone that has someone that has some.. I knew the text would bring the clever sods out.. much easier than chopping up a perfectly good iPad screen ..I’ll give it a try*thumbs_up_thumb*

    Glare from dials

Thanks Jonathan I’ve ordered a Matt iPad screen protector to chop up ..£2 off eBay..constructive answers like yours are what’s needed no matter how silly the question seems for some members.. non constructive replies could be off putting for someone new posting to the L7 club for advice.

    Glare from dials

Was a serious question.. but Thought it probably would be a butt of a joke for someone
  10. When the suns lower in the sky and behind when driving occasionally I get serious glare off my speedometer and tachometer dials ..anybody experienced this? Or has anyone got a reasonable solution Without messing up the dash to much?... wasn’t going to put this on but it was so bad a few days ago I had to cover my dials (not a good idea). P.s and I had sun glasses in case anyone was wondering.

  15. Hi anybody know a good replacement for the Bosch FR8 LDC plugs please on my VX 8 Valve 1.8 my Bosch ones are available from Italy or Germany through eBay but huge delivery charge putting me off... having a little difficulty sourcing uk supplier on them. thanks john
  16. Probably a frame bush the way you’re describing it ..awful lot cheaper than a diff .. bin through loads of bushes myself.. they are cheap but an upgrade to polyurethane is the rite way to go.. if it is the bushes then I’d sack your mechanic..he should have spotted that.. hope he’s not your mate.. sorry p.s the bushes are easy to replace and available from redline.. if you are buying the rubber ones treat yourself to a couple of sets.
  17. does anybody know what the acceptable cylinder compression PSI on a vx sohc 8 valve Caterham engine should be? ive got 170/175 on all cylinders..throttles wide open! which sounds good to me but like to hear from somebody that knows. was thinking of a top end overhaul for the winter project but not sure it needs it now. john
  18. Who says these engines should run on on fully synthetic oil?? Thus my comment about owners changing grades ..as an ex motor engineer I can never remember putting fully synth in what is basically a cavalier motor..the build manual calls for comma urolite.which is a part synthetic oil.. stick with the expert advice on oil and I’m sure the baffle might last longer.. obviously competition driving will take its toll on most engines and its parts..but I’m interested in why some owners drastically change grades when the cars are NOT used for track. probably the shape of the sump ..vx sump is quite shallow in comparison so on tight corners at speed the oil pick up pipe isn’t in the oil like ford xflows .. baffle stops it sloshing about a bit.
  19. I had an annoying oil leak around the sump on my 8 valve 1.8 VX.. and read loads of horror stories about not keeping up with baffle changes.. to my surprise the baffle was spot on after 15 years or so..was almost tempted to refit.. but for £40 or 50 quid from redline at the time decided to change it as the sump was off anyway.. I do believe some people mess around changing grades of oil which could affect the life of the foam?..I run my engine on a semi synthetic 10/40 grade and change every 2500 mls. and am more than happy to continue.. I did read one owner recommended changing baffles every 6 months.. totally bonkers!!. a good tip is keeping any eye on your oil pressure as well as the speedo..if the pressure has unexpectedly dropped then investigate.
  20. Got them on mine and found 20 psi was best ( super sprint live axel)
  21. Got a Newton neck if you need another? Lost my cap once and bought the whole thing so neck wasn’t used.
  22. Post 7/8 is interesting..just had a carb rebuild..the problem wasn’t there before
  23. Changed plug with cylinder No 2 that was running but no change and the No 1 worked fine in No 2 cylinder so that should eliminate the faulty plug test
