Brightonuk
I posted this on Pistonheads as well as it is my nut under the car Looking for something to lift the car enough so I can actually get under it Will this support the front end of a superlite with a Zetec it states 750lbs max weight https://www.harborfreight.com/750-lbs-heavy-duty-atvmower-high-lift-jack-63298.html Looks like a good idea in my head but not if the car drops on said head Heavy duty hydraulic pump lifts up to 750 lbs. to a max height of 23 in. Five position wheel width adjustment 30 in. to 56 in. wide
Jonathan Kay
How high do you want to get the sump off the ground?Rear wheels on the ground or on stands? Is there enough clearance between the wheel pockets and the handle for the front of the Seven?Jonathan
aerobod - near CYYC
I would say you are right at the limits of the device from a capcity and stability perspective. Also, if your car has a wide track suspension it will be about 1.53m (60") wide or about 1.46m (57") with the narrow track, the max wheel adjustment is to 56".I use one of these: https://www.harborfreight.com/6000-lb-capacity-scissor-lift-91315.html but it does require some adaption and use of ramps made out of two layers of 2x10 planks that will raise the car enough to get ground clearance to drive over the lift. This unit though can get in the way for some underside access, but the only viable alternative seems to be a 2 or 4-post lift.
Brightonuk
Mine does not have wide track and the width is OK The difference is not just $219 + another 20% off coupon making it an inviting $175 vs $1500 but the and the head room in the garage and the WAF the latter being the most important. This just seemed a good idea to lift the car as much as I needed over the traditional low profile jack and stands
rj
750lbs max weight? Is this the front axle load or?In the build maual from the K-era max weght for a complete car is 860kgs which I think is some 1900lbs.
Brightonuk
Well look like my evil plan worked seems stable and has locks to prevent the cradle from falling if the hydraulics fail.So I feel kinda safe but will stick a couple of jacks under just in case. Room directly under the engine is obstructed but a bit of modification to the jack should fix that. The jack weighs in at 100lbs but once assembled moves around fineThis makes getting under the car a breeze and for 200 bucks works for me
revilla
Having seen the pictures, I'm really not sure what advantage you are getting from this over the traditional low entry jack and axle stands? It looks to me to provide about the same height whilst putting large amounts of metal right where I might want to lie to get at most of the things I might want to access from underneath. In addition by supporting the weight in the wheels it obviously prclecludes any work on the wheels or suspension. With my Arcan trolley jack and a pair of sturdy axle stands I can have the front end (or with another pair of axle stands, both ends) up in the air in two minutes with full and free access to pretty much everything unserneath. Only two small-footprint obstructions mean that I can come in from multiple angles. Engine, gearbox, floor pans, steering and suspension all accessible and available to work on.How much garage space does it take up when not in use? bjw
Why not just remove the crossbar / wheel wells and lift the chassis on the 'H' frame ?Cheers
Brightonuk
The hight is deceiving I can raise it up to 2' if needed,. as for access to the engine bay is is obstructed but a small modification to the jack will solve that issue. The footprint is the width of the car but slide out the crossbeam (retained by a Pin) and it is not much bigger than a floor jack. Bricol
Certainly wouldn't be going under a Habor Freight lifting device without some secondary supports! I do like their prices, but the quality variation between the different factories they buy stuff from is massive.I daren't read their weekly sale email now I'm back in the UK ;-)
elie boone
For extra security one can use a piece of U that goes on the hydraulic piston as they do with air jacks on a race car.
A7 OOH
I have installed a low entry full rise scissor lift (Automotech AS -7430H) which allows a max lift of 1950 mm and gives walk through under the car. When not is use I just drive on the lift and park up.If I knew how I could post pictures of the car on the lift-If you live near to West Cumbria (Silloth) more than happy to show around.
