mhsalem Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 So I'm looking at replacing my standard steering wheel on my 1700 super with a quick release option. I do really fancy a wooden steering wheel which would be more in keeping with the aesthetics of my car but Moto Lita only do a 12" size in wood. Will this be too big?I know the original 7's had a larger steering wheel and if removable getting in and out won't be a problem. I would appreciate any thoughsthanks
Wrightpayne Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 I use a 290 momo which is perfect for me. 12" would only be 1/4" bigger each side.Ian
elie boone Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Call Moto-Lita they may do a 10" for you if you ask nicely, they are extremely helpfull.
Stridey Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Fwiw I had a Momo 270mm on mine which I then put on a larger Moto Lita 'classic' leather rim wheel. I found the steering weight better with the larger Moto Lita.I, too, hanker after the wooden look, so d be interested what they say and if you go ahead how it feels.
Area Representative gileshudson Posted September 13, 2017 Area Representative Posted September 13, 2017 "... I do really fancy a wooden steering wheel which would be more in keeping with the aesthetics of my car" Do you have a wooden dash then? Piccies?
mhsalem Posted September 13, 2017 Author Posted September 13, 2017 No a standard black dash but am considering having it all reupholstered in red a la classic Lotus 7. The wheel is a hopefully cheaper first step. I will call them tomorrow and let everyone know what they say.

Wrightpayne Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Not looked at the Motalita range but be aware they may have a larger PCD for fixing to the boss than the quick release hub. You might need an adaptor.Ian
Stridey Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I was lucky enough to buy a red dash from Caterham via ebay. Knocked it back colour wise to match the faded red seats with a Gliptone leather colour match, just sent them a swatch from beneath a seat.
Paul 160 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I like the switch labels you've got. Did they come with the new dashboard or somewhere else?Paul
Stridey Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 The tag style Ines are listed on eBay as Landrover switch labels. The fan overide switch now says 'ejector seat' just to alarm any passengers. Other labels I used dymo tape for a race car look. I do have an extra light between the speedo and revcounter which is a light to tell me when the fan is on. https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/282436637201
Paul 160 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Thanks. These will look a lot better than the stickers I've currently got.Paul.
Derek Batty Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Like the idea of fan override switch do you use it much derek
Stridey Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Derek, I use it if I anticipate stationary traffic or city driving (and if I remember). Example yesterday on M25 backup. It gives you a little more ’margin’ though touch wood my 7 seems to be able to cope, what with new rad, larger fan and 74 degree thermostat all added over the last 3 years...I do have it wired to a yellow light which is just above my indicator light. This lights wether fan has switched on automatically or override. This gives me the reassurance the fan is functional. Also nice to see light/fan go off after a few miles of free flowing air. Proves everything is in balance, at least for now.
