Noise in rear differential or left hand drive shaft

When the car changes down from fourth to third to accelerate away the car has a chattering or clonk before it pulls away any ideas? Limited slip with plates fitted

Have you checked the simple things first? Have a look at the A frame bush and the suspension bushes generally

Also check dedion tube (if you have one) as the early ones are known to fail. The lower shock mount peels off the tube.

I currently have a chat running titled "Limited Slip Diff backlash/slack" that you may find useful.

Mine occurs in any gear when accelerating after overun or taking your foot of the accelerator quickly, maybe check this out.

Sorry i have not got to the bottom of my problem yet and there has been plenty of history of this with BMW LSDs.

Noises in a 7 are tricky to pin down, mainly because they get transmitted so freely by the chassis and panels.

It's worth checking that your gearbox isn't touching the adjacent chassis rails,as torque reaction when accelerating could cause this.

Btw, are we talking about the 1996K mentioned here?
