10uptobase
Hi Servicing the 7 and can't find my gearbox oil I bought from Caterham when building the car. Suspect that I binned it! Need to dash to Halfords when they open as mot in the morning. Correct spec for a 2007 sigma roadsport with standard 5 speed box anyone??? Thanks! Mankee
Comma SX75W/90. It comes in GL4 and GL5. I think it's the GL4 version needed for Type 9s.
DJ.
Definitely GL4 not 5 for type 9 gearbox. Original oil was ep80 mineral oil, but Caterham will have given you Comma as Mankee said
10uptobase
Thanks for the feedback. I may have found oil I bought a couple of years back from caterham as was running low. Invoice says GL4 75W80 -2003. But the oil is Comma EP75W-80 mineral. No mention of GL4 or Ford application's. Just rover Peugeot citron and Renault to not sure if it's the same one... 7 wonders of the world
or better still drain what's in an refill with 1.2L (not to level plug as these vary) of Redline MTL oil
Wrightpayne
I think mtl is discouraged in the 5 speed. I have an SPC rebuilt 6 speed initially with MTL but have moved back to Comma. From a functionality perspective on a sample size of one I do not see any advantage of MTL. The gear change characteristics, which are the selling point, are negligible between redline and comma. CharlesElliott
Road and race recommend MTL. Or 75W-90 GL4.
ScottR400D
I recently changed for MTL and I am thinking the change is a little better. Seems not so baulky when cold and lighter/less notchy to change when hot. Not a lot but I'm happy there is an improvement.
7 wonders of the world
As does Steve @ SPC - the level is the crucial thing though as some casing were designed for transit and the plug is much higher and holds circa 1.9L which chanels and overheats in a 7.From my experience I used Comma, Castrol and NTL the later gave a much crisper shift,
