Tigger
Now that I'm considering a re-build my thoughts flit between up-grade bits. I'm clear on some of the items when when it comes to suspension there seems to be a plethora of options.Adjustable and non-adjustable coil-overs. Spax, Nitron, Avo, Bilsteins..... But what's the difference! I was hoping there might have been a guide somewhere on the new website but haven't come across anything yet.I currently have Non-adjustable Bilsteins which have been there for quite a while. Of course an option would be to keep what I have but then what's the fun in that!Useful info..... I will be using the car primarily for track days and a bit of road driving.Tim

SM25T
So ... word perfect on Winnie the Pooh ... but no idea on suspension. Did you stumble into the right forum ?
DJ.
Sounds like Tiggers need dampers too The non-adjustable Bilsteins have the advantage that you are getting all the experience Caterham have in setting up Sevens.Other options may have the potential to be "better" but are unlikely to be such a good all round compromise, and will need to be set up by someone who really knows what they are doing. Mankee
I used fixed rate (aka non-adjustable) Bilsteins on my track car, for the simple reason that, if I were to have adjustable dampers, it'd be another thing for me to bugger up. Adjustable platforms are very useful for setting up the cornerweights though. Just remember that a car set up primarily for track might drive like a bag of spanners on bumpy public roads. ccconn
Put Nitrons on mine from billies and have to say difference is amazing, compliant over bumps but composed elsewhere. Best upgrade ive done
oldbutnotslow
mmmmm How long do you have as this is not something that you can deal with in 5 mins?OK some questions on your current setup but firstly what is your budget? What is your car DD or live axle? how old is the car? what power level do you have? what tyres are you planning to run and on what sized rims? You say that you are going to do lots of TD's. Are you planning to make this a TD wepon only and trailer it to the track or are you planning to still be able to drive the car on the road? how experienced a track driver are you? what spring rates do you have front and reer? which front ARB are you running Do you have a rear arb and if so how is it set?Give us an idea about this and we can then stsrt to make some informed comments. Tigger
Thanks OBNSSome answers What is your car DD or live axle? - DD how old is the car? -1995 ( but see below) what power level do you have? - 160 at the mo but probably upgrade to 180 in the future what tyres are you planning to run and on what sized rims? - 13" currently on 888's You say that you are going to do lots of TD's. Are you planning to make this a TD wepon only and trailer it to the track or are you planning to still be able to drive the car on the road? - Most likely to have it more of a track day tool, I trailer the car to tracks at the moment. The occasional foray on the roads when I can be bothered to tax the car! how experienced a track driver are you? - 10 TD's pa for the last 10 years....... So reasonable experience but I haven't advanced into car set up territory yet, the car I bought was already pretty good for my level of skill when I acquired it. what spring rates do you have front and reer? - I'm currently running that car as bought 7 years ago but couldn't tell you spring rates. Standard springs with Caterham Billy's which front ARB are you running - will be advised. see below Do you have a rear arb and if so how is it set? - will be advised, see belowThe suspension upgrade would be part of the over all car re-build and would be minded to upgrade the chassis to accommodate a more modern spec of suspension. I would also be guided by any suggestions on ARB's.Although primarily interested in what suspension would be suitable I would also be interested in the technical aspect of why one set-up over another. Simon.Rogers
I don't charge for advice or info - it's free. I also quite often advise no change.Thats what happened to the last thread with Tom - I suggested he fitted Bilsteins for now. i know Tom will call when he needs to in the future.
