Rover 1.6 new build - not starting/cranking [Update - now started]

I'm in th eprocess of a 1.6 K-Series build and am trying to start the engine for the first time.

I've checked the battery and it is charged, but no immobiliser light flashes on dashboard. Checked voltage across immobilser fuse and ecu fuse, but there is nothing showing. The URL here has some pictures of wires which may be the cause of the problem.

Any ideas as to what may be causing the problem? Is it to do with these wires, or something else obvious I'm missing?

The top one looks like a ground to me. Where does it come from?

Wires under the dash look a bit like the horn wires.

You have the ECU power (purple wire) connected to the brown wire in the loom I assume?

If the large black cable is the one I think it is, it's a earth I connected mine to the top of bell housing. If it is earth it would explain the reason for not being able to crank the engine. The wires under the dash could be for the heated screen. 🤔

Hi Graydon

The first picture shows the thick negative wire which should go to the negative terminal on the battery, the last connector shown is redundant and if I remember correctly the dangling wires are also left to dangle!

Welcome to see them on mine in Marldon if you like

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for advice and offers to see cars...much appreciated.

Got it started yesterday. It turned out to be something obvious - I hadn't fitted the correct power cable to the ECU (not going to get very far without that!).

Thanks again.
