How noisey is the standard K exhaust?

Hello

 

I'm thinking of attending the Club Lotus day at Castle Combe if there are any places left. I have a 1.8 Superlight fitted with the standard short primaries merging inside the body and silencer with built in cat. Will this pass the noise test (98 dB limit I think)?

Maybe not. In 1996 I was there in my standard 1.4 K SS with the same pattern exhaust/silencer & I was pulled in for failing the driveby.

Combe is 100dB at 4500 rpm.

 

Don't know about the short primary setup, but the 4:1 plus competition can from Caterham all come in around 93 - 98 dB on our track days at Combe. Depends on condition of the silencer of course. Wherabouts are you? I've got a noise meter you could have a go with.

If you are near Bristol - go to the track, they will test for you (call first though to make sure something is on).

 

For a short while only - the Silverstone grid girls here (and a few nice cars!)

Worth checking. My old standard short primary setup crept up to 99.9 dB

before I replaced it. That was a 1.6K SS, ~18,000 miles, ~10 trackdays.

A 1.6 SS with the short primaries, cat and side exit made 97db and the silencer has already done about 12 trackdays.

At Cadwell recently for the Lotus Seven Club day, my 1.6SS standard zorst with cat was 99dB @ 4250rpm . 10000 miles old. Try and keep to 4000rpm if u can on test.
