  1. Just fitted Mutley's replacement sump... having dinged it in July before I went to the Arctic... all done and dusted and oiled up... but not started due to leaving car keys on mainland... anything I should do b4 firing up - bearing in mind it has been oilless (as in drained from sump - not the apollo in July, for that period..... FWIW I replaced baffle, sump, gasket and drained the Apollo today.... and no leakes when refilled - Only filled with 6 L until I run the engine when I will top up. thx in advance. Richard
  2. 😬 By St Mary's hospital heading towards Cowes a coupke of hrs ago... gave u a hoot but clearly that lunch was focusing your attention (or the sun in your eyes!)...
  3. Thanks all - spent 1 hr at ismash Kings rd London (soon to open a Covent Garden Branch)... As Andy says - BRILLIANT.. Aside the broken screen the lcd was punctured - i could have lived with it, but got that repaired too, plus a new overlay screen cover all for less than £100 in 45 minutes... brilliant guys (& girls), great concept taking on Apple in the repair business with the same approach (& I value Apple as they too have been great in assisting in issues for me) I wish them well! R
  4. thanks guys.. will follow up on those ideas / leads... cheers Richard
  5. Thanks Jez... yes have 14 day cool off... just don't want the huge expense of a new version on contract etc... though it may come to that. cheers (also to Ian who BM me and I will respond later Ian!). cheers R
  6. I don't need an upgraded phone... v happy with my 16 GB 3GS... I just went onto a new tarriff plan on friday with no new handset... and guess what... you got it... I stood on my phone and broke the screen yesterday... thankfully the screen had a secondary cover so is still working. So anyone with a 3GS in their kitchen drawer, if its in good / OK condition and you want to sell please BM ASAP! Thanks Richard

  8. On Wednesday... think you were on Queen St...
  9. Guessing that was Alex, heading down Three Gates Road in Northwood about 45b mins ago... was in the Fiat500 that gave you a wave / flash
  10. oh my my last woe... been through this the hard way (M4 in ambietn temp of 25 degrees!) In my view you have some air in the system - my best fix was bleed out and refill... properly so: A/. in principle you are not experienceing anything untowards B/. Ensure your coolant is well bled (k series propblem but not as bad as they say - use min 50/50 and well bled - if you have silicon hoses squeeeze to clear air) C/.Fan swich is planned for 98,,, thats good. There are variants at 95... but as you are is good. D/. EVERYONE HAS ADVISED OVERIDES - BUT THE BEST 2 CATERHAM K TEAMS I KNOW SAY NO... LEAVE AS IS. Callum not sure where you are - but after 2 x k series and 30k miles I experienced huge coolant issues in July thisy ear - sorted after some sensible discussion and cost only a few £. 11. Ruff will BM you... Yes Mav I knew that hence I have a spare new one!
  12. thanks all - engine mounts etc seem ok (I actually managed a track day the day after the hit - with some botching to the sump...) so I assume I haven't missed anything out and should order that lot listed in my initial posting only? Nigel - I reused the gasket last time so may treat the car to a new one! Edited by - rynicolson on 11 Oct 2013 23:19:55
  13. Earlier this year before I disappeared off to the Arctic I had a big meeting with a stone in Mutley - resulting in a leaking sump... my second such experience. Can anyone remind me what I should get for replacement in terms of parts (note sump plug took much of the hit) FWIW it's a 1600 SS engine / wet sumped with appollo): So I buy: New Sump Sump plug & washer Gasket I have a spare foam baffle already Am I missing something? Just before I order... and yes I know that you can in some instances repair bent K series sumps... but I want to put new on.... cheers Richard
  14. Thanks all. New fan switch = working fan. Flushed and refilled coolant (which definately had air locks after sitting for too long as no leakage but I have had to add fluid over the past 36 hrs)... all working well. When I get back from the Arctic I may sort PRRT though as some have said, I don't think it is required... also now with a 30 amp fuse on ECU means if I stall I don't blow it... all in all a successful day. I have to admit, as all my tools are on the IoW I went to Redline. Last time I was there was c.15 years ago! Thanks to John and Mick - what 7 passionate, helpful, educational and hospitable people As they say on trip advisor... highly recommended 😬 Edited by - rynicolson on 17 Jul 2013 23:03:40
  15. So who can I get to do this near SW London in next 72 hrs? 1.6 K Series SL thx richard...
  16. sorry Ian... you clearly know this well... can you elaborate on the PRRT (remote stat) to a numpty! (me) 😬 i.e. who, what, where, (forget when = now!) ... what do I need to do - sounds the trick. thanks richard
  17. Ian... thanks this is interesting news! I ran out of 20 amp fuses so have already "upgraded" and you're right I haven't had the issue since... BUT was about to go back to 20Amp so will leave as is (assuming I can't damage anything more serious?) I AM NOT A SPARKY ! When you say drill a hole in the thermostat - I assume you mean in the header tank expansion tank's cap (which acts as a PRV)? Or am I misssing another thermostat... Anyway thanks - so (not) nice to hear someone else has this issue... though def know fans is u/s... problem is I have a charity track day driver on friday so need to sort ASAP! i won't have this issue next week in the Arctic 😬 Edited by - rynicolson on 16 Jul 2013 00:35:42
  18. I have had the car out for blats for the past 2 days - so have experienced v high ambient temperatures. I have a 1.66 SS engine with radtec alloy rad and silicon hoses. Standard k series starter motor (yes I know there is a great article in this months low flying re "the k series starter click"). On clear roads at + 40 mph, water temp is reading c. 80 degrees. In traffic (Goodwood yesterday and M4 queue today) the temp has risen significantly... once or twice today at plus 100 deg, so I stopped and let it cool, but once I was stuck in slow moving motorway traffic with no hard shoulder 🙆🏻 & the header tank cap valve blew (oil temp was +102 deg C at the time another 🙆🏻 🙆🏻). On a K series this is always a concern due to the wonderful head gasket issue! My fan clearly is not working so need to sort that tomorrow. I don't think (hope) I have done any other damage, came back with more coolant (H2o) & everything at the right level. Question 1... even without fan - running a k series at close to 100 deg - in current temp, say averaging 30 mph is too high... am I missing something? Question 2. When I have had the K series click (Sunday night at the Wandsworth roundabout - great to be middle lane and stalled!), but once since then today - MY ECU fuse has blown.... can someone tell me if the non starting starter / the K series click is affecting the ecu and causing damage - 2 fuses in 36 hrs ??? Thanks as always in advance Richard

  20. Provisionally sold to a club member (he may hate it tomorrow morning when he collects!)... I had some offers from London's finest immigrants (I am not being racist here, where else do you find a chippie, sparkie or plumber) but I do like dealing with someone who seems decent and is a se7ener and I assume I don't need to go to the bank with him to check the quality of his "notes (£)"....

  22. I have the following for sale: 13 x 6" Revolution Wheels (x4) Fitted with AO32R's 185/60R13 80's... the worst has about 1.5-2mm tread against wear marker... though might be conservative - certainly fine for track. I am pretty certain these equate to: R13 6J (ET23) 108 PCD but someone would need to tell me how to check! I swapped these off my Phoenix and fitted a set of Caterham 13" minilites without drama... they come with wheel nuts. They are straight, balanced but not showroom condition (I can e mail photos of each one). They do NOT have centre caps. Located in Battersea LONDON £180 (+ del / GoNADS) Blat mail or call me 07584 250203 Richard Edited by - rynicolson on 21 Jun 2013 09:27:23
