  1. I also had the tramlining experience when going from ZV3's to much more grippy Yoko's. My experience was also quite un-nerving but was simply, and completely cured by getting the tracking accurately set up. I believe i had it set to parallel to 1deg toe out (or was it toe in) others may correct that figure. Memory a bit suspect! Peter
  2. I ignored a similar warning that appeared in Techtalk a year or so ago. Am currently in Spain and as I drove on to the ferry in Portsmouth the plastic tee in the half inch hoses from the header tank to oil filter nacel and rear of engine, suddenly fractured, dumping all the coolant on the car deck. Luckily there was enough of the tee left to reconnect offending hose and by leaving the pressure cap off I was able to drive to a B&Q look-alike in Bilbao and buy a Husqvana irrigation tee. The replacement is better than the original! When back in the uk I will replace again with brass fittings. Be warned the standard plastic tee is a failure waiting to happen Peter
  3. I have a Sigma 150. Suspect the up grade is complicated and expensive but the result is fantastic, great performance with superb soundtrack!
  4. I have fitted the angle bracket described by SM25T. Its simply a thin piece of aluminium about 2inches long folded 90deg and pop rivited to the tunnel. The bit sticking out to form the footrest is about half inch wide. It is positioned so that with the side of the shoe sole on the rest, your foot is just touching the pedal. It works great! Originally I made the foot rest wider but found that when making rapid gear changes it was easy to inadvertantly catch it. My car is an SV and there is just enough room. It might be a probkem on an S3. Peter
  5. MrP. Its not that simple as you need to replace the prop shaft and fit the additional mounting bracket. Caterham will supply the kit, suggest you call parts for a price. Fitting the kit is relaltivly straight forward. Allow a day. Caterham Midlands can fit the kit in about 3 hours! it is quite expensive, but its bliss to be able to drive without thinking about the transmission. peter
  6. The Ford Sierra diff was ok, but the version of this diff built by Quaife and used by Caterham as standard equipment for several years was as I described above. (i was not referring to the LSD version) My 2010 Roadsport 150 had two Quaife diffs from new and both were complete rubbish. Some say that if they are properly rebuilt they are ok and I have no reason to disagree with that view. However, the BMW diff is a proper solution and is the current standard Caterham fitment. peter
  7. If you go far enough back in this forum, ie about 3-4 years you will find loads of info on this. If your car has a Quaife diff, then that will be the root of the problem. Many were noisy, clunky and with loads of backlash making the car difficult and annoying to drive. Caterham eventualy started fitting the BMW diff and drive train and that transformed the cars from hard core racers to sophisticated tourers. I changed mine from Quaife to BMW, if I hadnt done that, I would not be a Caterham owner now! Suggest you study the history. peter
  8. On the qustion of enough fuel or not, when you switch the ignition on, you should hear the fuel pump (which is in the fuel tank) run for about a second. If it does that and stops you have enough fuel. Otherwise you need more fuel. I cant remember how much fuel I put in at first start up, but it was a considerable amount, and it wouldnt start until I had been very generous! peter
  9. Toe out definitely causes the car to follow lines and undulations and can make it difficult to drive in the twisty lane situation. I've resolved this problem by adjusting to parallel or slight toe in. As far as bumpy ride is concerned, It was interesting to speak to the experts at Caterham Technology when we visited there earlier this year. They spend weeks finding the best spring rates and dampers for road going sevens only for us owners to spend good money mucking up their good work. In my opinion and for a normal blatting seven, you will find it hard to beat standard springs, dampers and roll bar rubbers. This set up rides really bad roads really well. This may seem like anti-upgradeitis BUT it works. Peter

    Kangeroo-ing

Take it to Caterham Midlands for a re-map Peter
  11. I have two spare tickets for each of Friday and Saturday. Anyone interested at say £20 each? Peter
  12. IanB can I take them please. Will blat mail Peter
  13. I also have a 150,andt touch wood it runs perfectly. 16500 miles. Two things ooccur to me. Have you had the latest map applied? Caterham Midlands remapped mine about 3 years ago with what I think was the 4th version. There are less pops and bangs, but it still sounds great with no flat spots and great peformance. The second thought is that your lamda sensor might be failing. They do that! Its an easy, relatively simple fix. If the running/idling gets worth suggest you fit a new one. Peter
  14. The stat should close at 82deg. If not, its bu££ered and should be replaced otherwise you will be suffering over-cooling which results in excessive wear , condensation, sludge and general 🙆🏻's. A stat is cheap and a new one will keep your engine nice and cosy. Peter
  15. FOR SALE *NOW SOLD * IPad1 with 32gb, WiFi and cellular. 16. Mark & Steve, Thanks very much for two great solutions. I new blatchat would have the answer. Peter
  17. Has anyone fitted usb charging points for their camera. Am planning to fit a double outlet flush fit, hard wired, fused (panel) USB between the seats in the boot/cockpit wall. I will then be able to have the gopro and its piggy back wifi module on constant charge. Would be interested in you experiences and components used. Ta Peter
  18. Don't actually need one at the moment ( touch wood) but wouldn't mind parting with £50? Peter
  19. The contents are partly oil mist but mainly water or more accurately condensate that forms as the engine heats up, then cools down. In the good old days this gunk was simply expelled from the crankcase breather on to the road. On cars that did lots of short journeys condensate often took the form of a white gunge on the inside of the rocker (cam) cover. The quantity b/supersport describes as being collected is normal. Peter
  20. When I built my car 2010, I decided I didn't like the look of the exhaust guard, so left if off. As Ian suggests, I polished the can instead. It looks nice If you really must have a guard ☹️ mine is still in the garage (somewhere) and could be used to spoil the appearance of your car for say £20 plus postage. Forgive the hard sell. 😶‍🌫️ Peter
  21. Under the soft cover over the transmission tunnel just behind the handbrake. Once you have the volume right no need to touch. Peter
  22. Hi Andrew, Others have experimented with various oils in an attempt to cure the horrible noises that come from some quaife (Sierra) diffs. Like me, you are very fortunate to have a BMW (open?)diff which will perform perfectly with EP90 and will give you a smooth quiet ride such that you will never think about the diff. Happy days Peter
  23. Why not just disconnect it? Please dont encourage dangerous mods. The inertia switch is there to cut of fuel supply in case of an accident and therefore prevent a fire. Peter
  24. Do you know if an SV with 8in rears fits. Some say that the later version of the Minnomax are wide enough? Peter
