  1. It's important to have the correct oil filter some have pressure relief valves in the filter talk to Paul Dunnell again he is the man and don't use the 0-40w it's too thin do talk to Paul he does know zetec's paul

  3. Ground clearance on zetec powered cars this seams to have caused a few people some concern I am part way through building a zetec powered car the standard sump has a square lump hanging down which if left as standard reduces the ground clearance to approximately 65mm far too risky for my liking the choices for a low line/raised/increased ground clearance sump is from W*******d’s Paul Dunnell or Race Line as I know of at the moment there must be others. There is a bit of difference in price but that’s up to the individual I personally have a Paul Dunnell one and it looks very good it is exchange though so you need the one off you engine or an other one as is W*******d’s. The Paul Dunnell sump gives a ground clearance of 23mm below the chassis rail so a major off would be needed to do any damage to the sump, it is baffled for oil surge and rebated where the starter motor fits, also Paul Dunnell modifies the oil pick up pipe to suit. The lowest point now on my car is the bell housing and the tube brace under the gearbox down the tunnel I hope this will help clear up any questions on this matter. I don’t recommend learning the hard way i.e. No oil no engine or braking the thermostat housing and boiling the engine after grounding the sump hard enough to damage it. Paul. paul
  4. Paul In all the experiences of tin tops with this problem [the cars goes straight on only with say 5 degrees of lock one way or the other is this is the same as you are experiencing?] then you need to go to a tyre company or garage that shows an interest/intelligence of the job in hand which would be to put the steering wheel at straight ahead position then adjust the tracking so the car goes straight ahead and then go up and down the road to check before paying it helps to keep their attention. paul

  7. Hello Julians I agree with Rob the stud extractors I have used at work in engineering have been worse than useless and have caused more work you do not say what the bolt is stuck in. If it is in something removable from the car do so and drill it out in an engineers pillar/table drill first using a centre drill then a drill that will remove most of the old bolt then you may find the thread will collapse and come away with the drill bit. If the bolt head is assessable and tapped into aluminium try warming up the aluminium up with boiling water at fist then try turning the bolt as the aluminium will expand a little faster then the steel bolt don’t use a flame type heat unless you know what you are doing [the fire brigade No. 999 ] To try and loosen the bolt you can try hitting the head with a good quality pin punch this will stretch the bolt a little and my then loose it grip and then you may again be able to remove it if it is in something solid you can hit it quite hard not hit you thumb I spent 4 hours waiting in A+E after I trapped my thumb in the lorry compound gate luckily on pay before they just drilled a little hole and let the black blood out what relief If you want you can E-mail a photo to me and I will help you more if needed also Iam in Grimsby and also help if you get stuck if Iam nearer to you I go back to work New years day so specialist equipment is had to come by until then. Hope it turns out ok no pun intended Paul Tel 01472 590325 paul

  9. Hi Have a look at the way the ECU is installed into the car and if not already on a military/aircraft quality quick release plug and socket you could adapt it so it was, then just remove the ECU from the car then a removable momo steering wheel and the thief now needs a trailer/car transporter. Paul. paul
  10. Hi I have a rivet nut tool and a selection of rivet nuts if you need then Iam in Grimsby or the postman can deliver them. You will need to drill out the old one if it will not recrimp tight, drilling it out may be harder than said as if it turns freely as you drill it will then spin with the drill so you will then need to put a piece of stud or long bolt into the rivet nut and knock it into the box section [iam assuming that the rivet nut is in the box section] then try and remove it or leave it in the box section a blob of silicone will stop it rattling and then fit new rivet nut with appropriate tool. E-mail me if you need any more info/help. paul
  11. A local engine tuning company told me the best way was to use ordinary oil to run in with then flush the engine through and replace with the expensive synthetic oil as the synthetic oil is so expensive and not needed for the first few 1000 miles as you use reduced loads and revs etc and warm the engine through. He also suggested changing the mineral oil after 500 miles then again at 1000 miles and check the condition of the oil i.e. still golden brown /no grit etc. B.P. do an oil survey/examination service for predicting failures etc on the ammonia compressors at work so may do the same for engines all they need is an oil sample [100ml.] but its not cheap if anyone wants more details I will ask my manager for the contact at B.P. paul
