  1. Thats great, thanks, I have a map for a similar motor from SBD which has the setting at 33*, I will count teeth on the flywheel to try to make sense of it but i assume the angle is the offset of the tooth prior to the last missing one BTDC ?
  2. Its a 1998 1.6 ss K with a new 9A4 mbe ecu...
  3. Thanks guys, very greatful, the current mbe doesn't have a fine and coarse, just a single number so I shall try it tomorrow, I actually tried 110* and the backfire stalled the starter !
  4. Hi Does anyone know what value the "Crank Sensor Position Offset" should be set to in a MBE ecu on a 1.6SS K series engine ? It is currently set to 33 degrees but doesn't want to start and will only briefly catch on the starter. Many Thanks
  5. I am also part developing a Zetec SE (Sigma) engine rally car at present that we decided to go Emerald, every week they told us the ECU would be with us next week, that went on for about 6 weeks, when it did arrive it was apparent that half the functions offered on the new unit were in fact not implemented and would follow as an update some time in the future, not very useful when we wanted some of them ! We pressed on and had several probs, initially being advertised with USB but only coming with ancient serial interface, we are using the PWM output (as per IACV would) but spent hours trying to make it work in numerous configs and failed. Eventually Karl suggested returning it for test, I'm sure he was thinking I was a 'nonce' but after they tested they had to admit there is a config prob with the new units causing erratic behaviour of the PWM settings, there is also a problem that you can allocate a user output to more than one function causing completely unstable behaviour, when we mentioned this to KArl he said they new about that too but didn't have a fix at present. We have the unit back with apparently functioning PWM signals and the car sort of runs but the base map they supplied which should have been ok wasn't, Steve Greenald is setting it up next month but the car have been out competing by now and luckily it's not a customers car as it would appear very amateur to a them. Anybody contemplating the new Emerald unit would be best advised to wait until they have it working correctly
  6. I am partway thro' a MBE and throttle body conversion and can't recommend Steve Broughton (SBD Motorsport) enough for supplying MBE expertise and hardware, he can even supply aerospec bespoke looms. Worlds apart from my experience of using and getting (poor) support for Emerald in the past.
  7. *wavey*About 1530, hi from the white and blue aero racecar
  8. Many thanks for that Stuart
  9. I have decided to sell my 'classic' french super saloon to free up some space and cash, add can be seen at http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1707903.htm (Sorry don't know how to do linkies , if anyone feels kind enough to sort that then thanks
  10. Hi That was me, we displayed the 7 Roadsport A and the TR7 V8 Forest rally car at Bearwood Colledge yesterday. I met the chap bringing the TR at the pub at Arborfield Cross, the lanes from Swallowfield to Aborfield X have some great corners for sidewaysness I found ! It was a cracking day for aeroscreening, shame we spent most of the day parked up really, glad you made full use of the sun tho
  11. There are 2 ways to undo the bolt, the nasty way is to use a 'windy' wheel nut gun as the repetitive shock will wizz it out, the better way is to make a 'pawl' type lever from a bit of steel strip and some spacers and bolt it to one of the bell housing bolt holes with the point engaded in the ring gear
  12. I changed the belt and tensioner and fitted and timed vernier pullies to my ex Roadsport A 1.6 K racecar at Xmas, parts came from PTP and setting values from Oily. Compared to working on the rally car it was very easy to do, took 3 hours and has made a very obvious improvement, K series belts really are a simple diy job, I have also changed Sigma ones and they are much more fidly. Go on do it yourself, you know you want to !

  15. Thanks for that It is very difficult to find them in such condition with only a couple of owners on the logbook.
  16. Hi I currently have a 1988 205 Gti 1.6 in virtually concourse original condition, I am currently looking for a tow car as I have bought a Caterham for competing at speed events this year so will be looking to sell the 205 soon as I don't have the garage space for it so I was wondering if anyone here may be interested in buying it. It was bought new by a couple in 1988 and was bought from them by a friend of mine who did nothing with it for a year except having the paintwork refreshed and leave it in the garage, before I purchased it off him. It's in stunning condition both inside and out and has a large history file with all (absolutely 100% complete) invoices. all MOT's and history including the original bill of sale and a letter from the first owner detailing everything, all handbooks are present and it still has the original Phillips radio. I spent time going from end to end and replacing anything mechanical that was tired or worn, the list is huge and includes, spring, dampers, bushes and mounts, driveshafts, tyres, exhaust, wheel bearings, drums, shoes, cylinders, hoses and lines, discs and pads, vacuum advance unit and hose, radiator, link pipe, ALL fluids….the list goes on and all to the OE specification. It is so good I have been using it for commuting and has covered 10K trouble free fun miles with me and returns 38mpg on my daily 70 mile round trip. It has just turned 100K miles and uses no oil or water between services whatsoever. Absolutely everything is as it should be and works as new, the only negative point is the drivers seat bolster has gone 'flat'. It has MOT 'till May and 11 months tax. Offers around £2000 Can send pics by mail to any interested parties 01256 782774 Gavin Johnson
  17. Just approaching the M3 J4a on / off slip roundabout from the Minley Road this morning
  18. If you mean the sort of Triangulated arrangement that makes the mirror quite high up then it's the current EU4 regulation arrangement that all new 7's have to have, I know 'cos I asked Dom at CC whilst I was there last weekend. The exhaust also has to be under the car with a box across the rear (the R300 I was looking at had twin pipes from the box)
  19. I have decided I would like to spend much more time on track next year and have decided to sell my 'road' R400 to fund a much more (cheaper) track focused 7. Late 2002, Labrador green with silver nose band and stripe, weather gear, heater, leather seats. harnesses and inertias, tonneu, 6 speed, LSD, dry sump, big brakes, QR wheel, Cat r/barrels, MBE, Bilsteins, adjustable rear ARB, carbon sill and arch guards, Caterham large repackable 421 exhaust (no cat), aces shift lights, CR500's, looks and drives 100%. 3 previous owners and I bought it from CC, Stamped service record, invoices including all original factory order documents and spec. Just had 12k service and given fully clean bill of health at CC (£835) including extras such as new silicone hoses and HT leads . I can send pics to any interested parties, I'm near Basingstoke and may be open to px (in my favour) for Academy, Roadsport A car or similar. Offers around £18k 01256 782774
