  1. im using the std ford housing and pipe layout, i don't think I need to drill it, what's the reason?
  2. I reckon that must be it actually, all the symptoms fit. Given the layup it's not too surprising. Slightly amazed though that I've avoided hgf (hopes) but it runs fine
  3. Oily, Is the easi sync is this item? here Great info chaps, Simon I'll pm you, I should probably say hi in any case
  4. Looks good but do they actually work? MBE's SBD site says to avoid them, "We would recommend that you only use a laptop/computer with a serial port which is fitted as standard when using our mapping leads or professional mapping kits, since you are likely to experience problems when using a USB to serial convertor." here I'll be only too pleased if they do, esp given the price Edited by - millsn on 4 May 2012 22:52:27
  5. What do people do these days for this. My old serial port pc is now dead, is ebay my only option?
  6. Thanks to all for the suggestions: Jobs for tomorrow I'll be measuring the temp of the water return I'll also be testing the sender using water from the kettle, Imight even tryrunning a seperate earth from the battery to the sender to see if that has a settling influence. I'm also hoping I can get my crusty old laptop out of its fug and running easimap again (fingers crossed) Let you know how it goes
  7. is it fouling all plugs or only no.4?
  8. I take it the HT leads are new/okay Have you changed/swapped//modified anything at all recently?
  9. how does it actually run?
  10. Is the whole cooling system warming up? - How quickly does it heat up from cold? maybe 6 mins (too fast to be real I think) - Is it the genuine Ford sender with the Caerbont gauge? its a vdo and its a XF sender but no probs until I started it after a 2 yr layup - I know it has to be an earthing issue somewhere - does it smell very hot? no
  11. on balancing I suspect you can only balance each pair of rollers relative to the other pair - have you looked up the barrels bores?
  12. just a thought but is no.4 short on air versus the rest? I/.e. if you look down the barrels are all rollers open the same amount relative to each other? It may be nothing to do with the amount of fuel being dispensed
  13. he does still write monthly in practical performance car
  14. The fan seems to be out to lunch. Pretty sure the water runs above 80 as designed. I suppose the thing to do to figure it out is drop the sensor into boiling water suitably connected. Edited by - millsn on 4 May 2012 18:44:29
  15. might have one at work somewhere. good thought, slightly embarrassed I didn't consider it myself. Ta
  16. My water temp gauge is now reading high. It seems to take until the engine is warned before it gets too hot (120) but I would anticipate HGF at those temps so suspect the readings. My laptop has given up the ghost so I can't just ask the ecu for confirmation. Temp readings for the gauge are coming from the plastic Ford Manifold and original temp sensor with one wire. Any experience with a similar issue? I reckon the gauge is just over-reading but why?
  17. I originally bought my lsd ford oil from ford. I don't believe it's an issue if you have the right part number, am I wrong?
  18. you will make me very sentimental if you do. I always wondered what mine would have been like upgraded in the same way, very nearly went there too
  19. Mine uses the Ford LS oil and is quiet too
  20. you can get them for around £43, I wouldn't bother with the refurb
  21. With neither of these things operating will I pass the mot? Edited by - millsn on 23 Apr 2012 19:41:22
  22. I'll bet those speed bumps in burwell are fun at 120 mph
  23. I find K&Ns are quieter than 'socks', you could try that as it's simple and you may already have them. Other than that you need an airbox but I can't find one off the shelf to suit (although I haven't tried enormously hard).
