  1. Quoting Stationary M25 Traveller: No sealant .... just the gasket. Make sure no dirt on surfaces. Dress any scratches on metal parts. What do you do to dress scratches?
  2. I did a full oil change including dropping the sump and installing a new foam baffle (yes I realise you may flame me for putting the foam in but the old one was fully intact and I felt more comfortable renewing it rather than doing the gasket mod). The sump gasket seemed in good condition so I re-used it as many people have suggested. Everything was put back together and I did an initial run up to check for leaks of which there were none apparent. A few days following my first spirited drive after the oil change I noticed oil on the floor of my garage which appears to be coming from the back end of the engine so I am presuming that there is an issue with the sump seal in this area. I fully cleaned the sump pan and engine mating surfaces before putting everything back together but now have this leak! I guess the only option is to drop the oil and take the sump off again and order a new gasket because no doubt this gasket has an issue? Thanks, Oli
  3. I used Gulf competition 5w40 ester synthetic (usually quite expensive but it was on offer). I have an ally plate under the front end of my ex race car which guards the under side of the apollo so I bought myself a cheap 2 litre volume suction pump/can off ebay to suck the residual oil out of the apollo from the top. I had about 1.5 litres in the apollo after dropping the majority of the oil from the sump plug.

    Trailer

The older regular Minnos that they don't make any more (not the current generation Minno Max) are available second hand as twin axle braked with a 1380kg gross weight and a 1.65m wide bed. The Clubman 100-0120 is ok in terms of weight however it's only single axle. They do a Clubman 100-0200 which is twin axle with a 1380kg gross which would be fine but my budget won't stretch to a new trailer (close to £1500 inc VAT on a bog standard no frills one). There are a few Minnos/Clubmans for sale second hand at the moment but a bit too far away from me. James, yes I may look in to down plating a heavier one. I've got an event in 2 weeks so need to sort one by then other wise I'll try and hire one. Cheers, Oli Edited by - Jetto on 10 Apr 2011 15:24:24

    Trailer

I'm in need of a trailer however I have some specific requirements. Due to me passing my test after the towing "free for all" cut off date I'm limited to what I can tow and with what. I won't bore you with the Dvla rules and calculations. I have calculated that I need a trailer with an absolute maximum gross weight of 1400kg and a carrying capacity good enough to take my Roadsport Caterham. It needs to be twin axle and braked in good condition with working electrics etc. Wheel rack would be nice too. A Brian James Minno would be ideal (particularly one with a folding tow pole so it can fit in my single garage). I don't have a limitless budget so please bare that in mind. These trailers do come up now and then for £800 to £1000 so this is my range. Thanks, Oli

    Rear Brake Pads

Don't make my mistake of paying through the teeth for them from Caterham:- Rear Pads
  8. Still looking for the pad and timing strut. Thanks, Oli
  9. The blue book states a 1 litre minimum oil catch tank in the hillclimb section. The K Series cam cover breathes back in to the intake which I've read in some peoples view negates the need for a catch tank. However if the blue book says a tank is needed should I go through the hassle of fitting one? Or if not risk having a scrutineer bring me up on it?
  10. Hi, Anyone have a spare of each of the above that I could buy please? Wiper pad as per: Pad Timing strut for use on hillclimbs/sprints. The cap for the washer bottle as I've lost mine!Cap Thanks, Oli

    Rear pads

So the pads Caterham sell for use with 4 pot fronts: Caterham Pads Turn out to be Delphi LP507 part number which can be bought for £13 elsewhere. Good old Caterham mark up! Edited by - Jetto on 12 Mar 2011 12:00:31
  12. Or does anyone know the thread pitch and size so I can source elsewhere?
  13. Ok thanks for that. Do you know the Mintex part number for the matching rear pads for a standard Caterham de dion caliper?
  14. Seems a good price for 1144's if they are: Pads
  15. I can't find these listed on the Caterham online parts shop (they used to be but not on the new site). I need 6 black screws that join the stanchions to the windscreen frame. Anyone have any spare? Thanks, Oli
  16. It's more of a case of I don't know how old the current one is so when I change the oil I'd like a new one so I know where I am in the future
  17. Would this be a viable option for sucking the excess oil out of the Apollo tank that doesn't fully drain from the sump plug?
  18. Anyone got an unwanted new K Series wet sump gasket? Thanks, Oli
  19. What's the difference between a windage plate and a baffle and a sump gasket with a ledge?

    K Series parts

Hi Ian, I'll consider not using the foam and just putting the extra hole in the gasket as others have done, however I want to assess what my current engine has so I'll get a foam baffle just in case and then make a decision. Oli
  22. If you run without a stat (like some race cars do), which gives almost no water temp under normal driving because the coolant is always running through the radiator. Then surely the oil won't heat up sufficiently to cope with going fully hard pace on a track? Or does the oil temperature not rely on water temperature?
