  1. Is there an advantage in having a tiny hole behind the light cluster, rather than a slightly bigger one that would allow the connector through? Seems like unnecessary effort to me (and added weight ). You do want to make sure that you've got the light blocks in the right place though. Jez
  2. Plusgas isn't going to help with nylon bolts! Jez
  3. I have some with no glass which sound like exactly what you need. They're in the shed, where they've been for 4 years so I'm not sure of condition now! Blatmail and I'll send photos later in the week. Jez PS 7" bowls?
  4. Nothing's ever *THAT* easy. The holes on the new wing won't line up and you will have to enlarge the cut out around the radius arm. And at least one of the rivnuts will spin meaning you have to break the bolt. But ultimately it's not that hard. It would be more faff with rusted in steel bolts. Jez
  5. R500 😬 That's one way to solve a seat problem 😶‍🌫️ Jez
  6. Bag seats don't need to look cheap. See this link on DPR's website for an example of one that looks quite smart. They are obviously unadjustable, but in my race car, we have an insert for the bag seat, as Roger talks about, to get the smaller driver into the right place to drive the car. Jez
  7. Just echoing Roger's point, I have a bag seat in my car and although it doesn't look the best (they can be made to look lovely, for a price) it is the most comfortable seat that I've got in any car, as it fits me perfectly. Absolutely everything is supported. You can make your own to check for about £40, but read the canoe story first, for laughs more than anything else. Jez

    CR500s

If they are ex-race tyres and that's the Rod A I think it will be (Hi Rod ) then they'll be 175/55/13. Jez
  9. On a 125bhp car you do not need bigger brakes. You need properly functioning ones. The race MC doesn't require new calipers/discs (unless you want them to look bling) and are more than capable of overcoming even slick tyres. Jez

    Go Pro

The vbox cameras are not brilliant before you disown the GoPro ... Jez
  11. I've just worked out that I get about 600 miles out of a set of AO48s, but that is track only. They probably only do about 200 race miles, with the rest in testing. Fronts wear less than rears, so I do change them over from time to time. Left rear wears the most. Jez
  12. They changed the compound of the CR500s a couple of years ago, and they got cheaper, albeit that the compound in the first year was terrible. I understand that this has been sorted now, but as I don't use these tyres any more, I can't say for certain. You won't get better mileage out of CR500s than A021s though ... Or indeed over AO48s. I've never used R888's. Jez
  13. I'd suspect worn inside pad for squeaking. But I don't have much to add over what's written above. Jez
  14. Quoting Jonathan Kay: Quoting SM25T: Quoting Jonathan Kay: Quoting SM25T: ... or cut a piece off that is just long enough to sit in the socket of the filler plug and also the thickness of a 10mm ratchet spanner ... a bit quicker to operate.Yes, but it's rather important to use the sort of ratchet spanner that has a lever to control the direction of action rather than the type that has to be turned over...Surely if there is room to fit the spanner in the first place, you can withdraw it and turn it round ?The travel of the plug eats the clearance of the hex stub... and just as the oil gushes out because the gearbox was grossly overfilled you realise that it is indeed a ratchet spanner... ;-) Jonathan (and don't call me Shirley) Well, it's hardly a canoe 😬 but it's a good real life example! Don't try and do it with a cut down Allen key. Just get oily. You'll have plenty of time to clean up before you'd have done it with a cut down. Jez
  15. There are 2 sizes. Mine is 10mm. I did as SM25T suggests with the cut down piece. Jez
  16. Alas, no. That drawer is full of stuff nobody will ever want, probably. Jez
  17. Get the springs off an old set of pads. I think the Caterham series are at Rockingham this weekend - the teams will have something, for sure. I had my springs taken off the last set of my pads though, to allow them to move more freely ... Jez
  18. 4th and 5th are basically the same. You won't use 5th until you get to smaller diameter tyres (or more power!). Jez
  19. To be fair to Caterham, I think they went updated master cylinder instead of high effort pedal to achieve the same thing ... Jez
  20. Hmmm. Oops! Presumably rather a different layout in those cars. Jez
  21. If they're already using the MX5 gearbox in this year's Academy, then presumably they've dealt with this as part of the new bell housing. I've not seen a Mazda engine in a Caterham anywhere, although there was a wankel-powered one once that I saw a picture of. Jez
  22. I probably won't be home before 9. Blatmail me your mobile no and I'll give you a shout once I'm home. Jez
  23. Ian I might have one of these. I'll try and look tonight. Jez
  24. 322s are no worse than 500s in the rain, but they're not necessarily better either. What you want is whatever is brand new! If your 500s are at the wear bars (that would be fairly worn in my language) then I would be REALLY CAREFUL at Combe. It is very unforgiving of a mistake in the rain. For racing I always have a brand new set of tyres for the rain. Jez
  25. Real world experience. I have a 1.3kg battery bought from Meteor. It is fine *except* that it can be reluctant to turn the car over after a race session. It will start it, but I would probably go for a slightly bigger one next time. It's fine when the engine is hot under normal conditions. Battery is now 1.5 seasons old. Was allowed to go flat once (not by me) but doesn't seem to have suffered for it. Car is 1.6 Sigma in Supersport spec. Jez
