  13. Triumph 1500 was also FWD (I had one), became RWD then the Dolomite Triumph 1300 was FWD then became RWD as the Toledo I think - had a smaller body than 1500 / Dolomite Really sad but i don't care Thinking about it they may possibly have started as RWD, become FWD and then gone back to RWD. FWD variants possible had the longest gear stick in the history of motoring. Edited by - john hughes on 8 Oct 2002 13:42:48

    Water level

Hi Fanch I've done the same mod and found that it lost water until I replaced the pressure cap on the thermostat housing with a blank cap without the pressure release. I then ran the small "overflow" pipe into the connector on the top / front of the header tank to bleed air back to the tank. The plastic "Rover" cap has a pressure release valve in it, I think at 1.4 bar No problems with water loss or over heating since. John
  15. Most of the Disco's panels are ali, however unlike a "classic" Range Rover the roof is steel - helpful when using a mag mount ariel. The corrosion on the door is due to galvanic action between the steel inner frames and the ali outer skin John
  16. I'm interested in the dry sump pump - could you supply some details - does it fit as a direct replacement for the original pump ? or does it need a new drive belt etc fitting ? John
  17. Had a similar prob myself last night - started to misfire / pop and bang through exhaust on acceleration above about 3500-4000 - thought the worst but luckily it was as simple as the plug lead had popped off No. 3 plug. Hope your prob is as simple !! John

    Sump plug

Second time i've heard this recently - a nameless MAD member had his car serviced by a local Caterham dealer who found the sump plug had been "epoxyed in" said almost new car had only previously been serviced by Caterham approved dealers !!

  20. Toby Where are you based - I have a spare stud if you're desperate. If u remove the brake drum and possibly also the shoes then there should be enough clearance to replace the stud. John
  21. DDB194 - side entry cap from a Leyland Sherpa van Needs slight mod with dremel so spring clips don't slip off john Edited by - John Hughes on 10 Jul 2002 12:05:20
  22. The speedo cable should have a threaded collar on it that screws onto the speedo to hold it in place. This has probably run down the cable towards where it comes through the bulkhead. If you run without the cable conected the centre drive can come out of engagement with the drive from the gearbox - it can be fiddly to get this back and may need the bottom end disconnecting. John
  23. Isn't the oil pickup at the rear end of the sump ? Under braking is all the oil forced to the front of the engine ? Prob more likely with the slope fronted sumps as opposed to those which are step shaped / modified escort or cortina sumps ? john
  24. The black to red voltage in the lead to the dizzy sounds ok that just powers the LED which I believe is infra red so invisible I have previously measured it at about 6v. The blue to black is either off or on and is "switched" by the "chopper" passing through the "beam" this triggers the pulse to the coil to produce a spark regards John
