  1. Not a great help, but my 1800 zetec is running very happily on the 40 DCOEs previously fitted to a 1760 crossflow - mind you, the 3d mapped ignition probably hides any slight miss match. AFAIK carnb jets are standard for 1760. Edited by - allen on 15 Oct 2006 22:15:23
  2. I was not in a 7 (red peugeot 106 actually), you had the hood up and were heading out of St Davids towards the beach. allen
  3. Figures seem about right. Not got a remote filter on mine (1800), I use a very short filter and don't rev till it's warm - i.e. I let it idle for five minutes then trundle up the road without exceeding 2500 rpm and wait till oil is warm Then it's full beans 😬 allen Edited by - allen on 26 Sep 2006 20:02:29

Wanted, pair of seat runners allen
  9. Is it a silver or a black top? I'm using invormation that was current when I did my conversion a few years ago. Believe you need a new sump, you need to replace the waterpump (if silver top)with the 1800 sort. Water rail, hoses and alternator mounting - you can possably utilise the crossflow alternator, fitting a zetec pully to it and sourcing a suitable size belt. You'll need lightned flywheel and suitable clutch (and spiggot bearaing and CRB). Engine bolts up to the gearbox without an adaptor. Also required; exhaust primaries, engine mountings, hotter cams? ARP rod end bolts (so it can be reved harder), your existing carbs (or injection) and suitable ECU, throttle pot and loom. Also required is the coil pack - should come with the engine and starter motor. Best job I've done and so different (and better) than the xflow) allen
  10. Not much help - I used parts from James Whiting - but he doesn't do the conversion any more. I believe primaries are available from caterham 🤔, as I believe are engine mounts. Suggest you speak to Ammo, 01394 383499 / 07860 494064, a search will reveal he has much knowlege on the subject. allen
  11. Dave, I remember that James W said on my twin 40s - 1800 zetec conversion, that 5 progression holes were too many and one would need to be blocked up - wasn't necessary as carbs turned out to only have 4. Think I's have had the original carbs re-built Good luck allen
  12. Ford english is same stud pattern (PCD) as de deon, not sure about the offset, don't know the difference in width between the english and the ital axle. allen
  13. I've always found acetone good for cleaning disks. allen
  14. I have been told there is a code that permanently by-passes the keypad on citroens I expect there is a something similar for the 406? allen
  15. This sounds like an unusual one (I've an 1800 zetec myself). Nothing to do with the pressure releif valve issues on early engines? 🤔 allen
  16. Hi - Though I guess you're on holiday still yourself. Saw flashing Audi - didn't have time to spot yourself Thougt I'd check to see if i'd been spotted - about 1600 miles over the week's holiday - spotted once - is this the average? Yes, some really good blating weather, lots of terific scenery, had a good week, thanks all 😬 allen Edited by - allen on 10 Jul 2006 22:10:13
  17. Check that the venturi is still firmly in the correct position, I had similar problems and it was caused by one venturi having dropped down. allen
  18. Slight hi-jack, what plugs for Zetec 1800 on Webber Alpha? 🤔 allen
  19. Jonathan is correct, you need to extend the pistons to get at the place they are sticking - but not all the way out at this would be 🙆🏻. You can clean them up using a long strip of clean cloth soaked in meths, get it around the inside of the piston and pull it back and forward, this will clean the bit at the back you cannot see Then work the piston in and out a number of times (wood still in place so they don't pop out) - way well solve the problem. allen
  20. Best to use flue sealer, from any plumbers merchants, it's red and lasts quite well. allen
  21. Yup, going for the 15 amp fuse, don't want it blowing unless it really needs to allen
  22. Julians, afair, the crossflow threaded fitting went straight in (upgraded form one to t'other). Know when I originally fitted it to the crossflow I asked the people at Merlin Motorsport what fitting I needed and they knew instantly (don't have their number to had though). Good luck allen
  23. Can someone tell me what fuse rating is required by the heated screen? Thanks. Allen allen
  24. Did she fill it up? If she only put in say £10 worth and there's plenty of room in the tank, fill to the brim with deisel and i suspect all will be well. A small proportion of petrol os commonly used as an aditive to get smokey deisels through the MOT. Failing that, syphon out as much as possible, re-fill with diesel and off you go with a bit of luck. It is true that the more modern high ressure injection diesels are more difficult. allen
