  3. News from the Historic Sports Car Club Sunday 29 November 2015 HSCC 2016 calendar to start at Castle Combe The Historic Sports Car Club has unveiled its 2016 racing calendar, which will open with a special two-day meeting at Castle Combe (16/17 April). The new event at the Wiltshire track will be a focal point of the club’s 50th anniversary season and will celebrate the very first HSCC race in 1966 when a group of 1950s sports cars contested the inaugural Griffiths Formula race at Castle Combe. The balance of the season includes high-profile events on the Silverstone and Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuits as well as major historic festivals at Croft and Oulton Park. Season highlights include the International Trophy on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit (21/22 May), the Autosport three-hour meeting at Snetterton (4/5 June), the Wolds Trophy meeting at Cadwell Park (18/19 June), the Historic Super Prix on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit (1/2 July), the Croft Nostalgia Festival (6/7 August) and the Oulton Park Gold Cup (27-29 August). One-day events will be held at Brands Hatch Indy (24 September) and the traditional Silverstone Finals (15 October). HSCC members will also have the opportunity to race at Spa-Francorchamps during the Classic Six-Hour meeting (16-18 September). In addition, the HSCC will again be organising the racing element of several key events, including the Donington Historic Festival (30 April-2 May), the Silverstone Classic (29-31 July) and the Walter Hayes Trophy (5/6 November). “We’ve got an excellent calendar for 2016 and I’m particularly pleased to be going to Castle Combe to mark the club’s 50th anniversary,” said HSCC Chief Executive Officer Grahame White. “We’ll announce more details about the Castle Combe event over the coming weeks.” The provisional HSCC calendar is: Sat/Sun 16/17 April Castle Combe (50th Anniversary) Sat/Sun 21/22 May Silverstone GP (International Trophy) Sat/Sun 4/5 June Snetterton (Autosport 3-Hours) Sat/Sun 18/19 June Cadwell Park (Wolds Trophy) Sat/Sun 1/2 July Brands Hatch GP (Historic Super Prix) Sat/Sun 6/7 August Croft (Nostalgia Weekend) Sat-Mon 27-29 August Oulton Park (Gold Cup) Sat 24 September Brands Hatch Indy Sat 15 October Silverstone National (Finals Day) For more details about the HSCC, please visit www.hscc.org.uk -ends- For more information, contact the HSCC on 01327 858400, by fax to 01327 858500 and by e-mail to office@hscc.org.uk For media enquiries, please contact Paul Lawrence on 01952 510382.
  4. A curve is a kurve no matter how you spell it Schnitzel and 'G' force is international. It took me a good few laps (to catch up with a Porsche) but ever so slightly each time I lapped, the diff got a little noisier......I got that Porsche though!
  5. I'm with CaterBram, overfill. I remember Goodwood, looooong right-hander - not good.
  6. Still at Stanstead Abbotts 25 min from Stansted in a S Westerly way......
  7. 15 minutes which way from Stansted? If you are Rogers way you are a very lucky boy, he, more than anyone on the planet is your answer to the Gods on combustion. He also is more than likely to have built it.... Dikko, near Stanstead Abbotts. I've just noticed the date of this thread - presume started by now!!!!
  8. DON'T SEND THEM OFF THROUGH AN ORDINARY OUTLET... You'll get your imperial threads changed into metric ones and suddenly at some vital point your bleed nipples will go pop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beware.
  9. If, as it seems, you need to spend money on expensive brake fluid, you'd best get someone to put it in properly!!!!!!!!!!! try buying a pressure bleeding kit and mind you don't dribble too much out the nipples or it 'll cost you another fortune. You might find your rear pipes go to one wheel then continue to the next and onlu have to bleed one nipple. Fronts equal length maybe?
  10. You can 'top & tail' it without taking the whole engine out. Head and sump off, undo big end bolts and tap each piston out. Replace rings and put better end bolts back. Roger may recommend a quick glaze-bust with a strange looking tough mop thing attached to a drill if the bores look too shiny. Good wash out and it'll be like new. Nobody has mentioned valve-stem wear - might this not be a breathing cause? New fuel pump too (not a cheap one) might not be a bad idea. A lot of piston cooling etc depends on reliable delivery - as I've just found out...
  11. Would you have the time to share your research? Just in case others are in need.
  12. I used to sell uprated starters before they became rare using a man who has run out of the spec of body I asked for....I've passed the info below to others and had successful feedback from some who have bought from the chap mentioned. Hope you get the same treatment. If he has any left himself ; Uprated Starter bodies - giving more power - Lucas 5 M 90 are the ones to go for and I have run out of them and you want them for racing and therefore bombproof you may need a stronger bendix spring to prevent rearward movement on the Bendix. This occurs at high revs/vibration and can be seen as 'Bendix chatter' (obvious in rolling road situations - unless you are seriously leaning out your car watching the sparks..) increasing both Flywheel Starter Ring and Bendix teeth wear. He will most likely renovate yours. I have some standard bodies you can have if desperate/needed. >> >>Classic & Vintage Dynamos Ltd. Unit 7 Shirebrook Business Centre, Vernon >>Court, Vernon Street, >>Shirebrook. Notts. NG20 8SP >>Telephone 01623 747666 He's quite old and I hope he's still going! Last seen one year ago... Dikko.
  13. In the unlikely event this is for a crossflow you could consider a SCAT crank from SkyFord. Stronger & pre-balanced. Neil Bold engines Manchester BTW.
  14. Gosh there are a lot of images...printing now... Ta.
  15. Dammit! You are right! It's a side a side pump, I'll double check tomorrow. You've put my mind at rest... I wonder if I can get adjustable cam timing and put the engine on a dyno? It's meant to have standard parts though... Now to ebay.
  16. I think I've made a small boo boo when building a crossflow... When putting it into dry-sump mode I didn't block the old pick up pipe feed holes to the oil pump and on taking the engine down I have just realised my mistake... What effect would this have had on its (lack of) efficiency? Another question. ...... I want to time the valves in perfectly but only have a cruddy, cracked Kent cams plastic disc. Is there anything better on the market I can buy that anyone recommends?
  17. 3 available in good nick as far as I can tell for a small donation £20? to NtL ring 01920 871153
  18. Interesting guys. There's only one carb by the way 7 wonders, so maybe not that. But the head gasket flow might be worth a look at. On the heating/cooling front I'm using Evans waterless and did wonder if flow may be slower and cause what Roger was saying - a heating at the far end from pump. Evans has the consistency of brake fluid and wonder if flow is effected. Could be just a spark plug and my imagination is running away with me. There is an issue with pinto engines and Evans not being happy partners - I've forgotten what the full problems were - and maybe head/gasket design doesn't suit it on crossflows too... Piston melt was down to the top ring. I stopped none too soon. 1min. 31.3 sec lap - 7 secs off... In the meantime a glazebust and a rebuild is the order of the day. Oh for a bit more room though.
  19. Cross-flow 1600 I presume the answer is 'a lot of things' but is there (according to knowledgeable ones) a familiar cause of no 4 piston eating a plug and starting to melt down? It was a Thruxton a 20 second flat out run to the chicane and initially the engine couldn't pull above 6,000. Timing, fuel...yes to all those and more? PS If Roger comes on can he tell me if 112 degree valve timing is a good thing and does he want a cup of tea at my place?
  20. Sealy looks OK for about £50, I take it's robust enough, anyone with a comment?
  21. Missed a pair not long ago damn it. 8ft ideal.
  22. I have found an issue with the porting of a cross-flow head...it has been done far too well! Opened out to perfection it has too much space for air to gulp through a little single carb and loses air speed - therefore - power at medium revs (4-5K) - and just where I need it the most... Absolutely perfect for twin carbs. Life is full of irony... Anybody know someone who understands and can port a head for a single carb?? Anybody want two superb X-Flow Twin Carb heads? .............
  23. Give us a ring and I'll try to organise pick up. I'm in Herts Will check them for cracks and pay?? £20 to £60 is going price. Cheers, Dikko. 01920 87115three
  24. Ported by Martino Racing who have worked on all of Roger King and SPR heads. Fresh with new springs, colletts etc £550. Dikko 01920 87115three.
