  1. Looking for a good home I have old copies of Low Flying. All in great condition and free for collection. May - Dec 96 97 - 2014 complete Jan 2015 June - Oct 2017 Cheers.
  2. I also remote the oil pressure sender in the same way to a gauge and warning light... When the Valio cooling fan let go only part of it came through the bonnet... another chunk left a BIG dent in one of the lower chassis tubes and a third bit cut the main charge lead from the alternator shorting it to the chassis nearly causing a fire. A good third was left still attached to the alternator causing a big enough out of balance to throw the alternator off its mounts breaking the bolts, removing the drive belt and so the DS pump drive belt... The subsequent oil pressure surge blew the rear crank seal dumping oil all over the clutch The cam belt stayed in place thank god but it was an interesting and expensive day out..... The fan on my Valio was a nasty cheap stamped piece of sheet steel which by lack of design would flex axially subjected to the centrifugal load imposed by constant high RPM use... basically it fatigued, cracked and fell apart.... I took the opportunity to upgrade to nice pretty small alternator...
  3. I have run with an SBD supplied Pace dry sump system on my VX for about 12 years now and and like Paul and Steve above have blocked the bottom of the bell housing and fabricated an under tray (using 3mm Fiberglass sheet) to protect the cam belt etc from debris. When I had my car re-skinned at arch years ago Bruce fitted a number of tabs (actually the ones used to secure the bottom of the nose cone) along the inside or the lower chassis rail so I can retain the under tray using dezus fastners which makes it very easy to remove for access and jacking etc.. As far as the fly wheel and bell housing issue is concerned i have gone a bit further... I run with a 7 1/4" twin plate clutch, as quite possibly do the guys above, but I have mated this to a very light 7 1/4" flywheel. The flywheel diameter is only bigger than that of the clutch by the size of the ring gear. This combo is smaller in radius than the depth of the SBD/Pace sump so has allowed me to remove the bottom of the bell housing flush with the sump which in turn removes the gaping hole and the exposure of the std diameter flywheel. The other bonus is a big improvement in ground clearance.... The only down side to this is the need for a starter motor that will reach the small flywheel and this ain't cheep... but its another solution... Like Paul and Steve I have my alternator on the exhaust side of the engine which allows for greater room for plumbing around the pump. I also use a small high RPM capable alternator after my original Valio unit let go its cooling fan on a trackday causing quite a lot of damage.... Just thought I would add another possible solution to the Vx DS insall problems.... Gary
  4. Have you tried Steve at SBD. May not have a new one but may have something removed from a heaterless engine build... I thought the OEM part was a push fit in the head anyway... Though I could be wrong as I have never removed this pipe as I always run with it plumbed in even though I don't have a heater. Cheers Gary
  5. I have taken 5 sets of wheels to City Powder Coaters (Audi A4, Mondeo, Caterham and Esprit) and, though no repairs were required, the quality of the finished product was excellent. Unbelievable given the price of £20 a wheel (depending on size) and better than a refurbisher local to me who charges 4 times that. I filled the estate with as many sets as would fit to make the trip worthwhile. I can not comment if a big repair or heavy corrosion are an issue but light corrosion/tatty wheels came up a treat Gary
  6. Just for information the RIF dash has a lovely round bottom and big ears... Each to their own I guess.... I'll take some pictures... 😳 Cheers Gary
  7. I have a RIF carbon dash blank in the garage somewhere. If I recall correctly it just has the steering column cut out but nothing else. Will go and find it. Cheers Gary Just re-read your post and you want a PRE CUT dash... Ho hum Edited by - Garibaldi on 7 Sep 2014 10:57:30
  8. I have the original GRP nose from my 94 HPC still in the loft... Been keeping it as a rainy day spare but it is no longer same colour as car so its just gathering dust. Currently Porsche Speed Yellow. Cheers Gary
  9. yes please I would be interested in the footwell if it has not already gone.... I want to make another custom well as I have a dry sump tank and a 6'2" girlfriend so need all the space I can get... Your well would make a good pattern as I threw my original well away years ago... Cheers Gary
  10. If they were ideally the Caterham version with the clutch fork out on drivers side top.... could you find 3 please...??? Cheers Gary
  11. If not already sold I would be interested Cheers Gary
  12. Hi Ian Very interested in Diff.... Is it an Ex Caterham or original Sierra (machined rear cover)..??? I can machine the cover myself so does not matter greatly I guess... How are the crown wheel and pinion for wear..? Can meet up and pay cash as we have in the past. Cheers Gary
  13. I am in Germany at the moment but can try and take some pictures on my return next week... My starter is off at the mo for a service and the induction will get in the way somewhat of a good picture. I used Mocal push on hose and alloy fittings from Think Auto for my plumbing from the pump to the filter head and round to the Pace cover plate on the engine front where the old internal pump cover used to be. Gary
  14. I have a pace DS pump also and have the Mocal filter head plased as Aves has described above..... Gary
  15. Bugger... I seem to be one of the few with semi helical... Ho Hum Cheers Gary
  16. Hi Ian Does it have a gear wheel ground on it in a similar way to the Caterham 6 speeder or the type9...?? If so is it straight cut or semi helical..??? Cheers Gary
  17. Adrian I have a 3 piece suite I was going to try and sell - or just take to the tip! 2 seat sofa with a pair of recliner armchairs in salmon pink I guess you would call it..... I am down in Sussex which may be just too far...?? Cheers Gary
  18. Used an ATB in my 250-280bhp (variation over the time I have had the diff)Vx for 8-9 years and had no problems with it.... Plenty of tail happy fun with trackdays and LOADS of mountain passes....!

    VX Dry Sump ?

Hi I fitted the complete SBD design of dry sump back in 98 and apart from servicing the Pace pump I have had no problems with it. I have used a tall, thin tank in front of a slightly shortened footwell as described already which does not give a massive oil reservoir but, as long as you do not have an excessive oil consumption this has again not been a problem. The SBD pan has proved very robust but does leave the hole/trap in the front of the bell housing but this may be blocked as described above. There are cast veins underneath to direct any impact under the car but if you hit anything big/heavy enough these will probably not save you but then a number of people have sumped their cars on objects over the years dry or wet sumped and this is as much down to luck as anything else.... If you are interested I can take some pics of the install. Cheers Gary Edited by - Garibaldi on 9 Oct 2013 08:30:33
