Today I made the K-Series equivalent of a pilgrimage to see one of the learned men of K-Series tuning 😶🌫️, yes you guessed it I visited DVA.
My Scholar 1.9K has become very "tappy" over the last few thousand miles, so I managed to get a consult from Dave. Luckily he has concluded that it's the shims, so it's not too serious at the moment.
Due to my car being fitted with Piper 1444 cams Dave told me that the gaps should be 10-thou inlet and 12-thou exhaust. Most were a long way off, the following shows the readings Dave took;
Cyl 1 In = 10, Ex = 13
Cyl 2 In = 9, Ex = 15
Cyl 3 In = 13, Ex = 16
Cyl 4 In = 15, Ex = 15
Cyl 5 In = 12, Ex = 15
Cyl 6 In = 12, Ex = 14
Cyl 7 In = 12, Ex = 15
Cyl 8 In = 12, Ex = 15
As you can see most are showings signs of wear, and 2 are a long way out. Dave said these are a concern due to the hammering that the followers are taking, not good for a tuned K
The car in now booked in with Dave for him to replace them all with ones manuafactured to his own spec by a trusted engineering company.
A BIG THANK YOU to Oily for his warm welcome this morning, it was really like meeting a life long friend and he showed me a collection of very interesting parts from his ever growing collection of bits.
Cheers - Andy
