Will probably be in a couple of weeks I expect. I'll let you know nearer the time and maybe we could meet up for lunch or coffee

That'll be telling 😬
I'm working for Tom Higgins on the Building controls system. Currently looking at energy savings through-out the site but concentrating on Building 540 at the mo. I'm there every couple of weeks.

Peter, it appears my 1.6K Supersport has the same syptoms as yours ie smoke when giving it beans. I've done a compression check on mine and all OK (17-18bar).

As per conversation wiv Oily I'm gonna check the breathing side of things first then take it from there.

OK, got another chance 😬

I sent these figures to Oily too. His reply was that the figures were OK.
My only problem now is where is the oil going? My brother reckons it still could be the oil control rings.
One thing I must say tho is that I did do the test with a cold engine and did forget to open the throttle when carrying out the test. I've checked one of the cylinders again this morning with the throttle fully open and i read even higher (around 18 Bar). When I get a chance I'll do the other 3.

Ok, done a compression check and these are the results;
16.5 bar
16 bar
16 bar
17 bar
What do you think to these figures then?

Ordered a compression tester which will hopefully be here tomorrow. If it does show up problems with the pistons/rings etc does the engine have to come out to replace the rings/pistons?

As my engine may have to come out soon I've been thinking of getting rid of the clutch cable and replacing it with a hydraulic type. How easy is it to do on a K series wiv 6sp and what sort of cost is invloved?

I reckon the R888's are about the same really, depending on use. I've had mine on for over a year now and have done around 7K including 2 Cadwells, Croft, Donni and a few sprints

I'm well chuffed with my 888's Now starting on my second set of rears and now need to order a set of fronts.
As Myles states they hold no suprises and fill me with loads of confidence on track.
I'd think you'll have no trouble fitting 50's instread of 45's. We just fitted 195/50/15's to delberts car with no clearence problems.

Had a reply from Oily today. He suggest doing a compression check and leak down test (not sure what a leak down test is tho). Then take it from there. His momey is on the Rings/Bores or pistons.

Jerry, I've been told that it does smoke when under load but not when driving normally.
Myles, I've sent Oily an e-mail

Dave, its a wet sump engine with Apollo tank. I'm checking with the engine running. The dip stick is a plastic yellow one and at one point (after about 1200 miles) the level was about 1 cm from the bottom and the tappets were making a right noise.
