  1. Thanks, folks. Out with the polishing cloths, then!
  2. I got mine from Classic Silicone Hoses, 01530 230971, and used the modified circuit as posted on BC and in LF.
  3. FWIW, having consulted more than one oil research scientist, their recommendations always seem to come down to Gulf, Silkolene or Fuchs. So my K-Series has Gulf Competition 5w-40 (a fully synthetic ester based oil) in it.
  4. Trailered the car today. Given the weather, I put a SBFS shower cap on the car*, but the buffeting has caused the shower cap to scuff the driver's side screen with a million tiny scratches in one smallish area, causing it to look 'milky'. Can anyone recommend any cleaner/polisher that will buff the scratches out and make the side screen clear again? *We did the same thing on the Motorail last year, with no ill effects, so I wasn't expecting damage due to buffeting. Bother.
  5. I bought LED sidelight bulbs off ebay from a firm named something like szautoparts. They're much whiter and brighter than standard tungsten. Being LED they only work one way round ...
  6. No definitive thread, as far as I am aware. However, in my view, although the clear rear lenses look great, they reduce the effectiveness of brake lights and indicators. Some owners have gone back to the original red & amber lenses for that reason. No such problem at the front, where clear indicator lenses seem to work well. As for headlights, fit high output bulbs. If you can stomach it, fit 7" lights. 7" with high output bulbs actually do work well at night.
  7. Alas, dear Superlights. However, for the record, and just in case others have been wondering, I think the following are true: 13" x 6" 4.6kg ET 24mm (offset) 13" x 8" 5.56kg ET 24mm 15" x 6.5" 5.9kg ET 13mm For completeness: 16" x 7" 5-spoke "HPC" 6.7kg ET 19mm Edited by - Q Catcher on 2 May 2014 00:15:34
  8. The location I use is: on the transmission tunnel, forward of the gear lever (i.e. under the dash), to the right of the centre line. I used adhesive-backed velcro (large-ish rectangle of the soft stuff on the transmission tunnel, much smaller piece of the scratchy hook stuff on the PTT button) to attach it. Fitted lying on its side, with the red PTT button on the right and the toggle switch on the left, it works very well. 9. I don't know what make they are. They don't seem to have a name on them, but "Series 603" (or something similar) and "halogen" on the bottom of the glass. They were standard fitment in chrome shells on my 2002 SV. Does that give you enough to go on? I'm happy to take a pair, by the way, if they fit in my headlamp shells.
  10. I'm in need of a 7" glass headlamp lens if anyone has one.
  11. I'd like to bid, please: how does £75 sound?
  12. My 2002 car occasionally creaks when cold, but doesn't once it's hot. If you find out what the cause is, I'd be interested to know.
  13. Thanks for the replies. I couldn't find a Powervamp at short notice, but it's remarkably similar to the Odyssey which I've just ordered from the very helpful people at Tayna Batteries. The model code is PC680MJ (which replaces the Extreme 25, apparently). 680 cold cranking amps and 18Ah, a metal-jacketed gel battery.
  14. The connections are all nicely visible and I'd checked everything; nothing loose or corroded. (The electrolyte levels are correct, too). Nope, I've just taken the big 'un out of the 911, forced it into the Seven and it started it in less than half a second. Can anyone recommend the best battery?
  15. The Seven won't start. It's always been a great starter, apart from the last time the battery suddenly died, which was in 2010. But it's happened again. This evening, the battery registers 10v on the multimeter, despite having been on trickle charge. For some reason, it won't even start on jump leads from the Focus. It turns half a rev or so and "dies". It won't spin over. (Is this a problem with jump leads? I've never tried to jump-start the Seven before. The leads got hot, but my guess is those round-end jaw grips on the croc clips present too small an area on the flat battery posts on the Seven. (Why oh why ..?).) So I'm in the market for a new battery, and it's gotta be one I can get quickly, 'cos I'm supposed to be going across the Channel in the car on Saturday morning. All help appreciated.
  16. Sorry I'm carp at this, but how do I contact you?
  17. I'd like one for a pre-2010 SV, please. You'll have to let me know how to do payment, address ...

    Winter Tyres

I have 16" 5-spokers like you, and I've fitted Vredestein 205 M+S for the winter. Haven't used them on the Seven before, but I've used them on two others (Fiat Coupe and Ford Focus) and they were excellent, as in go-anywhere on snow. We live up a narrow lane and fit winter tyres to most of our family's cars. Even my M3 on winter tyres is better than other locals' 4x4s on summer tyres in the snow. I'll see how the Seven does. 19. Thanks, Johnty, for the hints. I've seen the stuff about wiring and relays, so have already got a spare relay; and my existing solenoid has got a heat shield round it; but I thought it would be a good idea to be fully prepared.
  20. Thanks, Titanium and Tony, for the supplier suggestions.
  21. Well, well. First good evidence I've read of probs with supermarket fuel. I've been using Sainsbury's super unleaded in my tin-top (which demands it) for three years now without a problem.
