  1. Hi After a winter upgrade of some Tillett seats, I need to fit a head restraint behind the seat to the rollbar. I purchased said item from Caterham but I am now perplexed on the fitting of the 2 items that arrived. Apart from nuts () am I missing something here? Could someone send a photo/advice of the fitment? Of course, I may have bought the wrong part even though it clearly states 'for FIA roll bars'... Cheers Jon
  2. Well done Matt - I like the dual video, gives an interesting view on driving styles! Hoping to catch up with everyone at Curbs Jon & Charlotte
  3. Soft Bits for Sevens draft reducer for a SV with leather seats/headrests for sale: https://www.softbitsshop.co.uk/caterham-draft-reducer---series-5--sv-990-p.asp An excellent piece of kit that really makes a difference when driving. The pocket is a decent size plus it has a small mesh pocket on front. It is a few years old but in very good condition. Offers around £95 plus postage. Jon

    Trailer tyres

I took Paul's advice last year and went to a local independent tyre fitter who suggested some reasonably heavy duty van tyres. I cannot remember the make but I could check later in the week if you are interested. Jon
  5. Excellent news - looking forward to seeing you next year (and perhaps testing the success of Tony’s upgrades ) Jon
  6. Hi i sent an email about the E bag jon
  7. Interesting - thanks all. I will give it a try without. Jon
  8. Hi I am interested but subject to knowing if it would fit an SV - any idea? I guess the length of primaries is the key to know if the system will clear the skin. Is there a way of measuring the distance from the sealing face on the primary to the point where they turn through 90 degrees? Cheers Jon
  9. Hi At MOT today, the tester noted some play in one of the droplinks on rear ARB. He suggested replacement. I checked the Caterham site and there are 2 options: 1991 onwards (£19) or metric (£31)! I have a 2003 SV - anyone advise on which option is required? Car is not at home so I cannot easily check. Thanks Jon
  10. I rather rashly agreed to do the London Triathlon with two friends on 5th August this year - while many of you are enjoying Harewood. So, I thought I should try to raise money for a good cause, and Alzheimer’s seemed like a good option. My grandfather had Alzheimer’s in the early 1980’s when little was known about it, and my Aunt currently suffers with it. Alzheimer’s Society provided good practical advice and equipment to enable my Aunt to carry on living independently, and they fund research into its causes and treatment. I’ve never done a full Triathlon and hadn’t quite realised when I said yes, what the distances involved were…. So the swim is 1500m in Victoria Dock , then 40km road cycling to Westminster , followed by a 10km run.. I’m definitely not an athlete, so this will be quite a challenge for me! 'Coach' Jon is also supporting the cause and missing Harewood to urge me along.... The event is now looming up this Sunday, so I’m a bit apprehensive - some support will help keep me going! You can donate to Alzheimer's directly via my fundraising page: https://www.justgiving.com/Charlotte-Johnston6. You can also donate by text if you prefer, text CMJS55 £10 (or £1, £2, £5) to 70070 Any donation is much appreciated, however small or large! Thank you for your support! Charlotte
  11. I looking to upgrade the standard exhaust on my 1.8K SV with longer primaries & 4-2-1 collector etc. In the interest of economy I was looking at keeping the current cat/silencer. I am looking for recommendations on potential manufacturers. In a related post about Exhausts by Design (who do not seem to be around at present), 7 Wonders provided a contact in Wisbech who I followed up. I am looking for any other contacts to get a comparison as the quote was not much different to a whole new system. If that is the way to go then so be it but I am keen to explore other options first. Thanks in advance for any advice Jon
  12. Hi Has anyone had any contact with Exhausts by Design recently? I am looking for a new front end of the system and a few folk recommended this company. I have tried to contact them numerous times over the past few weeks by phone and email with no messages returned. I took the contact details from their website so perhaps they have moved and not updated their site. Thanks Jon
  13. Reading the finals hints at competitors-only are welcome at the event. Can spectators visit on the day? I have family in South Wales who have asked about coming along on the day. Is there anywhere for spectators and any facilities? Jon
  14. Revilla has been an absolute star and epitomises the spirit of the club. It was no mean feat to remove the starter as the bolts were seized, taking quite a time in the drizzle! His investigations have resulted in a much simpler (and cheaper) repair than the initial diagnosis, and I have found out much more about how starters work! I will be heading back to see Revilla soon to retrieve my reconditioned starter and return his spare. To note, it appears the original model is no longer available. Jon
  15. Jonathan Laziness on my part for starting a new thread - I should have searched for the original .. Now done more tests: 1. No sound from solenoid when turning on ignition; definite 'click' from MFRU when pressing starter button. 2. Jump leads connected to +ve terminal and engine ground terminal; clear increase in battery voltage (12.4 - 13.6) but no effect on starting. 3. Poweramp battery, ~2 years old; sealed. 12.4V; after jump starting - idling voltage 13.7 rising to 13.8 at 3000 rpm 4. Full continuity down main lead from battery to solenoid with 12.4V at solenoid. Voltage dropped to ~11.5 when pressing starter button. After looking at other websites, I tried testing voltages across the solenoid connections at various points: I am not sure the results are very good. With ignition off, there is full 12.4V between the 2 main solenoid terminals (from battery & solenoid to starter), same between main terminal and the small wire from the relay, and (I think) between the small wire and the starter terminal (but that might be my memory). I am based near Corby with easy access to Leicester/Northampton. Grateful for any further advice. Jon
  16. Many thanks to those who responded to my earlier post. I have now had chance to take a further look and do some testing. The suspected 'K click' might not be the cause - I used a fly lead from the solenoid to the battery to bypass the relay but no response. I checked the voltage to the solenoid lead and it flicks to full voltage (12.5V) when pressing the starter button. I have checked all fuses, removed/re-fitted relays under the dash, wiggled wires on other relays/switches in engine bay and checked battery connections, all with no result on trying to start. I would be grateful for any further thoughts/advice. I am thinking the results point to the solenoid..? If so, is that an easy replacement? Thanks Jon

    Starting woe

Jonathan Thanks. In answer to the first few questions: no recent work, and not drowned (fuel or water). It is used frequently - we were sprinting with the club in Blyton on weekend. Car started and run perfectly in the morning, it just would not restart (with starter) after stopping - only drove it about 6 miles. I connected jump leads to +ve terminal and earth point on engine block. Current battery voltage is 12.6V, I have not measured when trying to start. I tried to start it again tonight but still dead. I have not got any further down the list of checks, or tried the bypass option to solenoid. Cheers Jon

    Starting woe

Hi Took the car out today, all fine and normal until I stopped in car park in local town. Got back to the car and tried to start but nothing - powers up, shift lights & ignition lights but dead when pressing starter button. Re-set the immobiliser and tried again with same result. Then tried jump leads to no avail. Resorted to a bump start and the car started straight away and was fine driving home. Turned off in the garage and tried to re-start but dead. It is a 1.8 K series - I have never had any similar problems in 4 years of ownership. I would be grateful of some ideas on where to start in tracing the problem. Cheers Jon

    Loton - request

Paul Our passes arrived in the post today - we have 4 guest passes but do not need any of them so happy to send them over. Drop me a PM with your address. Jon
  20. David, Malcolm Many thanks for the offers of help, we have had to change plans due to 'issues' with the tow car that need fixing next week (). We will have to come back home now and then head over to Loton if/when sorted. See you in Loton Jon
  21. Hi We are on holiday next week in West Wales and the shortest route is via Shrewsbury. I was wondering whether anyone knew of any options to leave the 7 (& trailer) at/near Loton for a few days? It would save driving the 2 hrs each way home and back again on Friday/Saturday... Cheers Jon

    Loton - request

Paul We are not brining any guests so as Charlotte and I have entered, we should have some spare tickets. We are planning to go over on Saturday although do have a few ' tow car' issues at present that might cause a change in plans. We could post the tickets...? Jon

    Trailer tyres

I remember a discussion on tyres for trailers but I cannot find it. Any advice on suitable tyres for the car trailer? Current ones now looking rather old with sidewall cracks .... ☹️ Thanks Jon
  24. Thanks Chris - not very obvious in the SRs to my confused brain! Jon
