    Cadwell Park

I can't find any details of the HSSC meeting other than in last year's fixture list, and it just pops up "no details" Any idea where I should look?

    VX silencer

Sorry - been a bit busy today to deal with this. No cat, as it was original equipment on a '96 car. It is side exit (rear was optional then) and 5 inches diameter Edited by - OAP on 2 Mar 2007 16:26:14

    VX silencer

Standard Caterham ss silencer, removed from my 1996 2L VX in 1998 and stored in garage ever since - just in case it came in useful. No heat shield. £75.
  4. Jason at info@caraddiction.co.uk might be able to help.

    R400 noise levels

At Goodwood they test you at the start of the day and put a "98" sticker on the car if you pass. Then there are drive by meters at just after Madgwick / just before Fordwater, then St Mary's and on the chicane exit / start of the pit straight. Fordwater seems to be the worst, and I usually need to stay on the infield to avoid it. It also helps to try and avoid traffic near the meters as well. Castle Coombe, as far as I know, ( I haven't been there for 14/15 months) just test you in a drive through shed at the start of the day, but only let you on if you pass. Oulton seems much more relaxed, and don't seem to treat it with the same degree of seriousness, but I guess their local authority rules are not as stringent as the others

    R400 noise levels

R400 with 4-2-1 and Raceco silencer, warmed up, slowly reved up to 4500rpm, 98 static at Goodwood, but with a tendancy to trigger drive by, 97 at Castle Combe static in the shed, 96 at Oulton Park.
  7. CSR wings are shaped to reduce the low pressure area behind them. Freestyle use vents to achieve the same thing. Why not mount close fitting wings under the existing stays and incorporate spoilers into the moulding to hide the stays? No doubt there is an obvious reason why this can't be done and someone will be along in a minute to point it out.
  8. Now sold, and going to an appreciative home.
  9. Mike, the corrosion waranty lasts for 30 years - which is longer than I will last so I will not get to test it!
  10. Hi Robin - no e-mail from you (unless I have junked it because I didn't recognise the name, I'll check in a minute) so call me on 07970 760 462 if you want. I am in Milford-on-Sea, so about an hour, hour and a half from you down the M27.
  11. 100 views and not even a comment! I thought this car at this price would be of appeal to someone on here, but I guess the dealer will be the one to benefit!

    plug fouling

You might want to speak to Minister before changing the stat - they changed mine to 60 (from memory, but certainly cooler than standard) on my R400 and connected the fan to the ECU rather than the rad to help track day overheating. Downside is the need to tape up the front for motorway / normal driving but it gives me a lot of comfort otherwise.
  14. Used the SVA piping from the cycle wings for mine - glued on before fitting, and I ran a silicone bead across the top to stop stones getting down behind under flex. 14000k miles now and looking a bit marked.

    Tacho wires and CPS

Myles, I've got a Datatool Revlight which I've had for a couple of years but not fitted for one reason or another. Searching Techtalk tells me I'll have trouble making it work, and I may have to connect directly into the sensor if the take off from the pulse isn't good enough. On the other hand, I may just join in the current BB on Chitchat if it doesn't work easily, and sell the Datatool on.

    Sorry - K Series '02 R400.
  17. Can anyone confirm please? As far as i understand, black/white is the pulse, green is live, black is ground. Can anyone explain where I will find the crank position sensor? Thanks in advance.
  18. I have small GRP sailing dinghy which has stood behind my garage for about ten years, and now requires some renovation. Can anyone recommend a suitable paint for the hull? It was suffering from slight osmosis but this seems to have dried out, so it is just to cover up some scratches and improve the general dullness.

    R400 Petrol issue.

RJ - I'm no expert, so would be happy to hear why moving the Lambda would have no effect. As I understand it, ceramic zirconium oxide when coated with platinum - ie the sensor - reacts with residual oxygen in the exhaust such that it delivers messages to the ECU in an attempt to find the perfect stoichiometric ratio for the fuel / engine it controls. If - as in the case of a Dartford spec R400 - the sensor is fitted immediately in front of the cat, it is subject to additional oxygen drawn through the four primary / cat joints at certain throttle settings. The sensor then tells the ECU to deliver more fuel, ie enrichen the mixture. Conversely, moving the sensor up stream of the 4/4 joint should reduce exposure to this "extra"oxygen and has the effect of weakening the mixture - it certainly did on my car.

    R400 Petrol issue.

If the car is still fitted with a cat, and the lambda is fitted to it, move it back to the forth primary, changing over the blanking bolt. This helped weaken the mixture on mine, presumably because air was getting in around the joint. Mileage seems about right though.

    O/T Jacking a VX220

If these are the same as an Elise, you should only jack at the marked points under the sill - elsewhere may distort the tub. If these marks (stickers on an Elise) are not immediately apparent, try cleaning under the sill to make them easier to see.
  22. I've used Meths with some success - you might have to give it one or two applications.
  23. Anyone tried glueing a coin in the slot? Seems to me this would save groveling under the car to look for it.
