  1. Im been thinking along these lines last weekend... if I plumbed in the system as per SBD wouldnt the oil take a LONG time to warm up and on cold days would the oil ever reach correct temp?? ta Chris I wonder if you can get A021R's with studs?? 😬

Hijack... is it easy to remove the speedo cable from the 90' unit without removing the 90' unit from the Gbox and Gbox in situ... my car was fitted with wrong cable by Ratrace and after a year I think its about time I got the correct one in there and the speedo working ta Chris I wonder if you can get A021R's with studs?? 😬

  4. if the engine wont run with the rev limiter fitter either dodgy earth or faulty limiter.. my old Oxex failed 2 weeks before warrentee expired.. Chris I wonder if you can get A021R's with studs?? 😬
  5. which strips you thinking about installing???? the sill protectors (6"x36) or the full monty full side panel.. the only bad thing I can say about it is if your not carefull when pollishing you may leave while polish line at the edge of the armourfend.. mu car is simular orange to BC and O cant see it unless I look for it IYSWIM.. dunno about dayglow (pink?) tho thought no one would notice it as they are all squinting anyway Chris I wonder if you can get A021R's with studs?? 😬

  7. You said it already... offer more for less... Birkin n westfield are much more competative in their pricing for a simular spec car.. n lets face it they are superior (enginering wise) cars aswell (cat n pigions 😳) or a better priced entry level car.. was it 16k for a base model??? other than that.. dunno, better engine choice's as std fit.. waxoil if requested.. (should be FOC for all kits imho) I wonder if you can get A021R's with studs?? 😬
  8. A-Frame bush has prob gone... iv you have drivenmore than 500-1000miles without changing it I'll put money thats your issue... Very easy fix (even I did it) and the bush only costs about 1ukp from CC or Redline... you only need 2 spanners (17mm??) and a pair of molegrips and 4 hands.. use search.. there is a post somewhere that tells how t change it... it basicly comes down to; 1) jack up rear of car(optional, I did it with car on the floor), use axle stands 2) undo big bolt that goes through the rear A-Frame bush, (the one almost at the very back of the car) 3) pull the A-frame down a little to release from the bush 3a) watch the diff nose drop with a little clunk.. you will swear ( 🙆🏻) at this point n think you'v broke it. Dont worry, see note later 4) using screw driver wrench out old bushes.. they are probably marshmellow after use. 5) insert the 2 new bushes.. use copperslip if you have it.. I didnt n wished I had. 6) Now the hard bit... using molegrips squease bushes together enought to be able to put the A-Frame mount back over them... WHILST rotating the diff a little as it's nose would have droped a little when you removed the old bushes.. you realy need 4 hands but I used a small car jack to jack up the nose of the diff a little to rotate the diff into the correct position to insert the new bush... sounds compliacted but it itsnt once your down there n see what I mean..   9. 1) Do the '80's cars come in "long form"; A: Yes.. mine is a '84 and its a long cotpit.. Im 6' (34" leg) and could just about fit in with the arched type bench seats.. I fitted tillets now and dont even have the seats all teh way back. 2) How much for an engine rebuild on a crossflow and should I worry about 20k + on an engine? A: How much you wana spend..??? Vulcan can do a strip n rebuild for 350ukp + the cost of any parts you would need.. which is quite a few. Piston (now mandatory but reccomended), rings, cam, bearings etcetc.. look at 800ukp+ for a std rebuild 120-130bhp.. or all the way upto 2.5-3k if you want the extra 30-40-50+bhp 3) Is it easy to have and engine lid polished (i.e ditch the paint and bring out the alum.) Huh? you mean the rocker cover on the top of the engine.. spk to Vulcan. 4) Can long wings be converted to cycle wings. if so how much and any negatives. A: Yes.. mainly cost and what to do with the hole that are left in the side of the car. I had the Ali along the side ofthe car replaced, others have filled the holes and had the car painted, either is *not* cheap. Oh and you will get wet.. the swept wings do help *alot* in reducing the amount of rain thrown into the cotpit from the front wheels when its raining or standing water. 5) de dion? A: Doubt it.. unless its a very late 80's (88+?) most likly live axle.. nothing wrong with that in my opinion, but others disagree. DD axles have some design flaws which means they can rip the lower shock mounting off the DD tube.. older version are more suceptable I understand but best to either search or get someone who knows DD better than I (thats most people here 😬) Live axle is OK, it will probably be a 'ital' axle but some are converted to 'English' (Escort) and all before '82 I think were English. English is heavier and stronger, ital has a bhp limit of about 150ish in std trim.. a 135bhp engine is perfect for a ital axle, but read other posts about how to care/prep your live axle. hope that helps Chris I wonder if you can get A021R's with studs?? 😬
  10. Conor is not wrong... my GF does much the same... but if i decide to get an upgrade to a 6' Finnish blonde she wouldnt fit in the passenger side without suffering major disconfort... Taken a 6' m8 out n after 10 min his foot had pins n neadles from the bas position... If yu have a long footwell you can always chuck something in it for the shorter to brace against and remove to allow the taller to have a ride AND blood circulation in the lower half of the body 😬 me I wonder if you can get A021R's with studs?? 😬

    I think BGH can sell you a new box also... when he reconed mine he spoke about a load of new boxes that had just arrived.... BGH boxes maybe a little more expensive that what Caterham will charge you for a new 5x but ****SOOoooooo**** much better call Brian @ 01580 714114 (Cranbrook, Kent) PS.. if you are on a buget there is no bad points about a Q plate (unless you want a private plate, but if you on a biget I guess not).. no cheaper to sell or buy ❗ you cant see a Q when your driving it ❗ and the plus point is no emmisions tests at the MOT *thumbup* I wonder if you can get A021R's with studs?? 😬

    I think ratrace will sell you just the glass... if not the www.lolocost.co.uk or something sell the same frames and glass for 35ukp AFAIR.. OK the frame might not be as good quality (shiny) but the glass has still to carry the same approval numbers I wonder if you can get A021R's with studs?? 😬

    Ferrino, they make the shafts fronew they dont mod the caterham uprated ones... its a different, apparently stronger metal. I would guess they can make the flange (is it?) bit that bolts onto the drums a different PCD, they provided new ones with the shafts, I guess the spline is not the std fit.. I dunno though. I think quaife will do just about anything for teh right money.. call them as ask to spk to Mick.. I wonder if you can get A021R's with studs?? 😬 Edited by - Chris K on 1 Mar 2004 07:16:33

    Quaife now selling version 2 of their uprated shafts they*say* are ok upto or near 200bhp ❗ 🤔.. it also has sholders to help prevend bearing slide which is IMO a better job than welding then on but if your ok with Caterhams offerings then they sell a uprated version aswell.. if its teh diff I think its not so easy to get a replacement but I guess any of the refurb places will be able to fix most.. SPT (??) forget teh company name I wonder if you can get A021R's with studs?? 😬

  20. Q plates cost the same at the dealers... I think this says it all realy. Q cars come with the added benifit as mentioned that you can do what you like with the engine as its ony a visable smoke test.. much easier 😬 I wonder if you can get A021R's with studs?? 😬

  25. if it doesnt use much/any iol then its prob just breathing... Do the breather pipes run into a bottle of some sort... then another pipe out to air... This is what many on here do.. use the search function there are loads of threads on this... as a cheap test to see if it helps you.. cut some pipe sized holed in the top of a plastic 0.5ltr 7up bottle, run the pipes almost to the bottoe of teh bottle... now run another piece of pipe from near the top of the bottle to somewhere out the car.. you should find this reduces (not stops) the smoke.. chucking in a few pieces of old sponge into the bottle helps to catch the oil from the vapor aswell hope this helps
