  1. Interested in these for a car I have yet to take delivery of. Is there a way I can order a set of these in advance of the arrival of the car, or does it truly require car/door specific measurements to be known prior to ordering?
  2. What a project... the house as well as the car.
  3. #11, thank you - that is just the sort of insight I was hoping for.
  4. #9: I quite agree. As for the 6's vs 8's debate, I'd prefer predictable, readable handling, and from what I've read 6's on the rears are better for this than 8's. Does this bear out for those of you who run 6's? I love the look of the wider 8's but would prioritize handling if there's a difference to be had.
  5. I have a new to me Sigma Superlight on the way, which is currently on 15 inch 10 spoke anthracite wheels and CR500's (2007 vintage if I remember correctly, which seem too old to be safe). I've read the threads on here and PH regarding 13's vs 15's but what's not clear to me is whether for Sigma cars 6 or 8 inch rears are preferred. Any suggestions or opinions either way? Next question would be on rubber. What are the current preferred tyres for a car that will be 80/20 road/track?
  6. Possibly a dumb suggestion, but have you checked that your exhaust/silencer isn't partially blocked with something? Or maybe the internal silencer baffles are breaking up and have obstructed the exhaust flow?
  7. I can't be certain, but you might find that VAT becomes payable on a vehicle that is imported to the UK if VAT wasn't paid when new. I speak from experience of importing a used boat from Jersey to the UK in 2020 - as I say, the rules might be different for cars than boats.... but it's probably best to find out first rather than finding out the hard way.
  8. "Is it the case that all vehicles produced after 2030 must be EV but no restrictions on ownership or use of ICE vehicles other that dissuasion of use through economic penalties? No ICE (hybrid only) from 2030. Fully electric only from 2035. Used ICE cars can continue to be used. In 2035 I wonder if there will be a market that springs up doing ICE retrofits of new electric Caterhams and other niche manufacturers, like the reverse of Vintage Voltage. I might start hoarding Duratec & Sigma engines. [strokes chin thoughtfully]. On a serious note, I'd be amazed if the government don't decide to implement a low volume manufacturer exemption from EV requirements, or at the very least, grant them an extension beyond 2035.
  9. Thanks Kris for a very comprehensive reply. Appreciated! And thanks to all who shared their knowledge on this - what a great community here.
  10. Hi Andy - this was what I was hoping to hear. All the literature on the Caterham Parts site seems to be focussed on the 270 to 310 upgrade, but makes no mention of starting with the 125bhp engine. Thanks for sharing your real-world experience.
  11. Thanks Mrp, I did look there and I'm sorry to say I still can't see where the TiVCT upgrades from 125 to 152bhp are called out. I can see the fixed cam upgrades from 125 to 140, then the VVC (TiCVT) upgrade from 135 to 152, but that's all.
  12. I've searched on here and a more general google search but can't find a definitive answer. Investigating the feasibility of turning an Academy car into a 310R and I'm presuming that it's possible to upgrade an entry-level Sigma TiVCT 125bhp engine to 310 specification (152bhp). Can any owners confirm this? Caterham and Premier don't appear to offer anything from 125-135bhp, only from 270 to 310 spec, according to respective websites. I'm pretty sure it's technically possible but I'm curious that there doesn't seem to be anything on the internet offering/confirming the same. Of course, it could just be me not looking in the right places... thoughts?
  13. Possibly a silly question, but is there a reason why a vinyl number plate can't be stuck across the top of the nose cone instead of a hard plate underneath the grille? I'm sure I've seen this done in the past, but not sure if it's legally permissible?
