Hi Mike, fantastic post... only detail missing was your mileage. I realise track work will not be representative of road use, but it would be interesting to know if your CSR had done a few thousand miles of tens of thousands.
Does anyone know anything about this car because the advert has just about no details and I'm not even convinced it is a Caterham just by looking at it... (and if from 1970 as it claims then surely it would be a Lotus even if sold by Caterham). https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/12582300
I was trying to work out what kind of LSD you have fitted based on previous posts... but better just to ask. Other question would be if it has lowered floors? Does seem like a nice car (pictures would be great) and when I am actually ready to get back into Seven ownership it would be pretty much ideal spec...
Sounds like a fantastic bit of kit, would it be rude to ask why you'd be willing to sell it? Would love to be interested but not quite ready to get a Seven at the moment and it's way out of my league (deserves a driver who can realise its potential).
Mileage (approx. 8500) was in the title of the original post, but I agree it seems to be aimed at people who are prepared to get in touch (because they are genuinely interested in the car) which I can understand.
Approx location might be useful too, but I guess you will tell anyone who needs to know. Sorry to hear that you are having to sell, hope it works out OK.
Had the same issue with the 21, black electrical tape was my solution back then, though not as neatly done as the hole-punch. Of course, it was a separate light, but still tricky to get to. Not sure if any 21 owners found a better approach.
I've had a quick look and cannot spot an easy fix - there are some very old posts on the Drupal forum about people wanting to do this and not being able to do so
I recall issues with trying to use a light throttle on a freshly-started X-Flow (lots of hiccups, not very smooth to pull away) - it was much happier with being given a bit of gas... Of course, once the engine was warmed up, giving it a bit more gas was fun (especially as the rubbish Goodyear Eagle tyres offered virtually no resistance to wheelspin). Sorry, only advice I can give is to swap to a K series if you want a quiet starting car
From this I would guess painted: While I am not in the market at the moment, looks nice. What wheels and tyres? (I'd guess at 14" wheels, but could easily be wrong) Also, engine power? (142bhp would be my guess, again, could easily be wrong)
Not this one I take it: https://krazyhorse.co.uk/collections/current-car-stock/products/21-21-caterham-super-seven-1600-standard-chassis-saxony-grey-oxford-white-with-biscuit-muirhead-leather An interesting look (not quite to my taste) and way too rich for my blood... but I am sure it will make someone very happy.
Surprised you don't already use earplugs, as a sufferer of hearing loss and tinnitus I'd recommend you protect your hearing when you can do so legally.
Fuses don't seem to match the photo. In the 21 build manual I seem to recall the fuse diagram was reversed (so as if looking from behind), but that would not explain the differences either...
Just had this pop up on my phone:
