    Speed sensor gap

Thanks for your comments, folks. I didn't get much of a chance to look at the speedo yesterday which, apart from being a trifle crowded on track, was a great day! The bracket is new (from CC, the last one had broken where the rear ARB connects, which was the cause of the issue). The earth isn't the issue. I will fiddle with the gap as soon as I have a moment.
  2. OK, all set for Brands Hatch track day tomorrow. But, a new new speedo sensor was fitted last week and it isn't working. I backed the sensor off a bit (it was very small) and increased the gap to about 1.5mm (by eye) and it burst into life. However, above 50mph, it now drops to zero. So, assuming the earth and similar are OK, should I: A - Increase the gap? B - Decrease the gap? Answers on a postcard, please!
  3. It sounds as if we have the same engine. I haven't yet started playing with the TPS and balancing the throttle bodies. However, significant low rev improvement has been achieved by ensuring the plugs all have the same gap and were clean, etc. Also, ensuring that the vacuum pipe from the back end of the engine is completely blocked off at that end and open to the elements at the vacuum switch end beside the ECU. The latter took a lot of time to resolve as it is not that well documented. Bob
  4. That was me on the way to Dunsfold. Wet? We were drenched!!!
  5. I had the same issue which was (mostly) cured by loosening the four bolts holding the screen on and making sure the screen is tipped back as far as it will go before tightening them up again. It now only happens I'd there is a strong gust or lump of air. Bob
  6. A charity, of which I am a Trustee, has been gifted the registration GN 100, which is for sale. It is no longer on a vehicle. Looking for offers around £10k. Any interest to anyone? Bob C
  7. That wasn't a spin. That was orienteering!
  8. Assuming you have the standard Caterham radiator with the crimped plastic top and bottom, this is how my leak started. If so, it will gradually get worse. I eventually got the wisps of steam and coolant on the windscreen on heavy acceleration. I replaced the radiator with one from Radtech via SevenSpeed. I am very happy with this solution. Bob C

    Radiator Springs

Yes, a pun on the film and my leak. Sorry if this was too complex for some... Bob
  10. The standard Caterham radiator on Bluebell, my Sigma 150 SV, started to leak slowly a while back. It was the classic gradual failure of the crimped join between the plastic top and the aluminium matrix. This resulted with a couple of unplanned stops to top up. Rather than wait for the inevitable collapse in a cloud of steam, and spurred on by the article in the July 2012 Low Flying, I bit the bullet and ordered one of Radtech's finest through Carl at SevenSpeed. He was enormously helpful on the 'phone. The (very smart and beautifully engineered) radiator arrived 11 days later. At Carl's suggestion, I went for the bigger fan and didn't muck around thinking I could refit the old one. Taking out the old radiator and ally fan cowling on the old one was more tricky than fitting the new one. The whole job was done in a little over two hours. So, it was all as straightforward as predicted and looks superb. I did around 100m today and it quickly settled around 80 degrees. So, I am well happy! Picture . Bob C
  11. That would have been me staying the weekend with some friends. I rather like Bosham. Although Sunday wasn't an ideal day for moving a boat across Chichester Harbour or for driving back to London with the roof off... Bob C
  12. You did well. Guildford was a parking lot... ☹️
  13. That would have been me with a chum heading off to play with Solent Sevens before going on to Hamble to compete in the Round the Island Race. It was a good weekend! Bob
  14. That would have been me on my way down to Lymington. The hood went on at Guildford and the hail was coming in through the heater! Ultimately, I was off to Chepstow on Saturday for an awesome run to buy some fish 'n chips with 60 other similarly minded soles in a pla(i)ce called Aberdovey. Despite the weather, and a marginal loss of talent on the way home over the ranges, a brilliant weekend! The Taffis's Fish and Chip run will definitely be done again. Many thanks to the organisers and the kind chap, Alan, who led the way for me. Bob
  15. That would have been mine! I was skippering my old school boat for the Arrow Trophy up in Cowes. I also had a J109 spinnaker in the footwell! Roof came off for the trip to Lymington and back o London (via Marlborough) on Monday. Hope you passed. It was quite breezy! Bob
