  1. Gary - can you send me the battery tray pics too? I'll BM you so you have my address.
  2. What condition tunnel cover are you looking for? I bought a 2nd hand one last year which I'll be swapping with mine at some point. Mine has a scuff where the driver's harness buckle catches it, which is showing through to the metal. Fully understand if you're looking for something in better condition.
  3. BTTT Any interest? Is the price too high?

How many people thought that the subject title was implying you were looking for 🥰 🥰 🥰 ? I'm not convinced you're looking on the right forum (plus you may be in for some trouble if your fiancée finds out! )
  5. I've got a 1 year older, similar spec car and have the same issue. Mine's been getting steadily worse for the last 4 years - but according to my friendly, local MOT man it would still pass the emissions test (not that it needs it ) It's also quite noisy most of the time, but was only 96dB when last measured at a trackday.
  6. I have the following offcuts for sale: Axiom Avalon Granite - "etchings" finish postformed laminate http://www.worktops.uk.com/file_store/2912.jpg?1170767829 660mm deep, 1350mm wide, 40mm thick 900mm deep, 560mm wide, 40mm thick (1 of the rounded edges is chipped for first ~2cm) Both these offcuts are breakfast bar style - ie rounded edges on 2 opposite sides. matching upstand 100mm high, 2480mm, 18mm thick Anyone interested in the remaining worktop for 20 quid? Also 3m length of oak effect cornice (90mmx20mm approx) £10 Collection from RG6 (M4 J10/J11), Brentford (M4 J2) or possibly ReHaB meetings (though it ain't gonna fit in the 7!) 7. Out of interest, what happens if you take the wire off the sender and touch it to ground? This should normally make the oil gauge go to full scale deflection.
  8. Thanks - I found a SX4 forum which had a diagram showing how to remove the bumper... (I've only seen 2 myself, the 2nd one was pointed out by the owner of the 1st one on a blat once...) 😬
  9. Anyone know what's involved in replacing the front grille that sits below the number plate on a 2007 Suzuki SX4? Can it be done without removing the whole bumper assembly? I've offered to help a friend replace as the grille is 30 quid, but fitting is 100 quid.
  10. A couple of troubleshooting ideas: Any fuses popped? Have you trapped any wires when everything went back? Any routing issues with the crank position sensor cable? (I believe If this signal isn't seen by the ecu then no fuel is injected.) What do you hear when you turn the ignition on? Fuel pump whir? IACV resetting? Consider taking the plugs out and checking that fuel is being injected.
  11. Part Exchange: VW CADDY 2004
  12. Also try speaking to James Whiting - I think he can get hold of new heat exchangers which can be fitted into the original housing.
  13. And I thought this would be a discussion on traceability of reference standards, tolerance and specifications... As an interesting aside, my Octavia's regular speedo is a few percent high, but when you access the diagnostic display (which appears on the aircon temperature displays and is controlled by the aircon controls) the digital readout matches the GPS. In other words they are deliberately manipulating the figures, despite having an accurate measurement. I can understand that they have to fit into this 0-10% optimistic regulation, but tyre wear should not affect the reading by that much (perhaps 2%) and changing wheels would normally require a different calibration factor. Combine this with roadside "Slow down - 30mph" signs that trigger at 28mph according to the GPS and it's no wonder we've become a nation fixated by speed. 😔
  14. Have you checked that the manifold isn't damaged? An impact large enough for the exhaust to meet the skin could potentially damage something else. Just a thought...
  15. C7 CRS spotted poking out by the Texaco garage on the B3349 and a yellow one that followed me along part of the A387.
  16. Hi Nodrog - that was me in the BRG/yellow 7. I would have been further in front of Chris if I hadn't had to go back and repeat some of the bends again...
  17. That would have been me - BRG/yellow S3 So nice to actually need sunglasses to drive again.
  18. don't know about the little one connecting the starter to the solenoid, still don't know what it does? That's the starter motor's positive connection. It's switched to 12v when the switch in the solenoid is activated. (see the text with my first picture.)
  19. Yes. The mod on that page affects the feed that triggers the solenoid (which is the small wire.) Before you start making mods it would be better to determine the actual problem that you are experiencing. For example, if the solenoid has a poor connection then beefing up the supply to it is not really the fix.
  20. Out of interest what does the little wire which connects the solenoid to the starter motor do? That's the 12v feed to the starter motor. When the solenoid is energised, the switch joins the main battery feed to the starter. A few pics from my refurb... http://www.lazerbrain.com/7img/starter/P1060389.JPG On mine there's a dry joint where the central terminal (power to the solenoid) has been tightened and cracked. http://www.lazerbrain.com/7img/starter/P1060392.JPG Here you can see the spring that brings the piston out when the solenoid has no power, also the bit that attaches to the lever in the starter. http://www.lazerbrain.com/7img/starter/P1060393.JPG The rear of the piston - this bit pushes on the switch. http://www.lazerbrain.com/7img/starter/P1060394.JPG The switch inside the solenoid http://www.lazerbrain.com/7img/starter/P1060395.JPG This is the lever at the bottom of where the solenoid is mounted. Pushing down the lever returns the starter pinion to the rest position (ie when the engine is not being started.) http://www.lazerbrain.com/7img/starter/P1060398.JPG Checking the solenoid works by directly connecting across the car battery. Not the safest method... http://www.lazerbrain.com/7img/starter/P1060400.JPG Testing the starter. You can visualise when the solenoid is energised it will pull the piston towards the battery in this picture. The lever from the other picture is pulled towards the battery causing the other end to push the pinion away from the battery. You can see the pinion and the area that it can move to along its shaft.
  21. Ooops - I may have confused you... The pinion is the small gearwheel that is on the end of the starter motor. It slides up and down its shaft to engage with the flywheel (when extended) or park in its rest position so it's doesn't get spun round when the engine is running. The piston on the end of the solenoid hooks over the lever that moves the pinion. (This is starting to sound like a bizarre nursery rhyme!) I can't remember, but I think you'll need the starter removed from the engine to remove the solenoid before you can try to unhook the business end of the piston from the lever. Let me check for some pics from my attempts - will try to post again later.
  22. It's been a while since I took my solenoid apart, so my memory may have faded... Please have a look at your starter and solenoid to compare against my comments. When the solenoid is energised it pulls the piston in. The back of the piston pushes on the switch which joins the main battery cable to the starter motor supply, thus starting the starter motor spinning. Meanwhile the piston moving in pulls the lever which engages the starter motor pinion with the teeth on the flywheel. When the power to the solenoid is cut (by releasing the ignition key back to the 'running' position) the spring pulls the piston back out. This cuts the power to the spinning starter motor and the pinion returns to its rest position. If the piston from your previous solenoid is not long enough to engage the switch then I would imagine you would hear the click of the solenoid and the pinion being pushed out, but no starter motor spinning noises. I recall testing my starter motor before bolting it into position. I held the casing against the block to earth it and used a spanner to short the solenoid connection to the live main battery cable. Not the safest of tests, and the starter gives a big kick when it starts up! It did demonstrate the action though.
  23. John, there's some footage of him cornering on a European motorway in my . He also appeared to break down on Stelvio and had to park up. What I didn't realise until the end of the event was that he'd driven from Prague to Calais for the start of the event! cheers, Darren.
