  3. I recon it had got a little more 'notchy' over the last few months.....but thought I'd imagined it........am planning to go to LeMans and have a few TD's booked....don't want it to go pop while out and about.......better sort it now !
  4. Hi, going to change my clutch (while fixing gearbox)...2001, 1.6.SS K-Series 150BHP (30K miles) ....is the "uprated" clutch kit from CC the right choice ? here, plus I'll change the CRB.....do I also need to buy new bolts to attached the clutch to flywheel ? here, or can I reuse ?......should I change the clutch fork too ?.....I have no idea if the current one is good or not ? thanks all Graham Edited by - gpbox on 28 Apr 2012 14:17:44

  6. advice please......do I need to remove (2001 1.6 SS K series): - The Throttle bodies ? - The cross members running front to back diagonally in top of engine bay ? - The Starter motor ? With an Apollo, is it best to remove the sandwich plate and leave the pipes intact, or leave Sandwich plate and remove pipes (at the sandwich plate)...looks like sandwich plate is secured with a 26mm socket 😔 non standard socket set size... I guess while its all out, smart thing is to replace CRB ?...Clutch ? (30K miles) Finally anyone is 50 miles of Faringdon (south Oxon) with an engine hoist +balance bar i can rent ? (I have trailer can collect)...thanks Graham
  7. Simple job....its raining so lets change the Gearbox (6 speed) oil....easy....crack off the filler plug no problem....next teh drain plug, again no problem...oil starts to drain, 'plop' what the hell was that !....$hit...fragments of 'shim' appear in drained oil !....like I said Bugger !........ so chaps, never taken the engine out before, it a 16 SS (which I assume I have to do to get the gearbox out ?).....can anyone point me at a good thread describing what needs to be done (I'm pretty handy with a spanner)...also need to find an engine hoist !.....then call RR for a GB refurb !....thanks for any prompt advice ! Graham oh, yes got a TD at Cadwell on 20 May !!!!....bugger !!!!!!

  9. Hey Andrew, I had the petrol smell thing a month ago too, for me it was just the seal on the fuel level sender totally perished and sloshing fuel out onto the top of the tank (under the boot floor)...easy fixed with a replacement form CC..........G

  12. Hi I have a K3 Emerald, if I plug in my PC and a 3 way selector switch and select Map 3 (which I see confirmed by the PC), then unplug both, will the ECU remember I was last running Map 3 and stay there, or without the selector switch connected default back to Map 1 (either immediatly of next time I start the car) ?....tx G PS - Engine is running during above process... 13. Hi Colin, have txt and emailed you ..........Graham
  14. I seem to have an excess of wheel tie down straps.....I have four heavy duty ratchet ties downs with rim protectors etc.... the tags state 5 Ton, so stronger than you need for a 7 !...but if you want to also use them with larger vehicles they are perfect.....yours for the princely sum of a £20.....but you would need to collect from Faringdon (South Oxon)...cheers Graham
  15. HI, will be setting up a leaner Map for my 16SS in next few weeks........if I fit a 'map chance' switch and it accidentally got set to the MOT map and I ran it for regular road use...would that damage the engine in any way? ....cheers Graham
  16. Hi Lee a mate of mine has one for sale, email him at aj_williamson AT btinternet DOT com ...or BM me and I can connect you separately Graham
  17. thanks guys...a new addition to my tool kit...left the old belt on top of the Apollo, should the unthinkable happen !....on the may to Le Mans !
  18. Hi all, thought I'd do my pre-emptive 'bit' and changed the alternator belt (2001 1.6SS) ....realised last time I did it, I did not spot the small adjuster bolt sticking out of the bottom of the alternator for the fork in the end of the adjuster bracket ...which is a pretty good adjustment help..... however gawd its tricky to get to........I unscrewed it enough to get the lower braked to fit correctly and bolted everything up..... I cannot see any way to adjust it once the lower bracket in in place.....has anyone a cunning method of adjusting the little blighter ?.... cheers G
  19. are the Dowty washers part of the oil pipe conneciton or some other connection ?....I thought the sandwich plate would have a large 'o' ring rubber washer (like an oil filter) and that would be all.............where can I get the Dowty washers from ?...thanks G
  20. Thanks John, spoke to Think Auto today...great people. are sending me a sandwich plate seal FOC !...I'm still contemplating my next move.....I don't know where the leak in coming from (actually its a tiny droplet after an hours worth of running !)... If I can replace the sandwich seal without having to remove the oil pipes...(assuming the leak in not coming from the pipes)...sounds a lot easier than Plan B: remove pipes from Apollo tank and re seating oil pipes to sandwich plate etc..... got a week to decide cheers Graham

    Apollo leak....

yes I had a good look without the filter on....it does not appear to have a nut which spins onto the original thread (unlike some pictures I have seen on BC of perhaps a more recent version? )...........

    Apollo leak....

cool thanks - how does the sandwich plat fix on ?......I've had a look at it and there does not appear to be any bolts etc...tx

    Apollo leak....

Look like one of the connection into the sandwich plate is leaking..at least there is a grimy film over the top two hosed coming into the sandwich plate........and same grimy oil film in that area of engine/footwell..........I have had the car 4 years and there has always been a 'drop' (literally) of oil accumulate at the bottom of the sandwich plate....(the car has not lost a noticeable amount of oil tho')....as I did not fit the Apollo, not sure how the sandwich plate can be removed (its a 2001 1.6 K)..or if I need to..... all suggestion on my options welcome........cheers Graham
