  1. Thanks but I found Mini thermostats are too big 54mm the K series is 52mm
  2. Thanks Rimmer brothers don't seem to have any left but I got hold of one from a Lotus specialist. One thing I have found is there a whole host of different fan switches which may explain why some engines run hot when stationary. I am going to fit an 88 degree fan switch in conjunction with the 82 degree stat.
  3. Anybody know what other vehicles this thermostat was fitted to? I'm having a hell of job locating one at least an 82 degree one
  4. Anyone know where I can get hold of a K series 82 degree thermostat I can't seem to find one.
  5. I am about to fit a set of DTH throttle bodies and will be using the standard Rover fuel rail. Why does the pressure regulator have a vaccum connector?. I also have a vaccum pipe connected to a plastic cylinder with an electrical plug which I think is a charcoal can for collecting fumes. Can I just remove the vaccum pipe? will petrol tank still be able to vent, breathe. Also the engine has a vaccum connection to a breather on the cam cover via a very small drilling, I have been advised to ignore this, however if I block this the crankcase will have no through flow of fresh air to rid it of blow by fumes, does it matter?
  6. Hi Oily, I will be in touch, I needed to buy a selection of shims to measure my required clearances. I tried measuring the clearance without a shim in place but found I couldn't do it with any great accuracy as i had to use a whole selection of feeler gauges to judge the gap and I don't have any access to slip gauges. I will use the kit to work out what I need.
  7. I had exactly the same problem and used Redline MTL GL4 don't use GL5 it attacks the brass. It improved my gear change although I still try to avoid using second till it warms up as its still not great. As to the cause they are probably poorly built, i just live with mine but will at some stage have it looked at.
  8. Found a shim kit KTM bikes ise 10 mm shims
  9. Does anyone know where I could buy a shim kit I could do with a selection of of 10 mm shims
  10. Removed my SS camshafts and tried fitting them to my Janspeed head. I have encountered a problem, the Janspeed head came with cams and was correctly shimmed but the SS camshafts have a much larger base circle! So I do not have a clearance to measure as the valve is held open even when the tappet is sitting on the bottom of the base circle. looks like I will need 16 shims but how will I be able to work out the required clearance, am I missing something?
  11. Hi Eccles could you put me down for a pair? Thanks

    Newman cams

Has anyone had any experience of these cams in a K series

    Mot

Its a bit of a mine field and I'm not surprised Mot testers have never heard of the Caterham exclusion. Character #6 is K. My car was not amateur build,it was a knock down kit built by a dealer. I am lucky as it has failed a few tests with the previous owner who was probably not aware of the exemption.

    Mot

Mot tester has just got back to me, he says that is correct they have never come across this problem before- result.

    Mot

Hi, I'm in Whitley Bay, I don't think there any many if any Caterham specialists this far north. I am waiting for a reply but I don't hold out much hope, if they say it need an emissions test there is not much I can do. I am sure I will be able to find someone, may take a bit of time.

    Mot

Just been to the Mot station and tester seems to think it needs to pass an emissions test! I'm stuffed there is no way it will pass, it was borderline last year with the CAT. I took the VOSA chassis amendment paper work but he had never heard of any such exemption. Could be off the road for a long time.

    Mot

Its 4/5/95 so following the dates it needs to pass an emissions test and requires a CAT however there does seem to be an amendment relating to chassis numbers.

    Mot

Hi Jonathan, Probably a good idea

    Mot

I'm due a Mot and I don't have a CAT however according to my chassis number I only have to pass a visible smoke test. Has anyone had any problems with Mot stations.
  20. I don't think it;s a good idea leaving batteries hooked up to chargers , have had quite a few motorbike batteries ruined by leaving them connected for months over the winter with so called intelligent chargers. I have found the batteries dried out, its ok with wet batteries that you can top up up but not sealed batteries.
  21. Hi Nick, Thanks, unfortunately I'm at the other end of the country. I've ordered the throttle body kit so i will have a few days tinkering ahead. Phil
  22. Hi Richard, Thanks , looks like I will use the standard SS cams it's not worth putting stronger pistons in a 1.4
  23. Hi Nick, Thanks sounds exactly like what I am trying to create I use the car for the road and odd track day, it was feeling a bit flat however I have been collecting parts and I fitted a set of verniers and and a 4-2-1 exhaust, these made a large improvement. I have a Janspeed cylinder head and have acquired a a M3D K6 ECU. I may as well go for the throttle bodies! Which ever camshaft I use I will have to shim it! bugger. The Janspeed head was a 1.4 motorsport version and has had the tappet oil ways blocked so I will have to use solid followers.
  24. Hi Nick, The cylinder head has Piper Spring caps and solid followers. My current engine is a 1.4SS wet liner block which I am told is the best version, however it's on standard pistons so I have to keep the revs down. The 280 duration cam is a no go unless I throw caution the wind! I assume the power band in a 1.4 would be over 8000 rpm also the 774 cam only has 9.1mm lift, I think it may have been some sort of Rover homologation cam. I could use my SS cams but they are they are the early ones with the feeble looking 8mm bolts and I was under the assumption that 633/1320 were superior. Ideally I would like to fit throttle bodies, then at later date if I want more power I can just transfer everything over.I do have the 6 speed gearbox which suits this combination.
  25. I'm after a pair of 633/1320 piper cams
