  1. Has anybody got a set of Nitron dampers fitted to a pre 96 car? I have just installed my NTR dampers to the front and they are sitting on the bump stops,I have the ride height set to 150mm assuming I am measuring in the right place. I have 85mm of sump clearance. Rough measurements give me about 35mm of travel from full droop to the top of the bump stop.
  2. Hopefully I will be able to make it and hold everyone up whilst trundling round the track! Still trying to sort out leave but will be cutting it fine as usual
  3. Thanks for the replies, Everything seems fine since I've cleaned and soldered the wiring. Hot and cold starts just the same ,fine now touch wood I have wrapped the standard manifold in exhaust wrap don't know what this will do to the standard poor quality manifold.
  4. Hi Jonathon, Yes I found the excellent DVA pages I also bought a copy of Des Hammill's book makes depressing reading and put me off wet liner blocks. However that said I was going to modify my existing 1.4 in the winter as I will have to remove it to cure a gearbox leak. After an Email to DVA I think I will be far better starting with a 1.8 /1.6. Although the 1.4ss is great fun its got nothing below 5000 rpm and its going to be a cheaper way to get more power and make a better road car at least on my budget! If I can find a good one I might just get away with gaskets, piston rings and bolts, plonk on a gas flowed head and fit my ss cams. At least it seems that easy, might have to be careful with the 7600 ECU limiter though.
  5. I am thinking of getting hold of a second hand 1.8 or 1.6 K series. Is there anything I need to be aware of, apart from the well known head gasket problem. Is the bottom end robust, Ideally I would like use the standard pistons assuming the are not worn.
  6. Thanks, Back to the drawing board!
  7. Thanks Nick, A bit too expensive at £1200+! I am looking to fit a R400 system, loose the cat and make a 4 into 2 into 1 link pipe to fit the silencer.
  8. Will a metric Chassis exhaust system ( R400 K series ) fit on an Imperial Chassis. I am looking to purchase a long 4 into 1 one R400 system with the intention of loosing the cat and converting it int a 4 into 2 into 1 in hte future
  9. Has anyone got a long 4 into 1 or 4 into 2 into 1 k series exhaust manifold for sale?
  10. AFFF or aqueous film forming foam is designed for for liquid fuel fires, it works by forming a thin film over the top of fuel excluding the oxygen. It is very effective however most hand held extinguishers are too small you want at least a 1.5 or 2L size, bulky. A car fire develops extremely quickly and a hot engine and oil will make things more difficult to extinguish, with the problems of re ignition,so you need enough extinguishing medium to also have a cooling effect. The most effective solution is the plumbed in version as you need to attack the fire as soon as it breaks out. If your car catches fire by the time you stop and although I don't recommend it,remove your bonnet it might be too late, unless its just a wiring problem. On a 7 the engine compartment is so well ventilated removing the bonnet will not add any more oxygen to the fire but you are putting yourself at risk by doing so and it will be very difficult to apply the medium with the bonnet on. Having said that the advantage with a 7 is there is not much plastic

How do I know if my car needs a catalytic converter my car is 1995 vintage it was not built by Caterham but by Ryders Autoservice am I exempt?
  14. I will, be contacting them next week ,thanks for all the responses
  15. Great thanks, I assume the additional base has captive nuts bonded in?
  16. I had poor idle problems, stalling and it stank, you could smell it was running rich. Its 95 1.4ss and I found the following, my Lambda sensor was loose, I changed the plugs from the recommended plug to a resistor type of the same make and heat range and a broken water temp sensor wire. You can test a lambda sensor, check out Youtube, all you need is a gas blow lamp and a volt meter. I would also check your TPS and the idle control valve.
  17. Has any one used seats from JK composites, Tillets are out of my price range.
  18. Hi Jonathan, Seemed to have ruled out the battery. The most likely cause was the poor quality crimped starter solenoid spade, or the relays. Anyway no problems today, drove 350 miles today to watch BSB stopped and started numerous times not one hiccup and it was p****** down on the way back, so I had everything switched on. I wonder if a lot of these problems are due to bad earth's, the main starter + lead and earth's are just crimped with no weather protection causing high resistance? I still have a few wiring jobs to tidy up found a few more dodgy looking crimps but all on the lighting circuits. At least I now know my heated screen and half hood work!
  19. Hi Jonathan, You were right to start with the battery, I was told it had a new battery when I bought it, rubbish! Its a wet cell type it's showing 12.6 volts so I had a look inside, every cell needed topping up,although the engine spins over really fast! Battery now charged and seems ok and I don't think that's the problem. The starter relay had a dodgy crimp connector, one of the earth leads was a bit past its best. I cleaned and soldered all the main battery and starter connections then put heat shrink on the leads. Overall the wiring is in pretty good condition for a 21 year old car, it's never seen any salt by looks of it. Checked the starter, it's fine. An ancient recon Lucas item. I don't like the idea of it being wrapped in thermal matting as I think this probably does more harm than good and I'm looking to make a stainless heat shield to allow the heat to escape the starter? The alternator may be a bit iffy as it only seems to charge at 14v max and drops to 13.6v with a full load on but its 1995 item. I thought it should be about 14.4 to about 14.7v however it can knock out 13.6 at tick over so it will have do for the minute. Anyway its getting a test tomorrow as I'm off to Knockhill to watch the BSB, I got some free tickets. The last bike race I saw was Olivers Mount when my dad took me and Barry Sheen was racing. He got thrashed by a young Ron Haslem. Got some cable and a multi meter this time,so at least I should be to find out if its a starter or a relay problem! The good thing about bike meets are people are are friendly and a push start should be no bother!
  20. Rang James Whiting Sevens yesterday and received a new hub this morning, fantastic service, no postage charge . It seems a much better quality item.
  21. Hi thanks, Yes got a multi meter, the reason I thought it wasn't the battery is the engine spins over like the clappers on the starter, but I will test the battery. Also just found an article on replacing the big relay under the ECU,seems like a good idea using standard automotive relays.
  22. Hi Jonathon, Just managed to get the search tool to work thanks. Going to check the earths they look a bit tired, battery should be ok its new. Most probably wiring as its 21 years old and its got some horrible crimped connectors I hate them! Will get the spanners out tomorrow
  23. Just managed to bodge a quick repair to my hub till I get a replacement drove 2 miles, stopped the car and it wouldn't start!. I could hear a relay clicking on the left hand side of the dashboard but nothing, gave it 4 tries then rang my wife for a bump start. Took off the bonnet then gave it another try and it started? I have since got it home and tried a few times and it started. Any idea's?,I was going to remove the starter and have a look at the solenoid, looks like the connector has been badly repaired, clean the inside. Also the starter is wrapped in an aluminised heat resistant cloth.I have heard that the starters can get cooked by the exhaust Didn't have any tools with me so I don't know if there was power to the starter solenoid.
  24. Yikes snapping stub axles that's not good! I can't justify spending that sort of money on my car, besides I think its had a fairly sedate life by its previous owner of 20 years and its not on sticky tyres so hopefully they are not too fatigued . Thanks for the offer Sandboy but It looks like I have been able to source one, hopefully Redline will refund me for the returned hub it seems like they are closed down for a couple of weeks on holiday?. I would rather have the old style hub,you just don't know what your getting with some of this far eastern stuff.
  25. Hi Alan it's going to have to go the journey,it wasn't used last year so I need to mot it and get it sold, although once I take out the road I always change my mind Looks like I'm going to have to pay Caterham prices for a hub.
