  1. Pair Piper 774 cams 280 degrees duration 9.1mm lift inlet full lift @ 104 degrees, exhaust 106 degrees for use with solid lifters. £300 or offers
  2. I got my cams identified and they are not quite what I was told they were by the seller. 280 degree duration, nowhere near 264 degrees! I think they will be a bit wild, does anybody have a pair of 633 or 1320 cams for sale?
  3. Thanks Oily I fitted the verniers, just of curiosity. It made a significant difference a vast improvement to the the midrange, I wish I bought them when I purchased the car! My camshaft is on its way back from Piper they have been really helpful. It has been checked and measured and Piper are sending all the specs then I can plonk the Janspeed head on and make a decision about them cams. Revilla is kindly sending me a set of 10mm camshaft bolts
  4. I'm after 2 x 10mm camshaft bolts
  5. Thanks Oily, I have fitted the vernier cam wheels to my standard SS just out of curiosity, I am quite surprised how far out the timing is on these cars! Do you recommend thread lock on the vernier adjustment screws? I have tightened them to 8nm, just a guess.
  6. I have just checked the camshaft timing on my standard 1.4 SS and I have 24 thou on the inlet and 65 thou on the exhaust. I think that is 10 deg retarded on the inlet and about 4 deg advanced on the exhaust?. It's + or - 1 degree as I have been using one dial gauge and a 360 degree so I may have a spot of parallax error. Could this explain why the car has always felt a bit flat? it runs ok with no transmission shunt but nothing happens until 5000 rpm. I have always found the performance of this car a bit underwhelming. I am tempted to try it in it's standard form with properly timed cams before I fit the Janspeed head on with the 774 cams. Still trying to identify these!

    Janspeed Head

Thanks Oily, thought somebody must have them.Hopefully I will be able to use the existing cams if they are suitable ( when I manage to identify them) in which case I only really need to take a few thou off one of the exhausts.

    Janspeed Head

I am still trying to identify the camshafts, have emailed Piper. On removing the cam ladder I have found it has steel valve spring retainers and solid cam followers with shims not modified hydraulic tappets. I will have to retain the solid tappets as the head has had the oil ways pinned. Does anyone know who supplies the shims,Piper do not list them. Hopefully I will be using the cams that came with the head,if that's the case I will be fine as I only need to adjust one and it's tight so I can "rub it down to size"
  9. Hi Oily, I have checked all the clearances. Is there any tolerance on the clearances, all the inlets are between 8 and 10 thou and all the exhausts are 12 thou apart from cylinder no 4 which are 10 and 8 thou. I am running a standard 1.4 SS ECU with a 7600rpm limiter and as yet have not had any problems with the current hydraulic tappets. Should I keep the solid tappets or switch to hydraulic tappets for an easier option Thanks Phil
  10. Hi Richard, Thanks, but camshafts in my cylinder head are using a solid tappet type, I think some of the 1.4 Supersport Caterhams also had solid tappets and I can't seem to find the clearances for those either. I assume they would be similar.
  11. Where might I be able to find the valve clearances for the Piper 633 camshaft. I can't seem to find any information on this cam

    Accusump

Hi Rob, Thanks, I did try and get hold of an Apollo tank but as you state when I looked into the installation instructions it became clear that does supply pressurized oil during surge conditions. I couldn't get the Accusump to fit on the scuttle panel as I have a heater, essential in Northumberland. I may be able to get it to fit if I mount the solenoid remotely.

    Accusump

Has anyone got any photo's of one fitted. I have the 2 litre version. I have been suffering oil surge with Avon ZT5 on track days so I want to install this before I fit Toyo 888'S. Sump is fitted with the foam baffle and was up to the max on the dip stick. The engine seems good it has over 45 psi on idle and 70 psi above 3000 rpm hot. I am using a sandwich plate with a non return valve and a electric solenoid with a pressure switch set at 40 psi. I couldn't get hold of an Apollo system and I can't work out how it helps if the oil pump is starved of oil, will the pressure not drop to zero? I didn't think an oil pump would be able to pressurize air.
  14. Thanks, Seem very similar, how often do you need to check the valve clearances with solid cam followers?
  15. Does anyone have a distributor rotor arm spigot for a K series engine to sell?
  16. How does the K series SS camshaft compare to the Piper 633 cam? Does anybody have any experience of these cams
  17. Hi Malcolm, Thanks, do you have one for sale? Many thanks Phil
  18. Just for reference my oil sender is 1/8 NPT 1995 Caterham or that may be BSP Taper?
  19. Does anyone know what the duration and lift is for these camshafts ? and where I would be able to get hold of a rotor arm spigot ? Thanks Phil

    Janspeed Head

I bought it! seems in excellent condition. The combustion camber has been machined around the valves to reduce shrouding but the cambers are just rough cast. It has bronze guides on the inlets, flashing on the waterways has been removed and the ports modified but not polished. The head has been drilled for the older tensioner, I think the cams are Piper 633 (264 deg duration?) but the ends of the cams are stamped 774? but the shafts have Piper casting marks, I will have to check the valve clearances as it has solid followers.Need to get hold of some vernier pulleys and I am going to try and pick up a cheap second hand Emerald ECU,roll on the Spring. Off into the garage tomorrow to fit a mechanical oil pressure gauge, but I am going to use braided brake line instead of th horrible nylon stuff that came with the gauge.
  21. I did my first car track day this year, Get a comfortable Helmet, don't bother with overalls just make sure you have warm clothes. I bought a cheap pair of Karting shoes. Ensure your car is in good mechanical order, don't bother fiddling with suspension or tyres, you don't need an aero screen. Start at the back then you don't have worry about being overtaken. I did my first Track day at Cadwell with a slow 1.4, crap tyres Avon ZT5 no grip! tired saggy dampers and had a great time. I have finally managed to post a photo!
  22. Thanks Jonathan I am hopeless with computers
  23. I'm selling my Ducati if anyone is interested eBay Item Number: 132055534202 Great road bike but its no crotch rocket, it's just not getting used and has go since I acquired my 7 Sorry but I cannot post photo's on this site, I've tried but to no avail.
