  1. Seen the photos, thank you. The silencer looks riveted, as repackable should it not be bolted?

There was no sealer on mine. What should be used?

  5. Hi Paul, a friend of mine is interested in left lower aero wishbone, repackable silencer (photos?) and the pair of extra wide rear wings (any chance of measuring the width and what is the condition?). Email in PM.

I'm not sure I share all of this pessimism - at the end of the day this has been a successful project. CC did not participate - so what? I will still give them the result of my work to consider. As for the rest - I'll just enjoy the drive. Now that I know it does not overcool.

    620R cooling

Hi Martyn, loads of questions. I haven't really chatted to Mark yet about going commercial and since he was instrumental in providing info and parts, I wouldn't be able to comment without talking to him first. Truth to be said, we have only so far modified my SV, his S3 is yet to be done. We went in belts and braces as I didn't want to get stuck during the mod as I had Anglesey track day booked. So we've outsourced brand new 620 aluminium stat housing with a new gasket, new Duratec 82'C stat in plastic housing (that I broke off and used), bypass hose (original Ford item new from Caterham), new 90 degree (roughly 1m long) replacement hose used to connect header tank and hot side of the stat. I bought new Duratec water outlet and gasket from X-Power engines (1x M12x1.5, 1x 1/8 NPT, and a 90 degree 16mm knee on the bottom) as we wanted everything to be reversible. Plus it looks cool as it is billet and not cast. I've also changed the plenum gasket (has to be taken off) and put a new coolant into the engine as it needed to be drained.
  8. James, maybe there is a rotation with the fix mount as well - by flexing the whole chassis.
  9. Funny you should say that Mark, when it was dry, I havent seen you anywhere near.
  10. Nope, just the crap one on the dash. It felt plenty fast enough.
  11. Well done Mark, that's the spirit!! My green fatty did nearly 150mph at 5th gear down the back straight on Coastal circuit. The Marshall on top of the hill felt a bit uneasy as I was coming at him. An excellent day out and the car behaved.

Thanks for a useful tip - ordered. As doing regular track days I've been going through one a year. Shocking quality.
  13. Come on guys, so many Caterhams on the track at this fabulous location and not a single word of thanks?? What about some photos to share? Wake up!

  15. I'll have rear lights soon - upgrading to LEDs.

Thanks Mark, nothing to add. The car doesn't boil and when on the go and not nailing it, it holds a good stable water temp. Next step - upgrade the instruments and start looking at numbers properly.
  17. An absolutely splendid day, in my case the performance slightly modified in the rain by my worn ZZR tyres. Thanks to all organizing, overall a very pleasant day.
  18. Guys, we are turning in the circle here. The reason there was a pressure build up pushing the stat opened (possibly as the build in bypass flow was huge) was that Caterham hasn't built any permanent circuit in (one that would flow irrespective of what the stat is doing) which is usually through the heater and the header tank. Caterham decided to incorporate the permanent circuit into the cold return from the rad to the stat, that is why the car overcools under the regime of low -ish heat generation - the flow through the rad is out of control of the stat. Our modification eliminates all of this - we mimicked the intended flows through Duratec stat - permanent flow bypassing the stat is now coming from the header tank, bypass hose from the head water outlet goes to the hot side of the stat and the rad cold return goes to the cold side of the stat. It works, the end. Yesterday at Anglesey the car performed beautifully - set off at five in the morning (relatively chilly) and traveling westwards on the motorway doing 70-80 mph at 6th gear the water temp (my gauge seems to be quite accurate when checked against the Easymap ECU reading) was sat at 70'C. Slower traffic (40mph) the temp comes to 80'C. On the racetrack abusing it for 20min the temps stayed below 100'C. The crucial point here - we need to start measuring the engine oil temp. I'm in the process of sorting that out. Very happy with everything so far.
  19. Mark: Thankfully still warm. Anyway, I have 700ml (or thereabout) of gearbox oil left that I'm unlikely to use now as upgraded to Sadev. Millers Oils NanoDrive CRX 75W-90 NT+ GL4/GL5 - I used it for a 6 speed manual box. I'm happy to give it up for free if anyone coming to the trackday is interested. Let me know and I'll bring it along.

    620R cooling

Hi everyone, very pleased to report the results of today shakedown - I was changing the springs, so wanted to make sure it all works fine. The car drove flawlessly today for about two hours in all sorts of conditions - full beans, pottering along, stop and go traffic, sticking to the speed limit at economy (higher) gear. The water warms up quickly and throughout the drive the original Caterham gauge was reading between 70'C and 90'C. Very happy with the result, more on Monday after a track day. Just quick gearbox oil change tomorrow and the car is good to go. Softer springs effect - soooo much better, especially at the rear. Much better grip out of the corner.
  21. Remove the doors and put the half hood on.
