  1. Just back from test drive - Could not get it to mis behave at all. Re connected the Lambda and went round again with the same result - good as gold One thing I did do before leaving was on close inspection of the connections on the COP I noticed that the engine cover that goes over the top of them was rubbing on the corner of one of the connections. It had left a small tell tale sign of dust on the connection and a rub mark on the underside of the cover. This would have been pushing down on the end of the connector on the COP on the far end. Maybe just maybe, this rubbing caused some sort of oscillation or vibration that effected the connector and hence the circuit. To be on the safe side I added spacers to the cover to lift it off a couple of mm. So its fixed for now. I need to get back on track which will be the acid test and will try the lambda connector should I need too. Thanks for your help
  2. Thanks , I`ll give that a go. I read somewhere on here whilst researching the problem that the Lambda only works below 3k revs for emission control ??? If that is the case and I`m more than happy to be told otherwise it shouldnt make any difference higher up the rev range should it ?
  3. Hi Guys , my car has suddenly developed a curious misfire. It happened in the very hot weather. So much so that it was idling on 3 cylinders. Despite this , when on full throttle it would clear its throat and be fine. I cant replicate the misfire and a low speed start in 6th gear going to full throttle does not necessarily cause the misfire when car under max load So far I have new plugs , new petrol , cleaned air filter, balanced the Throttle Bodies and checked the lamda sensor wiring so no avail. Next step is to borrow a set of coil packs to swap over and see if it rectifies the problem instantly in which case I`ll invest in a new set of those too. So , if there is any kind soul out there near Kent , SE London or surrounds would kindly lend me some to test for 30 minutes Car is a R400 Duratec superlight with Throttle bodies
  4. Quoting Pendennis: Thanks for the advice Chris I was looking at my last race there, I still have my foot in going past start finish and the marshal post before Druids bridge, but seeing as light moves faster than sound I am surprised at their locations Haha. . I suppose technically the one situated on the rise up to Druids may get you on the way back down the other side too
  5. Quoting Pendennis: Blimey I am surprised, both those positions are arguably at points you lift. I was told there was three and after where you apply the power, I also believed there be one at a position you not mentioned 😬 Don't lift at these points or you want make Paddock Hill entry or once through there you won't make it up the hill to Druids. Both places are flat out 😬 You can short shift or back off but that ruins an already short lap IMHO
  6. Quoting Pendennis: Chris, reference Brands:- Are you sure the microphones are on the inside? 100% yes..... On the start finish gantry and at the marshals post as you rise up from paddock hill on the right ..... But shhhhhh.... Its a big secret !!!!
  7. I got black flagged at Brands last time out. The noise limit on the day was 102 static and 91 or 92 driveby. Mine is a standard R400D. They throw you out on the strength of a driveby infringement but do not test this prior to entering the track hence you have no idea how it will go once induction , wind direction and nearby traffic will effect it. Bare in mind that most of the circuits are right handed and the microphones are on the infield i.e. your exhaust is pointing straight at them !! I used a bent piece of metal jubilee clipped the end of the exhaust to direct the gases and noise at the back wheel rather than out sideways and it made a 2 decibel difference on the static test. To be on the safe side , I stick to noisy 105 decibel days as its too much to risk and hassle trying to be quiet.
  8. ...and what did you find ? or didnt you find ? The control module looks like this : http://www.aceserve.co.uk/new04/images/smaxmovie66.gif
  9. Do you have the control panel just under the dashboard ? Maybe a loose connection
  10. I had a dry carbon rear view mirror on my aeroscreen that looked a bit "milky". Gave it a wipe with WD40 and it came up lovely
  11. You could make it Open Pit if you pay 3 times 😬
  12. Quoting 7 wonders of the world: If its mapped correctly it should not be lumpy or poppy on TB's, you should get excellent light throttle response and driveability, I'd check if your on the latest map from CC or book a session with two Steve's who can remap the MBE (Assuming your on MBE that is) Probably bad choice of words on my part as I was comparing it to a normal run of the mill car where you dont even know the engine is switched on Personally I love the popping and banging on the overrun 😬 Quoting mav: *remapping not done by or authorised by CC *may* invalidate any warranty claim you have if there is an issue with your engine. Indeed. I have an engine warranty for 1 year which was negotiated at point of sale so will not be doing any of that for a while
  13. Quoting Silverback: Quoting chris956: Was the car or has the car ever had a geo done ?? No, brand new new - I plan to do a couple of driver training days and track days to establish a 'baseline' and then likely get the geo done so I can understand the difference and how I might want to go from there. I was the same a couple of months ago. New to me but in the service history I had some evidence of a geo check. I have left it to see how I get on and people have suggested flat floor etc etc but I have got used to it tramlining probably due to the tyres. If yours is brand new, might be worth making sure that at least all 4 wheels are pointing in the right direction. If your anywhere near Orpington feel free to pop over and compare notes or have a go in mine. I can comment on your overrun issue as mine is fitted with throttle bodies so lumpy and poppy on the overrun but smooth at the top of the revs.
  14. Normal running I see between 80-100 depending on outside temp. Car stays nearer 80 when on motorway type roads or very cold day. Track days it creeps over the 100 when pressing on. Windscreen washer can be fixed with an inline restrictor from halfrauds. You diff should be BMW and they are noisy and clonky - just about getting use to mine. Reverse light is also a simple fix. Was the car or has the car ever had a geo done ??
  15. Brimmed it yesterday and had an "exciting" drive to and from Brands. No sign of petrol from the breather in the bottle and no sign of petrol leaking past the rubbers Perhaps it was just fitted together badly in the 1st place. Hey ho , another 5 minute job jobbed
  16. Quoting Ian B: Chris, The fuel breather pipe mod is detailed in a tech note from Caterham. If you want to take a look there's a copy of it in my dropbox here Cheers Ian .. I had a look and my breather does a similar route although the "double back" is not as extreme and I presume that is now why a one way valve is fitted. Quoting prangerman: Chris I had a similar problem a few years ago on my S3. Lifting the breather tube a few cm and securing it cured the problem. Peter Yes , cheers Pete. I have reassembled with the end in a half litre bottle so it will be easy to check if it is coming out of the breather or by passing the rubber tubes for refuelling or overflow. Watch this space 😬
  17. Quoting Myles: If the breather didn't exist, the fuel pump would sucky-sucky until it could sucky-sucky no more (like trying to drink wine from a bottle without a breath). So, the breather should let air in (to prevent a vacuum) - but not let fuel out (e.g. When you corner left, hard - or roll the car!) Thats makes perfect sense and the conclusion I came too when I took myself into the dunce corner for 5 minutes I have re seated the rubbers and as a test, run the end of the breather into a seethrough water bottle so I can check on it next time.
  18. Hi all , started to get a smell of petrol last couple of fill ups and have started to investigate today..... On inspection the rear off side wheel arch shows signs of leakage on the trailing edge. Just above this I found the end of the breather pipe. Hold that thought. I then took out the boot floor to see small signs of petrol residue ( could be vapour ) around the bottom of both rubbers , the fuel filler and the overflow. On inspection both rubbers are integral with no splits , holes or tears. This leads me to think that the breather pipe may be letting petrol out of it. Now here is the question .... Having got hold of the breather pipe and blowing down the end of it, I can hear air escaping out of the fuel filler cap. Now when I try to suck and replicate the petrol coming out, the one way valve halfway down the pipe shuts and stops me mid flow which leads to the question : Should the breather pipe be allowed to let air into or out of the petrol tank ? If it is the former - how is the petrol leaking out ???
  19. Quoting MadCat52: OK, I did have a sticker on and needed it judging by the number of cars that passed me (see and ). Apart from the lack of talent, I seemed to suffering from a lack of grip (ZV3s) and grunt (fat bloke in an SV!). So newbie question to POBC 😶‍🌫️, I was running standard unleaded petrol, would it have been worth running through a couple of tankfuls of the higher octane super unleaded before the track day for a bit more grunt? Bob No, save your cash. Tighten up your lines and braking points for an immediate improvement and then when more confident you can look at stickier rubber
  20. Just to add that the application in Low Flying states 105db static . The MSV website states 101db static and 92 drive by which is the same as was on Tuesday night and the Duratec cars were just over that and were black flagged

    ZZR Tyres

Quoting Culminator: Price difference is about £50 a set more for the ZZRs. That's based on a cracking deal on AO48 s at £378 a set. I can confirm that £378 is about right for a set of AO48r`s in 13inch INCLUDING vat. Are we saying that ZZR`s are £50 more per set still including vat ?

    ZZR Tyres

Whats the difference in price between a ZZR and a AO48r ?
  23. Quoting Mankee: Good point, Chris. I had assumed that it's 20 mins per hour. But if it's £300 for a full day session at Brands GP, I suspect Merrick will have no limbs left once the booking forms are out! Edit: I couldn't find it via the MSV site, but the event (open to Joe Public) is linked below: http://www.clubmsv.com/car-home/event-details.aspx?productid=2335 Edited by - Mankee on 2 Jun 2014 09:08:48 I spoke to Merrick yesterday at Brands so hope he doesn't mind me posting as he is very busy. The club has bought one 20 minute session per hour plus some garages for the whole day. Non 7s are not allowed but can be booked onto the day via MSV as the remaining 2 twenty minute sessions per hour are open to the general public. Hope that makes sense Edited by - chris956 on 4 Jun 2014 13:34:09
  24. I think it wise to now pack some sort of baffle or diffuser for the exhaust for a duratec car. Most uk circuits are right handed and therefore the drive by noise metres are going to be the majority of the time on the right handside i.e. on the inside of the circuit. Always found it strange that passing a static test allows you access to the circuit but a drive by test gets you banned. How are you supposed to know how loud your car is under proper load at whatever distance you happen to be from a hidden (cough cough) noise meter until you are shown the nasty black ?
