  1. I used some when I removed the trim an it didn't seem to affect it, however, I was quite paranoid and put a minimal amount on and didn't leave it for long. Just long enough to soften the silicon.
  2. I will try tomorrow morning. Thanks Guys.
  3. This is the offending item. (sigma engine) If I manually move it to its maximum position then it sticks. It also doesn't feel smooth when moving it. I'm sure that it isn't the cable. I'll see if WD40 helps.
  4. My throttle is sticky and gets stuck when on full throttle. It's not the cable but rather the spring on the throttle body. Can anyone suggest how to loosen this? This is a recent issue. It has been fine for 9 months but I haven't used it that much recently. When I last used it, it got stuck open while overtaking someone, which was fun! thanks
  5. Caterham IVA'd my sigma. 112 miles on the clock which is about right for a trip from Crawley to Gillingham and back.
  6. Thanks all. I suppose I'm looking for an excuse to put it on axle stands and tinker. I'm missing the fun of the build. I'll just put it on axle stands and check the items mentioned above.
  7. I have done a 1000 miles since my build. The car was serviced at around 500 miles by Caterham but I am thinking of doing another check. Any suggestions or what I should be checking, if at all?
  8. Ok, I'll give it a go by hand. Probably a silly question but is a remover likely to damage the paint?
  9. Now that my car ha passed its iva, I want to remove the iva trim from around the front suspension because I didn't do a very good job. What is the best way to remove the silicon from the paint work?
  10. Thanks DJ - very interesting solution
  11. Anyone got some pics of there solutions?
  12. Sounds like you are having issues similar to me, although mine was a sigma engine. The car would turn over and all the other electrics worked. I checked all the wiring and earthing, but no joy. It turned over but it just wouldn't fire. It turned out to be ECU related and the unit had to be replaced at the PBC. It may be worth checking with Derek to see if this is a possible cause. I can't wait to see these 160s finished!
  13. The instruction manual says to add 15 litres. Could that be it?
  14. Whoever had "faulty ecu control unit" please step forward and collect your prize. I'm very relieved that it wasn't "sorry sir, you really have no ideas what you're doing, why did you even attempt this" (even if that is true). I don't know much more than that at the moment but apparently it did pass its IVA today. What I didn't realise is that the dvla claim it takes 7-10 days to post out the forms required for registration. I probably should have looked into that sooner!!
  15. Out of sight, out of mind...for the moment at least. The car is having its IVA next Friday and Caterham are submitting it, so it's up to them to get it working in time. Don't get me wrong, I am very interested in the reason why it doesn't start but since I can do the square root of b*gger all about it, there is no point stressing. I'll contact them at some point next week to see what is happening and wait patiently for a response, then chase them for an answer.
  16. They have agreed to remove the fuel tank earth. It is taking them quite a while to come back to me on some of the other bits.
  17. Ha ha, that took a while Jonathan. Thanks Olly, good to know.
  18. They haven't started it yet. I'm still waiting for them to come back to me on that.
  19. Thanks for the links, Jonathan. Caterham want to charge me for the pleasure of attaching the earth. I waiting for them to come back to me regarding a few other points before we get into the cost conversation. I can't wait for that ...
  20. The car is finally went back to Caterham last week. They came back to me with a couple of point today. One of which is that the fuel tank earth wire isn't connected. I assume this is a very likely candidate for the starting issues. Can anyone tell me where this wire is located? I can't find any reference to it and not having the car obviously means I can't take a look. They are telling me that I should have applied heat shrink to the engine/engine bay wiring. I have asked for clarification, but has anyone got any thoughts on what this might be? From the manual, the only reference I can find is for the repeater wiring, which I applied Also, for one reason or another I didn't get the seats bolted in before it was picked up. They have quoted an hour to do the bolts up. Seems a bit excessive to me?
  21. Single en bloc garage for rent - pm me for details/photos
  22. Thanks Martin, I will check them out. All the earth wires were pre attached to the bulkhead by caterham but I'll double check them. Last night I took the inertia switch apart and tested that; it all appears to be working. Someone has also suggested a couple of tests on the crank position sensor. First, to check the resistance which is ok, and second, to check the voltage when the engine is cranking. I attached the multimeter to the sensor pins and cranked the engine but nothing registered. Is this a valid test?
  23. Hi All, Apologies for the lack of response - all work and no play at the moment. Thank you all for your input, but, no joy so far. Not much more to add really. I spent a couple of hours yesterday going over all the connections again and pulled out all the sensors again, and checked no connections on the starter motor are touching any of the surrounding metal. I was convienced that it's an earthing issue but adding another earth from the battery to the bulk head didn't make a difference. So, basically, i'm back to square one, although I don't actually think I got very far away from square one in the first place. Not sure what's next on the list and i'm hitting my technical limit. Anyone know a local witch doctor? ChrisC - I have sent you a PM Bob L - Sorry to have caused you and your family so much distress. Is neighbours still ok TV? Chris
  24. Thanks Chris - PM sent Nillbymounth, thanks for the tip, but no joy unfortunately. Chris
  25. Caterham sent me EP80W-90 as part of my first fill package for use on the BMW LSD.
