Quoting 6speedmanual: Quoting cb4798: I spoke to Derek today..........
The supersports are generally supplied without the extensions so that the ride height is lower for the track.............. The extensions are added to increase the ride height but also help with the gap issue.
Is this what CC the OEM are giving out over the phone???
The extensions are for wide track to make the spring damper assembly long enough for the longer wishbones, specifically the lower one to which it attaches. I do not understand the statement about making the ride height lower for the track. If the spacer was left out, the sump would be pretty much resting on the ground.
Never a problem to get a low enough ride height with the spacer in place.
There is still plenty of scope to raise the ride height should one desire but the more the lower wishbones are away from horizontal (sloping down towards the wheels) the more compromised the front geometry.
eta: Also without the spacer the max bump and drop positions are compromised. Even if the ride height is set to whichbones level using the adjustable platforms, the operating travel range is changed. At full bump the sump will be much closer to the road (bang?) and at full rebound the front wheels will not have as much droop meaning the inside front wheel in a turn will lift off the tarmac sooner as its downward travel is limited.
The turned ali spacer shown in photos in Scpwler's post above is better than no spacer but looks shorter than the specified spacer. I agree it looks nice but should be made to match the height of the factory spacer.
Unless CC have totally redesigned the front spring/damper assembly recently? Which I doubt.

I have been looking around at all the various pictures available on the web and even thought about going back to Caterham South to look at the cars there. I have seen them with the extension, without the extension and without the extension with the dampers upside down. It's pretty confusing (to me) and since I am very new to this the approach I am taking is that there must be loads of people who own a supersport and haven't bothered with the extension, and are therefore running the cars without a problem. I am going to attach the extensions and wait until the car is on it's wheels before I make any firm decisions about whether they are required or not.

Chris (CB4798) I would be interested to know how you get on when setting up the rear damper units. The adjustable platforms on mine ended up right at the bottom after setting the height to approx 15mm Higher than the front. With the rear end jacked up (full droop) the springs drop out of the top seats. I looked for another slot to allow me to move the circlip that the platform sits on but the only other slot moved it too far the other way. I don't think it is a big issue for me as I don't go mad over bridges etc. I noticed another thread mentioned helper springs are an option. It does seem as though CC are very relaxed about the correct length of the dampers all round.
I'll let you know how I get on but it might take a while. I have been playing with the front suspension for a couple weeks now.
