  1. Thanks. I have asked Caterham to confirm. Hopefully, they say the same as you. Fingers crossed!!
  2. I have been thinking about that. The supersport I looked at yesterday didn't have that breather bottle attached so I assumed it wasn't required. Back to the drawing board then!!
  3. So, I popped into Caterham South today and had a chat with a very helpful technician. He answered all my question - the manual is so wrong it's pretty much unusable for this part of the build. Caterham get it so right in many ways and so wrong in others!!
  4. Thanks Mark/Tom, Thanks for the offers. Tom, PM sent. I'm going to try popping into Caterham South today and see if I can have a look around an engine bay. Chris
  5. Yes, but it doesn't appear to be much use for this.
  6. Hi, I am attempting to route all the cooling pipes around the engine but am somewhat confused by the manual. If anyone has a cooling diagram or a picture of their engine bay, that would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris
  7. Could you let Caterham know this, please. Based on what they sent me as part of my kit, they are not aware of this.
  8. I was looking through some of the archives and the hyperlinks are no longer hyperlinks I can give examples if needed.
  9. Thanks, I will give them a try.
  10. I have managed to put copper grease on a bolt that I should have used loctite on (Don't ask how/why). Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to remove the grease from inside the bolt hole?
  11. Inserting a flat head screwdriver and twisting did the job although the outer metal on the flange suffered some what as a result. Thanks for all the tips.
  12. Quoting Pugwash: The arrow is in the right place but I don't think it was the thin metal bit I levered against. You don't need the flange anyway so don't worry, but I did not bend mine when it popped out. Can't recall exactly what it looked like when in the diff but if you BM me I can send you a few pics of what it looks like when removed which should help. BM sent
  13. Thanks for all you tips. Could someone confirm that I should be separating the flange where the arrow is in the photo I'm sure that it's going to damage the flange when I apply some force so I wanted to check first. measure twice and cut once etc etc...
  14. Thanks All. Yes, it is a new build. Ok, I will try a bigger lever. Chris
  15. I think its a BMW diff now, but i'm not 100% sure.
  16. Hi All, Any tips for removing the flanges from the diff? I'm pretty sure if I wrench it much harder the whole chassis is going come off the axle stands. Should it be this hard? Lsd, s3 Thanks
  17. I'm really enjoying the process and I'm sure that i'll know the car inside out by the end. I wouldn't swap it for any supercar.
  18. Quoting 6speedmanual: Quoting cb4798: I spoke to Derek today.......... The supersports are generally supplied without the extensions so that the ride height is lower for the track.............. The extensions are added to increase the ride height but also help with the gap issue. Is this what CC the OEM are giving out over the phone??? The extensions are for wide track to make the spring damper assembly long enough for the longer wishbones, specifically the lower one to which it attaches. I do not understand the statement about making the ride height lower for the track. If the spacer was left out, the sump would be pretty much resting on the ground. Never a problem to get a low enough ride height with the spacer in place. There is still plenty of scope to raise the ride height should one desire but the more the lower wishbones are away from horizontal (sloping down towards the wheels) the more compromised the front geometry. eta: Also without the spacer the max bump and drop positions are compromised. Even if the ride height is set to whichbones level using the adjustable platforms, the operating travel range is changed. At full bump the sump will be much closer to the road (bang?) and at full rebound the front wheels will not have as much droop meaning the inside front wheel in a turn will lift off the tarmac sooner as its downward travel is limited. The turned ali spacer shown in photos in Scpwler's post above is better than no spacer but looks shorter than the specified spacer. I agree it looks nice but should be made to match the height of the factory spacer. Unless CC have totally redesigned the front spring/damper assembly recently? Which I doubt. Peter Edited by - 6speedmanual on 28 Jul 2014 23:48:01 I have been looking around at all the various pictures available on the web and even thought about going back to Caterham South to look at the cars there. I have seen them with the extension, without the extension and without the extension with the dampers upside down. It's pretty confusing (to me) and since I am very new to this the approach I am taking is that there must be loads of people who own a supersport and haven't bothered with the extension, and are therefore running the cars without a problem. I am going to attach the extensions and wait until the car is on it's wheels before I make any firm decisions about whether they are required or not. Quoting scowler: Chris (CB4798) I would be interested to know how you get on when setting up the rear damper units. The adjustable platforms on mine ended up right at the bottom after setting the height to approx 15mm Higher than the front. With the rear end jacked up (full droop) the springs drop out of the top seats. I looked for another slot to allow me to move the circlip that the platform sits on but the only other slot moved it too far the other way. I don't think it is a big issue for me as I don't go mad over bridges etc. I noticed another thread mentioned helper springs are an option. It does seem as though CC are very relaxed about the correct length of the dampers all round. I'll let you know how I get on but it might take a while. I have been playing with the front suspension for a couple weeks now.
  19. Thanks Mankee. I assumed some kind of date but wasn't sure if that was the case or how it would be decoded.
  20. Can anyone tell me if the 33/13 and the 11/14 actually mean anything on these springs? photo
  21. Hi Tom, I'd rather have the damper extensions than not. The car is mainly going to be used on the road to start with and its nice to have the option to take them off at a later date. That thread about the smashed sump has put me off as well. Caterham put a manual in the post yesterday. Chris
  22. I spoke to Derek today. Much easier than email. I have the correct dampers but there are a few different ways Caterham fit them depending on the setup requirement. As pendenis mentioned they are generally fitted upside down for a race setup but in order to get through the IVA they need to be the correct way up. The supersports are generally supplied without the extensions so that the ride height is lower for the track. Once the car is on its wheels the gap between the spring and the bolt should increase to an acceptable level. The extensions are added to increase the ride height but also help with the gap issue. Caterham are going to send me some new dampers with the extensions so problem solved.
  23. Yes, it is a supersport but not the 'R', its the sigma version. I will go back to Caterham again with some photos I have of other supersports with the extensions. I don't think it will look right if its fitted the wrong way. Thanks again for you help Chris
  24. The reply from Caterham this morning is that I have the correct dampers but Caterham fit them upside down to allow more clearance. I can't wait to take out that top bolt again.
