Alex Wong1697456877
I hate driving in the wet. I've tried 021's and CR500's and they're ok but at best, they were at the good end of crap. I tried some ancient worn out Avon cut wets (oldfashioned wet tread cut slicks) at Brands a few years ago and they were MILES better than the CR500's - I assume because they are soft enough to generate heat, even in the wet. So I think I'd like to invest in a set of dedicated wet weather track tyres - what's good?
andy couchman
Ask Avon's technical people. From memory they can be quite helpful. Think they're based in Melksham. Or try George Polley? Andy
frankyknuckles
Alex, can you let us all know what you end up getting. I've also considered this but not had time to look into it www.R300.net

rgrigsby
A quick call to Avon Racing on 01225357694 should answer the question, I think they do ACB0's which are quite good.... not 100% sure though. Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
ben7
Alex, I bought a set of part worn wets from George Polley at £30 a boot. They are Avons but I can't remember the exact type. They really are very good in the wet and certainly worth the investment. If GP can't help you, try Jason at Protyre on 01782 791 739. fatcat
what size wheels have you got ? if same as an R400 then the race wets that they used last year were excellent.(this year they use CR500's) The new CSR race wets are also excellent - Avon will be able to tell you what wheels sizes can handle them. regards fc
Alex Wong1697456877
I have a set of 6x13's and some 8x13's as well. Are the new CSR wets too wide to go on a 8 inch wheel? I'd have thought narrow tyres were better in the wet. Edited by - Alex Wong on 14 Jul 2005 16:25:
Mike Bees
Up to a point I guess. The front is more prone to aquaplaning than the rear, so not-too-wide fronts would seem to be a good idea. Mike
micksmetafors
Alex, I used to run Avon A9's in the modsports days but don't run them in anyhting other than wet conditions. 2-3 laps in the drying/dry and they've had it. fantastically quick warm up though. Tight fart
The best ones are the dearest ones, because the more you have spent on wets, the less likely it is to rain ! A7 RDP pics here

Alias
. The front is more prone to aquaplaning than the rear, so not-too-wide fronts would seem to be a good idea. But in my experience, braking hard in the wet, the rears lose traction first as they are more prone to aquaplaning under braking (as the weight is on the front tyres). Spinning off the track (in my case Llandow) because the rears are aquaplaning is a scary situation (as you can't correct it with opposite lock!) ----------------------------------------------------------------- 1400 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings
Alex Wong1697456877
Very scary - happened at Brands between Hawthorns and Westfield in heavy rain - span too many times for me to count - and VERY quickly - literally snapped into a spin without warning. Suspect it was power induced and aquaplaning all at the same time. I've not fully recovered my nerve for wet driving since.
