Indicator beeper

Recommended Posts

Dave,

It's built into the loom under the dash. Small (about 10mm dia) round black plastic thingy. No idea whether it will stop the indicators working if you snip one of the wires though. I guess you could cut both and connect them together and that might work.

Probably quite hard to see/find without removing the scuttle.

Usual caveats.

Ah that beeper *mad*!

As the steering wheel on my car is too small for my daughter to turn at low speeds without going to a gym several times a week I hired a car from Caterham for her birthday a few weeks ago.

Normally she's quite demure... after not too many turnings we were both shouting 'that bl**dy beeping is driving me nuts!'

Take a chainsaw to it Dave 😬 😬 😬

Brrrrrrrrr..... *cool*

V7,

Introduced on later models than your car. My 2001 Academy car didn't have it but the new loom I bought last november (2003) does. And when I finally get my current car on the road I'm sure the beeper will be thoroughly irritating.

NOOOOOO... DO NOT CUT THEM AND JOIN THE TWO ENDS TOGETHER. You will blow the fuse when you operate the indicators as you will have just joined +12v to earth. Simply snip ONE of the wires to the beeper and tape the cut ends out of the way.

*eek* Can't seem to find beeper

traced niose back to fuse box, the thingy that seems to make the niose appears to be the black box behind the fuse for indicator 🤔 🤔 🤔

problem solved

see for sale section " MOMO QUICK RELEASE WHEEL"

OK, give up *mad*

I've just spent 20 minutes upside down with my head in first the passenger and then the driver's footwell.

Despite hearing that da*mn beep from apparently everywhere, I still can't find the said "little black thing" *mad* *mad*

In order to save my poor bent back from any more punishment, could I request a little more descriptive information?

What colour wires go to it and which instrument/switch is nearest?

Any further assistance would be greatly appreciated.

still slightly dizzy

Ron,

It's about 3-4 inches to the right (looking forwards) of the centre line closely tied into the main bundle the wiring loom. If it happens to be on top of the bundle or wires then no amount of contortionism will let you see it (without removing the scuttle). Try running your fingers along the bundle.

If that doesn't work I expect to have my scuttle off again later tonight (or maybe tromorrow evening) and can give a more precise location and wire colours.

Simply wire it in parallel to the dashboard indicator light. Some beepers are directional (ie: one side is + and one side -). You should be able to make out which side of the indicator light is connected to ground. It just won't work the wrong way round if it is directional.

Right, update on the precise position. Having installed a new loom into my car the beeper sits in the main bundle above the right hand side of the wiper switch. I can't tell the wire colours as they are heat shrinked and this disappears into the bundle.

I can say that it's very hard to find just by feeling under the dash but easy to spot witht he scuttle off.

Steve,

Thanks a lot for the description, I'll probably have another go this evening (depending on how we do in Portugal!).

Jan, I've had my SV just over a year, and the beeper gets more annoying not less ☹️

cheers

Ron

  • 12 years later...

Sorry for the thread resurrection from over 10 years ago, but does anyone have any pictures of more detail on the beepers location?

Its been driving me crazy of my new Superlight Twenty, it's getting to be so annoying I am trying not to use the indicatiors at all, so it needs to be silenced!

As per this threads, and advice on Pistonheads too, I have searched for the beeper all under the dash but can not find it anywhere.

i have taken the Rev counter, speedo and washer and wiper switches out, as some people say it makes it easier to locate it, all to no avail.

Its made harder by the fact that the noise is so high pitched, it seems to come from everywhere under the dash, but not a place that's easy to identify!

So if anyone has any tips on how to find it, or silence it any way, they would be most appreciated.
