Pedal Pivot Bracket and Master Cylinders bracket

Recommended Posts

I’m working on a 1986 Caterham BDR. Attached are pictures of the bracket for the pedals to pivot on and the master cylinders to attach to. The car originally came with a cable operated clutch but I’m changing it to a hydraulic release bearing. If you notice, one of the tabs where the clutch master cylinder should mount has been cut off. Does anyone have a bracket like this or know of where I can get one. I thought about welding a piece on but this metal doesn’t look like a good alloy to weld. I can try that as a last resort but I thought I would try to find one first. Thanks in advance

How about fabricating an L-shaped bracket that picks up on two good holes and provides a fourth? With appropriate variations in thickness it would then all bolt up in compression.

But is there anything that suggests why the tab was removed?

Hey Jonathan! Thanks for your response. At first I thought that it would be possible to do that. After investigation it appears the cross section of the material in that area would probably weaken considerably if I tried that. I do have full capability of making a completely new one but it will require a good bit of time and I thought if I could find one I would buy it instead. Like you, I’m baffled as to where this tab was cut off. My car was never really finished and only has 31 miles on it so I can’t imagine why it got cut off.

Looks like the hacksaw mod is appropriate as it says "Pedal Bracket - Later Cars -------- Ford 100E 2471 with one side removed". Assume the use of a clutch cable required that to be done, as opposed to being used for a slave cylinder mount.

Hi Wayne, I have just had a look at this bracket on my 1982 Caterham, and it is as yours is, but the saw marks have been tidied up, possibly the one you have was original on a Ford, and cut down to replicate the Caterham item.

Hi Wayne - I'm sorry, but life has got in the way and I haven't been able to get to the workshop, hopefully this weekend. It is indeed a Ford 100E part and you can sometimes get them second-hand from old Ford specialists, though I think the cross bar piece might be different - mine doesn't have that fitted so you'd need to swap it across from yours. Mike Brotherwood does have one listed on his For Sale page so you could give him a call if you're in big hurry http://www.mikebrotherwood.com/ForSale.html though as I say I should be able to get down to my workshop this weekend.

Last one I saw for sale was £125 mind you, so I think I'd want £100 for mine if that doesn't scare you off...

Cheers

Paul

Thanks everyone for you responses. I did contact Redline and Chris has the part and it’s 125 lbs. I’m in the US and I’m not sure how to get the real pounds sterling symbol to type. Anyway he has it, I ordered it and hopefully that resolves my problem. It’s good to hear that a lot of you saw the same mod on this bracket during that time period.

I also checked with Chris on a lowered left side floor pan. I’m still fighting to get more room for my left leg while lifting it to put it on the clutch pedal. My leg just about 3’ or 4” above the knee makes contact with the bottom edge of the panel making it difficult to get my foot up on the clutch pedal. I know I could have fabricated one but this will speed things up and eliminate questions. I still have a ways to go but I’m getting there.

But I liked the workaround.  : - )

Thanks Jonathan, as you can imagine, we don’t have much need for the symbol here in the US but working on a Caterham it’s a necessity to know. I truly appreciate your help with this. £ £ £ Thanks

I ordered the brake pedal/master cylinder bracket from Chris at Redline along with a lowered left side floor pan for my car. Both arrived quite quickly. Very happy with their service and their parts. He will be my go to guy from now one. Great folks!

Checked the floor pan last nigh. Unfortunately the floor pan doesn’t fit. I’m finding out that a 1986 S3 Caterham with DeDion is an odd ball.It was worth a try but it looks like I’ll be engineering my own.

Is it not that the lowered floors are for the later 96 on chassis? Didn’t think lowered floors were a thing back when the tunnel was the curved ally type
