David_Stamp
I am planning to add a map pocket to the passenger side. Thinking about avoiding any cables or pipes running inside the tunnel, is it better to add the map pocket to the passenger left side trim panel rather than drilling into the tunnel wall? What have others done?
Area Representative Iain McCallum Posted January 26, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted January 26, 2023 I got the Soft Bits for Sevens Tunnel Bag, which did the trick for me.
David_Stamp
I did consider a tunnel bag but have chosen to go the map pocket route instead.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted January 26, 2023 Member Share Posted January 26, 2023 "I got the Soft Bits for Sevens Tunnel Bag, which did the trick for me."I use one of those. It's held in place by four metal hooks that go under the edge of the tunnel cover.JonathanEdited: Crossed posts.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 26, 2023 Leadership Team Share Posted January 26, 2023 To answer the original question ... you can add it in either location, the wiring and pipe work in the tunnel predominately passes along the upper tunnel driver's side (RH) chassis tube. Decide on the exact position from being sat in the passenger seat, map pockets can be really annoying if your knee is pressed against one all the time.Stu. David_Stamp
Stu - thanks - exactly what I needed to know and very good advice.
SM25T
If in doubt, pop the tunnel top off and look.
StevehS3
I use the Velcro hook attached to the map pocket. It sticks very well to carpet (assuming you have it!)
Andy Doughty
It's also easier to reach the maps from the drivers seat if it's on the tunnelCheers
grumpy the 7th
Which ever side you feel comfortable with. As SM25T above if using self tappers or pop rivets either take the tunnel top off or use a strong magnet to determine where the chassis rails are before drilling. My tunnel top is a pain to remove due to me designing the intercom sockets in a junction box on the back panel just above the tunnel should have placed it higher Replacing the gear box saddle took 1/2 a day just removing plugs & wires me
KnifeySpoony
Velcro if carpet, double sided tape if not. That would be my vote.

David_Stamp
Thank you for all the good advice. Have now purchased a Softbits tunnel bag (the basic one) plus will add a net on the LHS of the passenger footwell for things I don't need while actually driving
