allegro
Asking for a coleague. Anything special in this or just a trip to Halfrauds and buy a Mk1/MK2 escort filter ? Also any comments on best oil for the job. It is standard engine 105bhp. Mineral ? Sinthetic ? Andy Mac C7 GON 😬 Team Langoustine. Dave H
I used to get mine (oil filters) from the local motor factors - cheaper than Halfrauds, and the man behind the counter knew what he was selling. As for oil - nothing too expensive for a crossflow, it only leaks out later . Seriously, unless the engine is a special, a reasonable "low tech" multigrade will be fine. Chris K
a std Xflow will want 'soup'.. so either 15/50 or 20/50.. Castrol GTX 15/40 or the like will just pi55 out everywhere. Chris Now, Beakie, we'll just flip this switch and 60,000 refreshing volts of electricity will surge through your body. Ready?.. Graham Sewell
Strange, 15W/40 is the recommended spec for the Caterham supplied cross flow and I have never had any problem with it p*ssing out from anywhere. As it goes, I have been using Castrol Magnatec Advanced for older engines which is the 15W/40 spec and seems to work very well. However, YMMV. Low tech luddite - xflow and proud! Peter T
Champion C104, a good filter for X-flows. Power Freak member!
puremalt
Yup, agree with the filter. I have a Valvoline synthetic 10W 40 which made the car a hell of a lot quieter interestingly. It also does not pi55 out everywhere unless I overfill it or don't renew the rocker cover gasket when doing the tappetts... ahem.. Took it to work today, Yahoo!!! Terry Field
The Halfrauds does the job, is easily sourced and doesn't cost a fortune. I used to use Mobil 1 synthetic 5-40 on my xflow but this year changed to same but 15-40. Only difference seems to be better pressure when hot at low revs/tickover. And the engine is completely oil tight! Terry Trying to get out of the garage
