Nose cone grill refresh

Hi all

Any tips for refreshing a nose cone grill showing a bit of rust? Is it just a matter of sanding it down, priming and repainting? I don't have a sand blaster.

Couldn't find this advice on a search of the forum.

I need to do this as well. Might even try and colour the "7" in red for a bit of glamour! My car also seems to have some mesh fitted in front of the grille, is this normal or a DIY fitment do you think?

I fitted mesh to my 1995 k series to protect the rad, its factory fitted now on my 2014 sigma

The mesh can be fitted in front of or behind the 7.

Mesh behind for me. I painted red 7 with brush applied red smoothrite

For cars with a separate grille and mesh, the mesh is fitted in front of the "7" in order to meet IVA requirements.  I think many owners then move it behind.

I used Tetrosyl Trade sprays on my S3 integrated grille.  I sprayed the "7" in red and then, when it was dry, masked it off and sprayed the grille in black.

There was a member who's name I have forgotten    who made laser cut Ti grills, a really nice piece of kit, then I used hexagonal mesh painted black behind it.

Some of the 7 grilles are plasticoted and getting paint to securely bind is a challenge. Its not difficult to get the plastic off to get back to metal when standard painting guidelines apply

I just gave the grille a wipe over and painted it with Black Hammerite. I did the same thing for the 7 but roughly colour matched it to the main bodywork and moved it behind the grille as I think it looks better with a sort of shaded/smoked effect.

EDIT: Just reread some of the other posts. What I call a grille most others call mesh. What others call a grille I call a 7.
