pat1
Doing the Curborough sprints end of August. My extinguiser (car is ex academy) is well out of date, including bottle- Am I still right in thinking you don't need an extinguisher for hillclimbs/sprints, or am I showing how long it is since I competed? And gloves-requirement or optional? Looking forward to it though Many thanks
garybee
I think the rules have changed. Although you still don't need one I believe that if you have one it now needs to be in date. I'm sure a current competitor will be along to confirm but I think you'll either need to replace the cylinder or remove it.
Alan Bowler
You need FIA approved gloves.
pat1
Yeah, that is my understanding-couldn't find specifics in Blue Book- was always easier when there was a paper version. It is currently out, and I will cover the pull toggle to remove any ambiguity, but don't want to turn up and find I need one. Comp Sec
Gary is right, Extinguishers are only recommended: "10.2.14. Fire Extinguishers – K.3.1.2(a) recommended for discharge into cockpit and engine compartment."But if fitted it should be working and in date. Comp Sec
Just found this in the general safety regulations which confirms that your extinguisher must work if fitted.3.3. During events: 3.3.1. All plumbed-in extinguisher systems must be in an ‘ARMED’ condition (i.e. be capable of being operated without the removal of any safety device) at all times whilst competing or practising in races or speed events (including during post- event scrutineering), and at all times that crash helmets are worn on rallies (i.e. on Stages etc.). 3.3.2. Any plumbed-in extinguisher system found to be incapable of being operated will be the subject of a report to the Clerk of the Course/Stewards for possible penalty as an offence against Safety Regulations. Area Representative Richard Price Posted August 15, 2020 Area Representative Share Posted August 15, 2020 "pat1", couldn't find specifics in Blue Book- was always easier when there was a paper version It's worth knowing that the paper copy of the blue book is still published, and once you've paid for a comp license, availiable free of charge. It just takes an email to MSUK.
Dobson_justin
My car came with an extinguisher that was not working properly. I had it serviced and refilled for £45, and now it is in working order again, so probably worth considering just getting it sorted if you can. pat1
Thanks for the help.I will get (a) a replacement extinguisher--my bottle is over 10 years old, so my understanding is that it is beyond use date.(b) I will get 'proper' printed Blue book.I think working out what the best option for sprints is my next task, hopefully get one with the same fittings--that would be too easy though.
