Paul Oggelsby
Evening, Can anyone please help, the speedo has stopped working, there is power to the digital odometer still but it’s stopped increasing mileage. It’s a 2019 420r, Duratek.thanks
John Vine
First of all, check the sender (adjacent to the outer end of the RH driveshaft). If the wiring is intact, it may be that the air gap is too small or too large. Have a look at this technical guide (Speedometers).JV
BigCol
Given the age of your car, would hope it isn’t a faulty sensor, the earth mod that was recommended for old cars but the sensor gap, which is notorious... but easy to fix (lots of articles on here)
Paul Oggelsby
Thanks for the advice, I'll focus on the sensor

Paul Oggelsby
Yes, that is my fallback, just a pain to get it to Caterham Silverstone, had a few teething issues.

Paul Oggelsby
Had the wheel off and with ignition on couldn’t see any light coming from sensor, changed the air gap and still no joy. Any idea where the fuse is for it?

John Vine
Have you tested for a 12v supply at the sensor (green wire in the loom connector)?...couldn’t see any light coming from sensor,...If you have the new-style sensor with the plastic mount, the LED may not be immediately visible as it can be somewhat hidden by the mount. You could try loosening the lock nut and rotating the mount a little.JV
Paul Oggelsby
Thanks for that, I'll check the supply.I'd read about the new style sensor but I don't think it is, I'll take a photo and share it. I have pulled it out to about 3mm to try and see the light but no joy.
John Vine
If it's the old-style sensor, you should be able to see the LED no matter what gap you have. The bit that lights up is at the end where the cable enters. JV
ChrisC
The new smaller sensor does light up, but its not easy to see, its more of a glow around the wire going into the sensor. The new sensor has to be much closer to the trigger when than the old sensor.
Paul Oggelsby
Just to close this thread off. It was the sensor, it had been rubbing against the cog and had damaged it. Warranty claim with Caterham and they sent a new sensor which worked straight off. Problem solved.
John Vine
Thanks for reporting back. Glad it's fixed. JV
