Mr Spaceman
HiI am looking at getting a Rapfix QR just wondered how far out this comes from the dash - is it similar to fixed boss? Can anyone measure? Thanks
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted March 1, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted March 1, 2019 I don’t have a rapfix but you are correct it does stick out further from the dash. I think by about an inch but no doubt someone with a rapfix will be along soon to confirm.
Petethediesel
From the dashboard to the back of the steering wheel (back as in nearest the dash) its near enough 90mm. Very nice to use it is too.
Mr Spaceman
Hi Guys cheersThe current fixed boss is just over 50mm so its quite a difference.....is that the same with most QR?Anybody have other options rather than the Rapfix? Thanks
Area Representative Richard Price Posted March 2, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted March 2, 2019 The back of my wheel to the edge of the dash with my Rapfix, is about 70mm.I shortened the back of the spigot significantly before welding it to the upper column.I'd become frustrated with the Caterham supplied QR's having backlash in them (having had two in ten years). My Rapfix is now 6 years old, and I'm still happy with it.From memory, its possible to get the wheel closer to the dash with a Lifeline, SPA, or RaceTech QR boss than the RapFix, but, other than size, the Rapfix is better all round. rj
Richard,You say "other than size"What about weight? Is it heavy as a rock? You know I'm a little pendantic.
ScottR400D
Having used the regular Lifeline type QR adaptors, and being well aware of the criticism of them, I have always find that keeping them greased from day one keeps them in good order. Mr Spaceman
HiRichard, thanks for measuring 70mm I could handle.Scott, how far out does the Lifeline Qr come out? Thanks,Paul
ScottR400D
Not sure exactly which measurement you want but, with no wheel on, the end of the splined column is 65mm from the dash. With the wheel fitted, the FRONT face of the Momo wheel is 80mm from the dash. So the adaptor adds about 8/10mm to the distance which seem right as the column goes well into the adaptor.
