will_2111
Hi guys,I've got some 15" 9 spoke alloys with 195x45 R15 size CR500 tyres on.My sump is only about 50mm clear from the ground, so i'd like some larger tyres to run.Can anyone recommend what size to get that will help me raise the sump another 20-25mm or so?Many thanks,Will
Member Jonathan Kay Posted February 13, 2017 Member Share Posted February 13, 2017 Can you add a front-on low level photo to show the angle of the steering arms?Jonathan
John Vine
Do you have adjustable platforms on your dampers?(PS: I guess those wheels are 10-spoke rather than 9?)JV
will_2111
Hi Jonathan,I have one, but not sure how to add it to these forums.Basically, judging by the angle of the bottom arm, the body sits a tiny bit lower than horizontal.Hi John,I don't unfortunately, they aren't adjustable - and yes, they are 10 after counting...Cheers,Will

will_2111
By the way, in both of these photos i have the 16" wheels on for touring which are fine for sump clearance.
John Vine
I don't unfortunately, they aren't adjustableOK, just a thought, as a set would work out cheaper than new tyres, and you'd be able to get a flat-floor done as a bonus. They appear from time to time in the For Sale section.JV
SM25T
If you put taller profile 15" tyres on those rims, you risk contacting the cycle wing stays. Better to get adjustable height platform kit. Try places like Boss Racing, Sevens and Classics or Chapman Cars for second hand parts.
will_2111
These are the wheels i'm talking about... apologies for the confusion before. As you can see there is a fair gap between the wheel and the arch so i'd like to get some bigger tyres. What would you recommend? Thanks,Will
dave_h34
195/50 is a popular size, and I've seen a few decent tyres in 195/55 also. That would be approximately +10mm and +20mm respectively.
John Vine
A 55 profile will raise the car about 20mm (10% of 195 = 19.5), and a 60 profile will raise it about 30mm (15% of 195 = 29.5).I don't know of a 7-friendly tyre with those profiles, but I'm sure someone on here can advise.Btw, are you looking to sell the CR500s? Depending on wear and age, I could be interested.JV
dave_h34
There's a set of Billy's on Facebook, advertised in the last couple of days. It doesn't mention whether they're adjustable or not though.
will_2111
Hi John,If i find some suitable 55 profile tyres to replace, i will be selling the cr500's, yes. They are nearly new as well - you can still see the centre mould line.Hi Dave,I'd quite like the larger tyre for the difference in gearing also.Regards,Will
John Vine
Hi Wil,I could be interested. What are the date codes on the four tyres?JV
Ivaan
You can get a set of adjustable height sleeves to fit your existing shocks. They're fairly straight forward to fit and would work out cheaper than a new set of tyres. With a flat floor set up, I suspect the handling would also improve. You'll then have a full choice of wheel sizes / tyres.
will_2111
Hi John,I will have to get back to you on that one. John Vine
No rush re the tyres.Re sleeves, I think what Ivaan is suggesting is something like this.JV
