Markymark
sorry could not find the tany exact threads on the website so sorry if I am repeating a question - but here goes,Besides Caterham Crawley is there an alternative garage that will do the cambelt change. I am told the 150 has its own settings and adjustments and therefore more specialist - so I may have answered my own question!
colindavies56
Don't know about a garage local to you,but if you go on pistonheads, scroll to caterham and flick to page 5,some kind bloke has done a step by step.print it off.
Markymark
Thanks for the steer. I will certainly read - and possibly pluck up some courage!
elie boone
Mark everything carefully, including the belt itself, and transfer the marks on the new belt and it should be fine.
SKC
Hi Markymark,We charge £200 inc vat, inc the belt and bolts required. The cam timing needs to be measured accurately before dis-assembly and then checking after the belt and bolts have been changed.Customers are can stay and watch us do this and those that have, have commented that they are glad they haven't attempted this themselves. There are a lot of experts on here who I don't think have the kit to set this up as required. Because cam pullies and crank sprockets aren't doweled on or keywayed, this means measurements need to be taken before bolts are removed and re-torqued.We normally offer to do this job on a Saturday morning, it takes about 4 hours to do.RegardsSKC. Bone Rat
Sorry to hijack this thread but I find myself in similar circumstances, I also have a 6 year old Sigma 150 & need to get the belt done. Does anyone know of any people in the South East Wales area who are familiar with the settings & process for this odd engine. Not keen on doing it myself, other bits yes but i'm sure I could really mess it up...Andy
Markymark
HI sorry for the very late response! Would seem a good idea to do this with an MOT and a main service. What sort of total cost would this be/MOT due 3rd week of March
cr500dom
Or Cut halfway through the old belt, fit the new belt, then cut the rest of the old one off.Nothing moves then and you dont need to know the cam timing settings.
SKC
Hi cr500dom,Great idea ......but you can't do this on the Sigma. Neither the cam sprockets, crank damper pulley or crank sprocket are doweled or key wayed onto the shafts. As soon as you undo the crank damper pulley bolt, the crank can turn, or the crank sprocket can turn. The damper pulley needs to be removed to remove the lower belt cover to get access to the belt.We always measure cam timing before and after the belt has been replaced and sprocket retaining bolts have been tightened to ensure it back as it was.SKC. Markymark
Just Got back to this. Had the work and a major service done by Andy at Tech 7 - I cannot recommend enough. Cambelt done but has set up the throttle bodies brilliantly. Smooth acceleration and great soundtrack.
