myothercarsa2cv
Driving along last night, I heard an intermittent squeak from what appeared to be the NSR wheel. When I applied the brakes, it seemed to stop, release the brakes and it started up again. Should I be looking at bearings, or brakes? Haven't had a chance to do the 6-12 test yet but it's on the list.
Stationary M25 Traveller
Shouldn't be rear bearings with such a low mileage. I would look at brake pads, perhaps file a chamfer on the leading edge and spread some fresh CopaSlip on the back of the pad backplate. I have a windback tool if you need it ! myothercarsa2cv
Cheers Ian. Will take a look I can't remember, but I have to take the calipers off to do that, don't I?
Martin J
I plan to renew my brakes before long. (All original & 23k miles) If like me you have the standard non vented discs they are really cheap. Steve found a supplier on the web for £10 a disc (or rotor for our american readers *wink*)
Stationary M25 Traveller
You only remove part of the caliper. Easy enough job.
myothercarsa2cv
Quoting Stationary M25 Traveller: You only remove part of the caliper. Easy enough job.Nothing is easy for the missing link over here Martin, let me know where that is - new discs might be on the cards as well, just not sure the M1144s are working as well as they should on the old discs? Probably worth the £20 just to check. Edited by - myothercarsa2cv on 8 Jul 2013 16:55:
Mankee
El cheapo discs here: http://www.jamespaddock.co.uk/parts.aspx?searchtext=208715 You can rub the discs down with wet and dry to get some of the old pad material off.
steve m
James Paddock is where I got my new discs from, I figured for £12 inc vat each it wasn't worth cleaning up my old discs, which weren't particularly worn just quite rusty
OliverSedlacek
Shagged bearings don't squeak, they rumble. Must be brakes.
