  1. Glad the site is still of some use! Haven't touched it in ages... got so many writeups to do!
  2. Hey guys, I can still post! I think my membership lapses tomorrow so good timing. DRE are super easy to run a bulk buy through - they're happy for you to supply the names/handles/email addresses and for each person to just get in touch and pay individually, so no buying a pile of them and then chasing everyone for payment and posting them out yourself. Drop them a note and they'll do something for you I'm sure. In fact, put me down for another one as a friend's race car needs one :) (John Birrell, myothercarsa2cv, moca2cv@gmail.com)
  3. Well Jack found me a 1000:1 geared motor for a fiver, which looks like it will do the trick! Let's see...! Thanks all for the input, been an education and the POBC is always a marvel!
  4. Hi Jack, Thanks! I've already reduced the number of batteries down from 5 to 2, going to down to one and nothing works. Not sure why! That's very kind, and would be very useful! I'll drop you a PM and I'll see if I can get it working that way! cheers, John
  5. Thanks Steve! How does it wire in? Does it just sit between the PCB and the motor?
  6. Cheers guys. Basically have zero budget for this build so a £5 RC car was bought! I assume it's brushed? Looks like a Scalectrix motor. Will look into those options, tried dropping down to two AAAs instead of 5 AAs, this has made a difference, tried 1 AAA and that didn't work at all. I wonder if there's a minimum voltage to prevent complete discharge of batteries?
  7. Odd request, but you guys know everything! What's the best way to make an RC car motor slooooooow? I am working on a fun project: making an exorcist kid mannequin. I've butchered the RC car, got all the bits, and am almost ready to mount the motor in the body, but one thing I didn't factor in was just how fast these motors spin! Any ideas? The freer the better ;) I tried a resistor from the LED circuit (red red black gold, 22ohm?) in line with the motor and there was no movement... Could diodes be the answer?
  8. Great stuff all round. They are starting to arrive in peoples' letterboxes I am told, so expect them soon! Always a good result. Thinking about it, Jason at DRE must have sold a good 100 units to the L7C over the years... Soon it will be the industry standard shift light! :P
  9. Nice one all. JonL and Craig2003 - can you just confirm with Jason your colour choice and username please? Thanks!
  10. Ok chaps. Here's the instructions. 1. PayPal your £67.10 to sales@digitalrace.co.uk 2. Add a note to the transaction or email jason@digitalrace.co.uk your: name postal address preference for light colours (standard is green green amber amber red) PayPal email address if different your forum handle so he can tick you off the list.3. Sit on your hands. Try not to get too antsy. Jason is very busy at the moment so it might take a little longer than a few days, but If you want them quickly tell me and I'll let him know to prioritise you once he receives your payment.
  11. Hi guys, have added you to the list. We are now more than 15 so have reached the next discount band! I will be closing the BB on Friday, so last chance to get an order in!
  12. Hi John, in all honesty... Probably not much use to you. I had mine set up to come on about 5k rpm, and hit the red at 7k, so quite a broad band that suited me. I liked having the lights flash in the corner of my eye to tell me what I'm doing, but that's me.
  13. Thanks for the kind offer, Dr Slotter. I'll put you down and will let you know if we need your help with postage.
  14. I agree Tom, the wires are a bit skinny. I chopped the tacho wires and rejoined them and poked the DRE wires in with the tacho wire, so less of an issue with the crimping. Next time I think I'll splice in a proper three way connector, with tacho wires going to one side and DRE the other. That way it's fully reversable with not much effort.
  15. Nice one Marcus and Jon, added to the list!
  16. I sold mine after losing the 7... Wish I hadn't! Ian, do you have a picture of your install? Sounds much neater than how I did mine all those years ago!
  17. Thanks guys. No bites on a previously ridiculously popular bulk buy was a bit odd so off to TT I went. Anyway, Mucus72, you're in, I'll be back with details about payment etc. once I've confirmed numbers and closed the bulk buy. Probably end of next week.
  18. These little widgets are so good all cars should come with them as standard. Anyway, I'm organising a bulk buy for my hairdressers club so if anyone fancies latching on to it, let me know. There's a post in the Bulk Buy section here: http://www.lotus7.club/forum/bulk-buys/dre-shift-lights Ta!
  19. Some years ago, Martin kindly organised a bulk buy of these amazing little shift lights. After my 7 was written off, I had no need for mine any more and sold it on. Now I want one again (but for my hairdresser's car). If we get to 29 I'll make it 30 by getting 2 and putting it on the 2CV. Anyway, DRE have said we can get another deal on a bulk buy, I still need to confirm that they will allow us to specify what lights we want (they did last time) and also whether it's ok for everyone to just call up and pay if I let them know who's in, but for now, if you'd like one put your name down here and I'll take it from there. I've got 5 others already interested, so we're already up to a tenner off. They are super easy to install on a newish 7 with standard gauges, I managed it! I wrote about it here. A search will reveal lots of information as well. Details: SLD5 Sequential shift light system 1 to 4 units at £79.95 each 5 to 14 units at £69.95 each 15 to 29 units at £65.00 each 30+ off at £60.00 each If ordering over 5 units, they will not charge for carriage provided all the units are going to one address, if sent directly to the customer, then the postage will be £2.10 1st class signed for service. More info here: www.caraddiction.co.uk/sld5.htm
  20. Tuesday just gone. SWMBO wasn't sure if it was a Caterham but it was a 7. In case it is anyone on here, she thought your overtake was a bit ill-judged. Please take care :)
  21. You could swap to a twin MC and balance bar setup as well. More complicated but more opportunity for fine tuning and loads of bore sizes to choose from.
  22. Try Mannie at Bristol 2CVs. I used him whilst at uni there. That was a while ago, mind, so not sure if he's still an MOT centre... So you know, he doesn't just do 2CVs ;) Hampton Road, just down from the top of Cotham Hill.
  23. Or... Get a PRRT stat. No more airlocks and a very efficient system, as devised by Land Rover.
